I think I'm using humour as a coping mechanism, is it healthy?
I think the stress will kill him or he'll step down over health concerns.

George Orwell: Nazi theory indeed specifically denies that such a thing as ‘the truth’ exists. There is, for instance, no such thing as ‘science’. There is only ‘German science’, ‘Jewish science’ etc. The implied objective of this line of thought is a nightmare world in which the Leader, or some ruling clique, controls not only the future but the past. If the Leader says of such and such an event, ‘It never happened’ — well, it never happened. If he says that two and two are five — well, two and two are five. This prospect frightens me much more than bombs — and after our experiences of the last few years that is not a frivolous statement.

Interesting read - it is about Orwell's 1984 and about the Nazi ideology. There is some quotes in that transcript that are worth reading...

Goes hand in hand with Spicer and Conway doesn't it? :nervous:

Yes - but I found some quotes in it that are interesting, too. Like e.g. this

It lies in the nature of an organisation that it can only exist if a broad mass, with a more emotional attitude, serves a high intellectual leadership. A company of two hundred men of equal intellectual ability would in the long run be harder to discipline than a company of a hundred and ninety intellectually less capable men and ten with higher education. [...] They [the political parties of the middle-class as opposed to the Communist and the Nazi Party, M. R.] never understood that the strength of a political party lies by no means in the greatest possible independent intellect of the individual members, but rather in the disciplined obedience with which its members follow the intellectual leadership (Hitler, 415)

.......................

As we see you can subsidize the phrase "intellectual leadership" just with "leadership"...

I genuinely thought Trump would start to mellow a little after becoming President. How wrong I was - not even halfway through his first week and he is at war with the media and seems to be literally trying to turn the country into some sort of North Korea where the great supreme leader has full control over everything.

Likewise. He has landed a pretty sweet gig, I'd just coast along totally uneventful and enjoy the ride.

Trump has displayed the same personality traits for decades, he was never going to change on winning. On the contrary, he sees winning as a validation of them.

Protests got a bit tainted by those immense bellends from "No Borders" tearing shit up.

Also plays right into Trump's tiny hands.

We all hoped Trump would in some way would become more presidential once his White House administration got underway. Turns out his White House administration would become more Trumpy as soon as it got underway.

That's exactly right. I reiterate that I can only hope that the public, the media, the intelligence services and respected members of the Government will stand up and fight this. He's just a giant bully, and he's bullying everyone from the media to the electorate, when he flat out lies the media needs to show his lies and show the truth alongside it and they need to show it 24/7 until it sinks in. He also needs to be called out by as many respected people as possible. I can't understand how he can be allowed to turn a reasonably well educated and civilised country in to something that more resembles an African Banana Republic. He's actually making the President of Ghana look respectable

#spicefacts is now trending. That's what the White House has been turned into...a joke.

I've spent a disproportionate amount of time browsing this thread of late in the hope that it would throw up some good comedy during and after the inauguration. He hasn't disappointed.

McCain and Graham will vote for Tillerson

"After careful consideration, and much discussion with Mr. Tillerson, we have decided to support his nomination to be Secretary of State. Though we still have concerns about his past dealings with the Russian government and President Vladimir Putin, we believe that Mr. Tillerson can be an effective advocate for U.S. interests.

"Now more than ever, with America's friends growing more discouraged and our enemies growing more emboldened, we need a Secretary of State who recognizes that our nation cannot succeed in the world by itself. We must strengthen our alliances and partnerships across the globe, and marshal them to defend our shared vision of world order. It is the American people more than anyone else who have benefited from this long tradition of U.S. global leadership. The views that Mr. Tillerson has expressed, both privately and publicly during the confirmation process, give us confidence that he will be a champion for a strong and engaged role for America in the world."

This is the begging of North Korea.

Trust the government, don't trust the media.

The media has to then favour the government and all of a sudden either they do that and report only what the government tell them, or the government creates their own media agencies.

Obvisouly this is miles away, but scary to think this is a possibility (how ever small that possibility is).

Because it takes away some legitimacy from the protests and shifts the focus.
But it didn't in this case(Not to mention when have the media been in favour of mass protests). Protests during inauguration day where pretty much all about anti trump rhetoric and open borders, the smashing of a starbucks and burning of a limbo was hardly going against the message of the day. Most of the news on internet was about how The Nazi/white supremacist cnut Richard Spencer got punched in the head.

The main protest - the Women's March happened a day later and rightfully took up all the headlines. If it had happened during the Women's March than I might agree but it luckily it didn't.

Well, for eight years the American media has been Obamamedia, so the principle has been established.

Wait until he tries to start bringing in media regulations
