Interesting factoid about the Ebola virus, it wasnt really that close to Ebola river..

From Wiki

And for info about China's Wet Markets, it was originally for the poor but it evolved as many things do, to just the rich.. Vox have a good video on it.

]

What the Senator said about China wasnt wrong but the way the Republicans are banging on the drum about it, is kinda racist which will harm many chinese americans in the future.

Wonder what's the most posted thing in this thread, that video or the tweet about the mathematical basis of the UK government's CoronaPlan... :D

Spanish Flu didn't originate in Spain. Most likely Kansas, USA (depending on who you believe). The only reason why it was called Spanish Flu was because Spain was the only country to accurately report the carnage. The other countries (including the USA) where it most likely originated from were too busy engaging in war propaganda to accurately report the real origins and death tolls.

Ask yourself this: Do you think the US would be fine with calling a deadly virus that originated form the US the "American Virus"?

I really wish people would fall for obvious state-sponsored xenophobia.
The German measles isn't something that originated from Germany either it was first described and discovered by three Germans and there from came the name. What the USA is doing is by any standard shitty and a dick move.. It's a virus first discovered in China a large and heavily populated country, unlike the Americans running that country that virus doesn't give one toss about our origins or ethnicity it just likes to procreate in humans.

My dislike for the American regime grows from day to day Trump is an absolute tool that spreads bullshit and bad behaviour everywhere he goes. His reactions or lack thereof towards this threat is what will hopefully cost him his second term.

The corruption in American politics would make even the most corrupt African governments blush.

Unfortunately the two fighters of corruption look like not making it to nomination. Huge sigh of relieve from establishment and Wall St when Biden looked like being the nominee.

This is how Trump works. When it was of no threat to his electoral prospects.

Now, it's the "Chinese virus".

Funny thing is that the Americans can't say that they don't know.. Africans sadly in most cases just don't know better.

Trump is what he is. What annoys me most is the GOP continues to back him, no matter what, so there's no chance of kicking him out.

Four more GOP Senators have been called out on this.
Predictably however - it seems the media is spurring on the internet to focus its energy on Burr. Burr hasn't always been a big fan of Trump so the fact the likes of Tucker Carlson are also calling for his resignation alone has some ulterior motives attached - at least that seems a logical conclusion to draw.

ALL Senators who did this should be mentioned by name and grilled for it. Not just Burr.

I see you haven't addressed Japanese Encephalitis or German measles, what about MERS, West Nile Virus, Zika, Ebola?

Personally I think it should be called Wuhan virus, likes SARS should have been the Guangzhou virus.

Do you realize how outdated your argument is? A few years...

You're basically arguing that because something has always been done, it should continue to be done, without putting a single extra critical thought into it. Just think about that for a second and how that line of (non)thought has been used throughout the centuries in other issues.

This is from 2015:
In recent years, several new human infectious diseases have emerged. The use of names such as ‘swine flu’ and ‘Middle East Respiratory Syndrome’ has had unintended negative impacts by stigmatizing certain communities or economic sectors,” says Dr Keiji Fukuda, Assistant Director-General for Health Security, WHO. “This may seem like a trivial issue to some, but disease names really do matter to the people who are directly affected. We’ve seen certain disease names provoke a backlash against members of particular religious or ethnic communities, create unjustified barriers to travel, commerce and trade, and trigger needless slaughtering of food animals. This can have serious consequences for peoples’ lives and livelihoods.”

It's a softball question that literally every president is asked in a time of crisis. How the feck did we elect this buffoon.

It shows his true colours when a question that requires just a tiny piece of humanity to answer seems out of his range so he has to resort to bullying tactics.

Seriously, any normal person would be able to say "stay strong" or "we're all in this together". Sure, it's just a useless sound bite but he's not even capable of that. Jackass.

Yeah but the journo didn't have the balls to stand up for himself and I'll bet none of his colleagues did either.

feck the US media.

Sometimes think the good standard Americans respect the office too much. Don't think that will be the case once Trump leaves!

It's clear he took issue with the journalist mentioning the numbers, and he was so focused on the numbers that he didn't even listen to the softball question afterward. Sad thing is he has a very real chance of getting re-elected.

This. None of them backed him up and asked the same question again. Mind you, this isn't the first time he has disrespected the press.. If they had an ounce of professionalism/ integrity, they would have just blacked him out. Nah, but they need the soundbites from him.

If that was a big issue, why didn't they change the old names?

He was told how serious it was and the profound impact it would have on both public health and the economy. His response to that news was not to advise the public to prepare themselves accordingly or even to hold his counsel but instead to propagate lies about it not being a big deal which has clearly contributed to the public’s nonchalant attitude to the virus. Its hard to argue that his motive was anything other than personal gain.

Are we talking about Trump or Burr ? If its Burr then I don't see it being illegal, although definitely unethical.

Burr. There’s been plenty of suggestions that he’s violated the 2012 STOCK Act (that he voted down)

Politicians routinely get around this by claiming their portfolios are managed by 3rd parties who make the decisions. So unless Burr and the others implicated are actually found to have contacted their portfolio managers to specifically tell them to sell stock, then I don't think much will come of this.

An investigation is certain IMO. Sounds like both sides of the aisle are keen to attack him.

He's officially lost it.

Honestly i detest Trump as much as the next guy but he's not wrong here, alright he's doing it in a very Trumpy way but the US media are out of control and it's the same in the UK, it's all mass media hysteria and they are loving stoking the flames of people mass panicking... luckily my state don't really buy into it all that much.

You constantly hear about the deaths but absolutely nothing about recovery rates which stands at 97% or so, you're not hearing much about successful drug trials or China managing to get this under control, nope..so as bad as a job Trump has done so far he's rightly calling out the media, i kinda wish he wouldnt doit in such a baby way but whathaveyou.

It also should be noted that the UK are well behind in the US's response to the Pandemic and least Trump is fast tracking (3 weeks for a cheque probably not that fast) money to every American under $75k a year, i can actually see why he has a highish approval rate here - forgrtting the facts that he lied, fired the CDC response team, knew about the failings to handle a pandemic since he first started his Presidency...

We have him for another 4 years if you like it or not as now you'll have him against fecking Biden in the Election, good lord.
