The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Lot's of mistakes were made by the media and by the Democrats and they both have to work damn hard to sort those problems out. BUT! The media can hold a trial for itself and rectify everything they did wrong and it still wont make an ounce of difference if masses of people still get their news and information from fecking facebook or Alex Jones's website or Faux News. Ironically! this is where the President elects new libel laws (like the UK has) that he keeps banging on about would actually come back and bite him in the arse. Now I'm not saying I agree with them because I don't, BUT! when he says he could sue for papers making stuff up about him, well everything they said was pretty much true so he would look stupid and end up broke, but on top of that Channels like Faux News would be hauled over the coals for spreading out and out lies all the time. So after thinking about this the other night, I think he should knock himself out stroking and trying to protect and enlarge his ego, because like most things, It's clear it's something he really hasn't thought much about at all, and obviously nobody has put him straight either. Because he's a fecking buffoon.
Yes. And the alternative to him not having thought this through is that he is some sort of evil genius, who actually did think all of it through, and now has a plan once he really takes office (That he's just not revealing yet). Not much comfort in that thought either.

The problem with his proposed libel laws is that soon it will be him deciding what the truth is (Much as he's already done for his supporters during the campaign). Everybody's already talking about the "post-fact era", as if that wasn't an euphemism for "lies lies lies".

I see that the Mayors from Seattle, LA, New York and Chicago (DEM) will work against Trump's deportation policy.

IMO they should be charged with treason if they protect the illegals who are criminals, previously convicted or in the process of conviction or that come under future conviction. If they are just illegal immigrants then sure, protect away, but if they fall under the categories previously stated, feck no.

That wasn't a compliment. Just a reflection on his influence on the political system.

Oh I know, I just can't give credit for abusing something so deviously and basically conning people. I don't admire conmen, no matter how elaborate or clever, they are still tricksters and ultimately prey on the weak and stupid, I can't ever give credit to anyone who does that, nor will I ever respect them either.

Clearly anybody with morals is a traitor. Especially when they fail to predict the future.

Giving criminals that isnt citizens and that can be considered a threat against a nation and it's population isn't treason? That would even land you a solid sentence in liberal Norway, and we hardly have penalties.

The only upside to all this is during this international break I have barely thought about football once, I have been far too distracted with politics.

First time in years that I completely forgot that my NT had an important qualifying match and that I've barely even thought about an upcoming game against Arsenal.

He's not "right". He "may be right". He's right that he would have used a different strategy. I suspect he would have to have spent a lot more because remember Hillary would have gone in big in most states instead of wasting money with diminishing returns in swing states.

One thing I hope that comes out of this, for the DNC/Democrats is an increase in interest & activity in local politics..

I have no issue with the protesters, that's part of democracy. I actually commend them for it, I've been to a number of protests this year and it is so exhausting.

But where the Republicans made it so hard for Obama, the Democrats have to make it hard for Trump too, if not harder.
Challenge local political representatives, engage in events, join groups, find out when they're up for election etc. in my opinion the energy, and negativity of the election results should be put to use in that way.
Hopefully that would lead to more representative elected officials, and an overall increase in the electorate's political knowledge.

By all accounts, defining a fascist is actually quite tricky. Umberto Eco tried to come up with some criteria. Trump fulfils most of them.

That's a decent, if light account, but I'm happy to defer to Eco's experience. Still, it's hard to take seriously when the author can't disguise or willfully chooses to highlight their bias. And certainly a few points; 1, 7 & 9 could be applied to the Clinton campaign.

That being said, campaign politics and actual politics are two very different things. I find that most modern campaigns stateside employ fascist and totalitarian elements; the American regalia, the great leaders, etc. The campaigns recognize how these events help market their candidate to the masses. Sometimes, this distorts perception but it's undeniable that Trump utilized many elements of early 20th century political ideology to increase his appeal.

Now that we've landed on Trump, I'm waiting to see how he governs. I may or may not agree with the fascist assessment in the end.

 I was just planning to gently break it to you before I read the article. Is good though, just half hour ago I saw a tweet getting thousands of retweets saying a Trump supporting hispanic voter had "already been deported", which was obviously completely untrue.

Obama's revenge.

I saw a documentary on her work a few years ago and randomly started wondering what she was up to a few days ago. Strange that her name has now popped up.
Thought she's very highly thought of?

I thought she was decent. She's married to our mayor, Kevin Johnson, who has slunk out of the political arena because of a sex scandal.

Not sure what the right thread for it is, but fake news sites (like the Macedonian ones aimed at right wingers) will soon be cut off from google ad money. I think it's only going to cut off resources from progandized fake news, as opposed to satirical fake news sites.

I can't stand the fake news sites, but the people who believe them are worse.

"Thief...usurer...merchant of flesh...."
"OK, that's our Secretary of State sorted; what about our Press Officer?"

About 12 months too late, but better than never. Will be interesting to see how all the feckkers deal with it. Facebook is doing the same. Obviously carries the risk of Google and Facebook deciding what's "real", but seeing that only minions are on FB and Google only does good, i'm ok with it.

I was thinking about all the wailing and teeth-gnashing that has been going on because everybody thinks we're heading toward oblivion. Imagine what it was like in 1968 when libs had lost JFK a few years earlier, then MLK was assassinated and a few months later they lost their champion RFK to a bullet. Now that must be what true despair was like when you lost so much hope and had Richard Nixon as a shoe-in for POTUS.

In fairness I think he also played a major role in breaking the back of the New York mafia in the 1980s through pioneering the use of the RICO act - ultimately he got the top brass of the five families locked up and the mob hasn't been the same since.

This is correct. I wouldn't say he pioneered the use of the RICO act, but it can be argued that no federal prosecutor used the RICO statutes better. He punitively squeezed the feck out of the 5 families (barring the Bonanno family who avoided prosecution because they were shut out of the Commission post Donnie Brasco...)

No.

1. Treason has a specific, narrow definition in the United States Constitution:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court

2. There is plenty of precedent in local/state law enforcement agencies not cooperating with Federal law enforcement. It's the reason why states are "allowed" to legalize marijuana. It is still illegal under federal law, which means the DEA can bust into a Denver suburb and make arrests at any time. They probably won't be accompanyed by local/state law enforcement unless other local/state laws have been violated. That limits the effectiveness of federal law enforcement.

Now regarding immigration, the Arizona law allowing local/state police to check immigration status of people pulled over for traffic infractions, was deemed unconstitutional by a federal court, on the basis that immigration enforcement is a federal right ceded by the states under the Constitution. Doesn't mean that states can't assist. They just don't have to. And cities like NYC, LA and Chicago have decided not to, which is perfectly legal. Trump has threatened to withhold federal funding from said cities, but that may encounter challenges in court depending on how punitive the cuts are. Not to mention that city legal systems are already at straining point dealing with other crime.

All cabinet positions (bar the Chief of Staff) require confirmation by Congress. Hopefully these issues with Giuliani and others will be highlighted by remaining Democrats and moderate Republicans in Congress.

Yup. You did. So a big feck off on your face

Don't get personal, Billy. :D

You'll notice that I didn't comment on your name..

In the spirit of The Donald, I'm extending the hand of friendship. Where there is discord, let us bring unity.

The longest journey must be undertaken one step at a time. You go ahead, I'll catch up. If you meet a Wall along the way, or a big fence, just climb over. Don't worry, it's not electrocuted. I'm practically sure..

Rand Paul apparently isn't keen on Giuliani or Bolton, so only a couple more potentially needed.
