The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Wish there was a tweet alert notification for this thread like we have for the transfer thread :D

Was out of here for a weekend and had so much catching up

One president gives Sputnik (and RT?) accreditation for WH briefings.

Another one says this:

It was awkward and funny at the same. Putin wasn't comfortable.
It was. :D I have to say that Macron looks on all these public events that get international attention so much at ease in his role (not just today) that it's hard to tell he's a newbie. A good blend of focus, composure and coolness.

A bit more from Merkel on her now famous beer tent rally comment: She clarified today* that 'we' (as in German govemment) remain convinced Atlanticists but really have to take our destiny into our own hands.

This is interpreted as distancing herself / Germany from the Trump administration but not from America per se.

* She held a speech somewhere, didn't seem to be a campaign rally to me but another event.

You know why she said that? Because she is an intelligent, sensible, experienced and pragmatic woman. She isn't throwing her toys out of the pram, more moving them safely in to a corner where she can keep an eye on them and will let others play with them if they are mature enough to respect and play with them properly. To be fair to her that is what most, if not all other foreign leaders should be saying and doing. Treating Trump and the USA in the as two separate entities and not completely cutting ties, but making it known it's Trump that is causing the problem.

Obviously this is completely unlike the Saudi's who will deal with anyone, hence their desperate and shameless pandering to Trump when he visited. Unfortunately it appears Theresa May will be more like the Saudi's than Merkel and that infuriates me more than I can say. Fecking Brexit, if we hadn't voted to leave the EU then maybe our leader wouldn't feel she needs to suck up to Trump rather than treat him how he deserves.

In fairness to May, the UK need someone as a powerful ally after the Brexit crap. So I can understand the PM sucking up to a con man in Trump. I presume most of Europe is appalled at the UK though I could be wrong.

The Saudis only cover the US money and military might as they continue to push their agenda (and fund terrorism).

Yeah, that's exactly what I said, but it doesn't excuse it to be honest, and it really Is costing her votes. If it's enough to cost her the election we will have to wait and see, unfortunately I doubt it, but I didn't think we would vote to leave the EU. Saying that though, the signs were there for the EU vote, I don't think they are for the election.

Back on Trump though, he has shown he has no loyalty to anyone except possibly Russia. For a man who commands unwavering loyalty from his friends, business partners and employees, he sure as hell doesn't live by those standards himself or repay others with the same as he demands from them. Yet another one to be added to the growing list of faults and undesirable personality traits Trump has.

Der Spiegel have fought many political battles ever since they were founded, but since his inauguration, they are particularly sharp on Twitler. :D

It's become my favourite read since the start of all this. :D Probably the only one that really says it how it sees it. Or has the balls to say it how everyone sees it.

I see. :D The editorial you posted is from the editor-in-chief Klaus Brinkbäumer. Just in case you don't know and are interested, their chief correspondent from the US is Matthieu von Rohr. I don't follow him but I know he's active on twitter.

Thank you, greatly appreciated.

:lol::lol: The golden shower struck again! Well, almost.

During a studio interview after completing the Library of Congress portrait, the artist spoke about the challenges of painting Donald Trump. “The man is the most fidgety subject I’ve ever tried to paint. I’ve had 3-year-olds sitting for me who had more patience, self-control, and maturity than Trump.

“At one point, he started playing with his cowlick and my hair person needed an hour to get it back in place. Another time, when I begged him to sit still, he actually urinated in his suit pants, then blamed me, ‘You artsy-fartsy bitch,’ he yelled, ‘how can you expect me to sit for four minutes straight without moving!? Now look at what you made me do.’ Honestly, no goddamn way would I ever be in the same room with that juvenile man-boy again. I’d have better luck getting Speedy Gonzalez to hold still.”

While the president remains silent regarding the deaths of two brave Americans who stood up against verbal abuse from an alt-right guy, the 'other America' raises money for the families of the victims.

Just read about it. R.I.P. brave young men :(

upps... what is that...

...sometimes he still can suprise...

Probbaly not him. There must be a reason that he used the president account and not his actual account. Maybe its because less of his base follow his presidential account.

From three days ago but still of interest. #MGSGA !

Is that campaign talks or something changed?

Is that campaign talks or something changed?

Germany (not just Merkel), France and the rest of Europe (not including the U.K.) seem to think in that direction, but I will be glad to hear others' opinions here.

Those subtitles really fecked me up, I know my German is rusty but a native German speaker back me up here, they were at best a paraphrase of what he was saying right?
No, it was a pretty good verbatim translation, just way out of sync. The subtitles were far ahead of what Schulz was saying at the time.

Yeah the subtitles are a little messed up. He's basically saying that no freely elected representative of any nation needs to accept Trumps attempt to humiliate them in the manor that he attempted to humiliate Merkel. (And that he says so despite currently running to replace her).

Not sure what he is referring to though, haven't been up to date with the news the last couple of days.

I think that is something all the big German parties are united in.

Of the other countries - who knows what all the newer EU countries like Hungary etc. think. But I think that the old European countries are pretty much on sync in that.

The captions just weren't timed properly. He seemed to speak a couple of seconds ahead of what was captioned.

Yeah it was the timing. My brain couldn't cope with reading what I was about to hear, then hearing it whilst I was reading something different. Threw me right off.
