I know you are joking but here is a basic list of conservative morality from Lakoff:

  • • God above Man
    • Man above Nature
    • The Disciplined (Strong) above the Undisciplined (Weak)
    • The Rich above the Poor
    • Employers above Employees
    • Adults above Children
    • Western culture above other cultures
    • America above other countries
    • Men above Women
    • Whites above Nonwhites
    • Christians above non-Christians
    • Straights above Gays
And this is an interesting read on the subject:

small problem though.

These conservatives are not Christians.

They know feck all about the scriptures.

Most people don't vote based on economic self-interest though, they vote based on moral values. And even then some people believe that economics starts and stops with Hayek and Friedman so they naively believe the 'invisible hand' of laissez-faire economics actually works.

That's because most people are stupid.

So...is he done. Nixon mk. II? It'll be great if he can't milk the lecture circuit afterwards. And all he had to do was get through four years.

How many people understand the issues.
Lack of education does play a part.

But then again I have talked to people who claim to have gone to college and done economics or Business admin and still believe in vodoo economics.

Prejudice also plays a big part.

As I said. I don't see the morality of the GOP.

I read that 100's of GM workers gathered yesterday and were praying for their jobs. What do you think might come from that?

I don't understand how any person not of caucasian skin tone be a member/supporter of the GOP. They are openly trying to keep minorities from voting/taking part in democratic processes. Dems aren't much better overall but there is a difference there.

These people are only interested in lining their pockets.

Thomas the SC judge is your typical house boy who gives a feck about his own kind.

I think settled immigrants are GOP Aligned. I know a lot of Indians settled in US and who have become citizens vote GOP because they like low taxes and reduced role of government, especially after politicians looting in India. A lot of Hindu Indians like the anti Muslim rhetoric, a lot of Christian Indians like the Christian nation rhetoric. This is just my view on Indian immigrants and I won't be surprised if people who have settled here are also for tough immigration measures.

They are teaching the voodoo trickle down economics at tertiary level as well. There's a massive amount of information online showing that professors are being paid to give speeches and by extension throw the trickle down garbage out there.

Yeah I agree. I've seen this in some Asian and Latino immigrant comminities. From what I've seen the old racists are more in small towns and rural areas. But the Trump supporters in bigger cities are more Western chauvinists (for lack of a better term). A few I've known were of the type where if someone accepts 'traditional America values' (Old Testament God or born again Jesus, market fundamentalism, Protestant work ethic, rugged individualism) then they are accepted. Among the GOP supporting immigrants I've known there is a mindset of 'I got mine , do not care about anything else'

Nothing wrong with prayer. If it were a group of Muslim workers praying for their jobs and someone said what you guys were saying you'd call that person Islamophobic.

Nope. Attacking a religion or belief isn't the same as attacking someones race or ethnicity.

Let me guess, because you "chose your religion" and are born into an ethnicity? This lazy thinking needs to end. Attacking someone's religion is as bad. Disagree with it but no need to attack it.

I saw an Indian who came to US through the H1 B program with a citizenship railing against cheap Indian H1 immigrant labor last year. fecking idiot.

I also think it's just not tied to religion. People from Asia like small governments especially after coming from countries where heavy nationalization have really not affected their lives for the better. Some are really tied to the idealogy of privatization. Immigrants coming from countries with huge population have a higher tolerance level for adjusting with authority as well. Maybe I'm rambling a bit but I can see why the idea of GOP attracts them and it's just not to do with glory to jesus or feck everybody else who comes after me. One thing is the next generation born to this lot will lean Democratic especially with Green earth initiatives

Who's attacking a religion? I'm saying you are stupid and gullible if you believe in a fairy story about some benevolent sky daddy watching over you.

That's your (terrible) opinion but I agree that's not attacking. I'm just saying when people do actually attack someone's religion -- it should never be tolerated.

This has strayed somewhat from the thread title. Perhaps a religion-fuelled debate would be better had in a religion thread.

These are all fair points but the bold in particular I think is interesting because I think you are right and that contributes to the general distrust of government. In the big city GOP networks it reinforces their belief that 'see city/state X was so corrupt so government is bad'.
