It's pretty ridiculous, isn't it? The past 20 years the US started two major wars in the Middle East, destabilizing the entire region to the point of ISIS throwing several countries into complete chaos.
He means the GCC states. And if America were to withdraw from the Gulf, leaving the GCC states exposed to Iran there, we'd likely see a conflict which would disrupt global supplies of oil and send prices through the roof.
So what he really means is they protect American interests in the Middle East?
