The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Even some semi tin-pot dictatorships have an independent justice department. America is fecked.

This, I used to have the notions that if everything fecked up the Justice System of America is uncorrupted.

I guess I watch too much Hollywood
It's insane that they allowed a President to pick an AG that would interfere in things personally pertaining to the President. It definitely violates the sentiment of the separations of powers.

Personally I just dont get why Barr is doing this. Does he exist to own the libs at his age? Is he not rich and comfortable already? His reputation is now in tatters, his name will be a synonym for corruption in the history books.

Also, Trump is going to now suppress Covid stats, and hope his people forget about it. It'll probably work.

Reading some of the Twitter responses to criticism of the Flynn backtrack has melted my brain. Kill us all Covid, kill us all.

So are you telling me all those Hollywood movies were off the mark?

I am amazed to see America struggling with this pandemic. Those movies often portray them as being decisive and competent in times of crisis, leading to them saving the whole of the human race from the likes of invading aliens, giant meteorites and even when the Earth's core was dying.

Trump is doing exactly that according to him. Gave birth, breast fed the United States and asked nothing in return

At least it brings more sense to things like The Walking Dead. You can now realistically imagine people protesting their right to go out and be bitten by zombies.

How can you pardon somebody who admitted lying to the WH and FBI??

He‘s not been pardoned. His case has been dropped. It absolutely stinks of Barr’s interference

To be fair, in those movies the government always seem to be a bunch of incompetent imbeciles, and the day is usually saved by some third party, not exactly affiliated with the government, doing what needed to be done, or convincing the people that needed to be convincing. The incompetence/ignorance they've shown is in keeping with what they're usually like in the movies.

Not in Independence Day it wasn't. Bill Pullman was a bonafide American hero in that. I love that movie btw, despite how cheesy it was.

Well yeah, that was an exception, and a great movie it was (Imagine Trump taking a fighter jet to go up against some aliens), but by and large the government are usually always a hindrance rather than a benefit. Look at every single transformers movie, the recent Godzilla movies, Pacific Rim etc, the government are always making things worse.

Three crucial decisions to be made from the Supreme court that will decide if we have a President or a king.

There's so much wrong with this I don't know where to begin:

Trump phoned-in to Fox & Friends today ~

'President Trump was asked about the country’s coronavirus crisis, which has killed more than 75,000 people in the US so far.

Trump led with: “Our country is going back to work, we are opening up. It’s a much smarter enemy [the virus] than the enemy we just talked about [a slew of Democrats, the Trump-Russia investigators and Trump’s first attorney general Jeff Sessions], much smarter. Those folks, they are not in the same league."

“We are doing really, really well.” He talks about ramped up production of ventilators and testing. “It’s been incredible.” He talks about the virus originating in China and infecting people in 184 countries. “Most people didn’t even know there are that many countries.”

Trump called attorney general Bill Barr “a man of unbelievable credibility and courage.”

The president then pivoted to: “I learned a lot from Richard Nixon, don’t fire people. I study history, and the firing of everybody, I should’ve in one way but I’m glad I didn’t because look at the way it worked out, they’re all a bunch of crooks, and they got caught.

“But I learned a lot by watching Richard Nixon. Of course there was one difference, one big difference, number one, he may have been guilty, and number two, he had tapes all over the place. I wasn’t guilty, I did nothing wrong and there were no tapes.”

The number of Americans who are infected with coronavirus, confirmed cases, has crossed the 1.25 million mark and the death toll is approaching 76,000 today. The president chose to talk about it this way, after spending several minutes talking about the need for an economic comeback and what an “incredible” job the administration has done. He mentioned that the US coronavirus dead would fill “two Yankee stadiums”, adding “it’s been grim.”

Yankee Stadium's capacity is 54, 251.

Whenever he says 'most people' he means himself as one of them.

Armed Black Citizens Escort Michigan lawmaker to capitol after volatile rightwing protest

Good for them, although dude in the front needs to reconsider how threatening .22lr really is.

Yeah but there was talk of Trump pardoning him. Barr is completely shameless in not hiding the fact that he is just a stooge for the president. It's an absolute disgrace.

Flynn isn't off the hook just yet. The Judge in the case still has to sign off on this 'deal' .The Judge is Judge Sullivan who took a dim view, to say the least, of Flynn's actions.Judge Sullivan actually asked prosecutors of they considered charging Flynn with Treason, probably because he thought such charges were merited .

i'd definitely sidestep if you pointed one at me

Of course, but thinking of the situation these particular folks are (potentially) heading into, i.e. facing other armed individuals the likes of which we saw last week, he's coming in pretty light with that.

I couldn't have imagined a worse AG than Sessions but here we are.
That's also one of the incredible parts. Barr is doing things that even Sessions wouldn't dare.

@Sky1981 I don't think it was just Hollywood. There were real life events that gave us the impression that the US justice system was slightly fairer than others when it came to political matters. I'd include in particular the Saturday Night Massacre when not one, but two US AGs (deputy in the 2nd case) resigned rather than following the President's order. Also a bit symbolically, but my favorite name of a case is United States v. Nixon. That is the state going against the sitting President, forever a reminder that the President is not the state.

How is this any better than the MAGA crowd? If they ever use those guns hundreds could die. Leave the policing to the police.

I'd argue that the MAGA crowd has some uncomfortable ties to White Supremacy movements so a black legislatior could have a legitimate reason to be fearful after the MAGA protests, which would somewhat justify coming to the legislature with an armed escort.
