Basically he says it and then it happens because if not then he is humiliated and he and the forces would have to deal with unimaginable backlash from serving troops families the public and the media would have a field day. They have to go along with it or Trump would look so weak. He's basically blackmailed to get his own way. Not for the first time by any stretch.

SO much wrong with this Tweet! Syria is an enemy now but recently he was praising Assad. AND... ISIS were defeated yesterday but again today are a threat. Ffs.

His distractions are getting more and more desperate.

There's also the fact that he includes Russia in the "locals" group. I'm no fan of American involvement in the Middle East, to be sure, but it does seem like he's ceding that role to Russia rather willingly.

I can't work out if he just means Syria are the enemy or Them, Russia, Iran and the locals are the enemy?

Surely he wouldn't say that. As usual his appalling grasp of English and fecked up way of Tweeting causes confusion.

I think he just means Syria, but he despises Iran so why include them and not put them as the enemy first? Or alongside Syria?

He seems to be saying that killing ISIS is only doing a favour for Iran, Russia and other close geographically.

So by that logic, he’s saying that we need to stop defeating ISIS because there is no benefit to the US.

He shuts it down because Congress won't give him money for a wall that he said over and over Mexico would pay for. Pelosi and co. just need to sit it out until he crumbles as the blame is all on him and repubs.

He doesn't win. The sad fact for Trump is that he couldn't get the wall done and now when he's realized that he does what every 5-year old would do and throws a temper tantrum.

I didn't believe that was actually a real post by his official Twitter account. What in the hell. It just never stops getting more bizarre does it.

Also-that video about bringing the troops home from Syria. Most people with a sense of intelligence will see right through that desperate propaganda/pandering. But then again - he is of course not talking to that group. In that regard its pretty brilliantly done.
 
If I had to guess, Mattis was offended at being undercut and thrown into public scrutiny on the whims of Trump. Not too dissimilar from Rex.

The 'adults in the room' are all leaving, or already gone...

Mattis knew his shit and was one of the few person who would stop Trump if he went out of control. I fear we are gonna see a bad replacement.
