There's no reaching a deal with Taliban as US doesn't neogtiate with terrorists and they can't get rid of Taliban as long as the Afghan economy is reliant on poppy plantation.

At this point he feels he cannot lose the support of the base. He is worried about the Muller probe, but thinks he can wriggle his way out of it as long as he can keep his approval at the current levels. In his thinking, his crimes or misdemeanors wouldn't matter as long as he keeps promises that he made on the campaign trail. And to a certain extent, I think he is right too. A large percentage of the base doesn't care about those things and want him to continue implementing his racist & cultural 'Make America White Great Again' agenda.
