The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Seriously, dude. I like the way you're always positive about United. Even when everyone else (including me) is losing their shit. Reading your posts can help keep the despair at bay. But now I realise the full extent of your eternal optimism.

Sometimes managers like Moyes and Van Gaal really are as horribly out of their depth as people say they are. No matter how badly we want things to work out. I'd be absolutely amazed if the same isn't true of Trump.

Some more from gracious Ann

1.) “There’s a cultural acceptance of child rape in Latino culture that doesn’t exist in even the most dysfunctional American ghettos. When it comes to child rape, the whole family gets involved.”

2.) “A lot of people are upset when I talk about Mexican child rapes, Muslims clitorectomies, Muslim honor killings…white people don’t do that. America is not used to these types of crimes. We are bringing in cultures where child rape is very common.”

3.) “These unaccompanied children (anchor babies) we [America] have, you know, hundreds of these [immigrants] being reported they have never seen a flushed toilet before. It is simply a fact; we are bringing in peasant cultures.”

4.) “If we don’t cut off bringing in millions and millions of these very backward cultures, we won’t have America again.”

5.) “I’ve never understood the argument ‘we’re going to war for oil.’ We need oil. Why shouldn’t we go to war for oil, we need it…drop a nuc, daisy cutter, it doesn’t matter.”

6.) “If we took away women’s right to vote, we’d never have to worry about another democrat president. It’s kind of a pipe dream. It’s a personal fantasy of mine.”

7.) “It’s going to be a thousand years of darkness if this country stops being this country and we just become a second Mexico, which is where we’re heading right now.

8.) “In 1960 whites were 90% of the country. The census bureau recently estimated that whites already account for less than two-thirds of the population and will be a minority by 2050. Other estimates put that day much sooner. One may assume the new majority will not be such compassionate overlords as the white majority has been.”

9.) “This is a country created by white people…I am a Native because I am a descendant from settlers.”

10.) “30% of them [pre-19th century immigrants] used to go home, now they go on welfare…collecting government assistance: foodstamps, housing aid, schooling.”

My views on Trump and United are completely separate. I just don't get the hysterical negativity that we've seen in recent days. The guy won a free and fair election by the rules that were previously agreed to and is now barely beginning to construct his government. If most of the protestors on the street had channeled their passion into political mobilization during the election, then Hillary would've probably won.

So in a nutshell, I'm not being delusionally optimistic. Others are being hysterically negative. Let's give him a chance to govern before forming an opinion on how he is governing.

The "hysterical negativity" isn't the knee-jerk response you're implying. It's a rational response to a horrific outcome that people have been pondering for months. What does seem to be knee-jerk is the haste by which so many people are trying to convince themselves Trump will be a good president, since he won the election.

Put(t)ing that kind of people at key governmental positions is really a ideological dream for the very same radical elements they are scaring the nation with.

Wasnt it the Bush administration and the Republican party that crippled the US economy, and "policed the world" (read invaded countries and waged wars for no legitimate reason whatsoever)?
Democrats sold out to the moneyed elite and have been doing the same things, while maintaining their public position as the party of the working class, tolerance and inclusion, making them the official fraud party

Its pretty broadly subjective what makes a good or bad President since people nearly always judge based on their political views. He hasn't been sworn in yet, nor has he implemented any policies. If anything, it appears he is stepping back from various harsh policies he proposed when he was running (Obamacare, Build the Wall, Mass Deportation, Muslim ban etc) We don't know if these policies will ever get implemented, so why not wait and see before framing this as a horrific outcome.

Do you think he's wrong? I mean it probably doesn't help, but I don't think he's wrong.

He's not entirely wrong that there is a degree of homogenous nostalgia driving the Trump phenomenon, but calling it a whitelash only stirs the pot further at a time when people need to be promoting a bit more calm.

Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. And the worst could be pretty fecking bad.

Seriously, liberals in America should immediately begin planning how to defend independent institutions, equal rights, free speech and democratic norms in case they come under sustained attack. Whether you think it's likely to happen, or a remote possibility, it's a real possibility worth preparing for either way.

Underestimate your opponent and the forces of hate and division at your peril.

I'm sure the liberals in America are already plotting how to deal with Trump, both from now until the mid terms, and leading up to the 2020 elections.

I'm sure Bannon will be an advisor and Priebus will be the CoS, which is the most important job in the White House other than President. I reckon KellyAnne will get some sort of press secretary type job or the like.

Why the hell does Trump still care so much about what the media are saying? He's about to become the President ffs. He won. The media played right into his hands and he won. It makes so sense why he'd still be so hung up on what they have to say, I can only put it down to insecurity on his part.

In terms of his presidency in general, I think he'll (thankfully) fail to do most of the things that he said he'd do and lose the vote of many republicans as a result. At the same time, he won't do anywhere near enough to win over people who voted Hillary, so I think he's destined to last the 4 years.

Because hes a massive narcissist with an incredibly inflated ego?

Comments from people who has been close to him, not to mention his campaign, proves hes a fecking child whenever he gets challenged or spoken against. In the position hes been in hes been able to shit all over people all his life and pretty much get away with it. Any backlash would be minimal because he was just a rich arse that nobody really took seriously

Now on the other hand hes the fecking president. Of course the cronies he has appointed for cabinet and his most brain dead supporters won't criticize him, but the liberal media will be all over him and i suspect good old Donald won't be to happy about that

Is Gingrich going to be secretary of state? I don't mind him that much.

Also, who is favorite for attorney general? I hope it is Chris Christie, not Rudy Guliani.

I'm hearing Gingrich, Giuliani, Bolton, Haas, Corker, and Khalilzad are being considered.

For AG, I would imagine the job would be Giuliani's if he wanted it.

Strange days have come when i'm hoping that Newt Gingrich, Reince Priebus and Chris Christie get the important roles

Anyone but Bolton, please. My favorite is Gingrich though, hoped that he would get the nomination last time around (although, I hoped that Obama defeats anyone that Republicans put). I would be quite happy with Corker too.

I don't like Giuliani at all, while I am quite indifferent (for a Republican) about Christie. With the latest scandal though, he's not going to get it.

Kasich's campaign strategist.

There will be a lot of pressure on Trump to ditch Bannon....much as he did with Mannafort once his Russia ties became public. In Bannon's case it is race baiting and anti-semitism at Breitbart and before.

I can see Trump holding Bannon in suspense until he's actually inaugurated. He won't alienate the alt-right while the left is still in the streets against him.

This is the sort of nonsense that needs to be done away with - Republicans (Mary Matalin) accusing Democrats (Van Jones) of being racial polemicists and Democrats (Van Jones) referring to the election as a Whitelash.

Van Jones is pathetic, instead of looking at the real economic reasons people rebuked the establishment he's giving cover for the racists and elitists in the democratic party to chug along with neoliberalism. There are racists in both parties, painting an entire group with the same brush because you lost, at a moment when political tensions are high, is disgusting.

I've fallen for at least two of these already.

Given how often he changes his mind, the last bit seems out of place.
He's just appointed an anti-semite as his chief strategist in the White Hosue, which doesn't exactly exactly bring confidence that he's going to be a north-eastern liberal.

It's hard to buy the anti-Semite business when Trump's own daughter and son in law are Jewish. In fact Kushner has played a lead behind the scenes role alongside Bannon.

While this is a reason you can't deny that many of his supporters are indeed racist. For those who are not, they chose to either ignore Trump's pandering to those groups.
