Over the last few years I’ve held the belief that the GOP has a real, vetted interest in destroying the education system in this country so that they can ensure a solid voting block come election time.
I don't think its even that cynical. They get a ton of money from for-profit colleges and the only thing consistent with McConnell era GOP is that they do whatever it takes to keep their donor base happy. The current regime is really unfiltered GOP greed without bothering with putting up a facade.
The EPA is run by ex-oil industry lobbyists, the education department is run by convicted for-profit college lobbyists and so on and so forth. Like the article suggests, the foxes are guarding the hen house.
I think their long term goal is more likely to be complete privatization, in order to milk that sector too. Given most people are prepared to spend on their child's education it could be a very lucrative market (even when targeting the middle class, it's already happened for the 1%). Not that I endorse any of this.
For someone who professes to not drink, he sure sounds drunk all the time. Or he's going to have a stroke very soon.
