As much as Trump is the devil, in my opinion this story was reported for the sole reason people wanted to believe.

lets think about the mechanics of impeachment.
The Republicans are in the majority. They would need to bring this to a vote.

Buzzfeed did kind of screw CNN by posting the memos for all to see, given the how outlandish some of the claims are. But on the other hand CNN maybe could've been more considering of the fact that half of DC had copies of the memo apparently, so there was a probability it would come out.

No, it is. CNN updated its story to confirm as much. But initially they had not commented on any info of the memos, just linked the memos to the 2-page annex by the IC to POTUS and PEOTUS.
And I have no idea if the Ritz story is true. What seems true is that everyone in DC has seen the memos with the Ritz story, and it also seems true that a former MI6 officer with no prior history of BS (which is not sufficient endorsement by itself) is the origin of the memos.I thought about this, it seemed pretty quick after. CNN amongst others, on the other hand, reported the existence of the report and that Obama & Trump had been aware of the report. No idea where the piss story is from, but it's been doing the rounds since yesterday. Then today Trump gave the most bizarre press conference you are likely to see by any elected state of head anywhere anytime, in which he (or his lawyer to be exact) first promised that Trump would not get involved in his business empire during the duration of his presidency, and then Trump declared war on Mexico, the pharmaceutical industry and CNN. In a nutshell. Wrong or right?

Because he didn't explain the details of how he'll handle his businesses during his presidency but let Russia's law firm of the year 2016 do it for him, and because he did everything to make sure to take as few questions as possible.
Somebody with guts wouldn't delegate the first part and would take all those challenging questions. I didn't expect him to take a lot of questions but to feck off so quickly was even more cowardly of him than I expected.
