Yep. Just days after the big Woodward reveal and what is everyone talking about? The identity of an anonymous op-ed. The actual contents of Woodwards book have been pretty much pushed off the front pages within 2 days, and now the White House can change the narrative into 'Uncover the traitor!'.

It's all too fecking convenient to be a coincidence.
No way. Lots of good reporting on Trump's reaction. Volcanic. Brooding. Paranoic. Its real.

Not sure if this has been posted yet:

Asked by conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt about whether Trump can be indicted, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Friday that the Justice Department "has taken the position ... that the appropriate remedy for presidential misbehavior is impeachment," though he added that he is "not an expert on this."

Based on that and other quotes they are clearly less hesitant to give the impression they are open to challenging the Don but only in such a way that if something happens that it's down to him personally and/or the DoJ - but not the party. I gave a lighter and lighter fluid to a child but don't blame me for burning the house down.

My thoughts exactly

If I was Trump - I would keep posting crap and undermining Sessions and whoever......

The way things are going Mueller will always be investigating. Trump could get 8 years out of Mueller investigating yet

Isn't that hand signal just the equivalent of a thumbs up? I've only been able to watch without sound but is she not just agreeing with whatever is being said at that time?

Trump does it all the time

Wake up, sheep peeps - it's the sign of the esoteric Nazi cult of the Black Sun(!!!)

Why does it seem like Trump is constantly doing a stand up routine at his rallies? Is he planning for a career change after presidency?
He sees himself as an entertainer first. Like most entertainer, they crave adulation, laughs or claps.

I find it very concerning that Trump still does these rallies. I'm not an American, but did Obama or Bush do these kinds of things whilst in office?

It's quite clear he loves doing these as he's surrounded by individuals who share his twisted views and cheer/hoot/holler everytime he brings up a special buzzphrase: 'Crooked Hillary', 'Fake news' etc. You can see the smugness he gets off it hearing the adoration, and he talks about himself in such an obnoxious fashion like with the NATO payment agreement, making it seem as if everyone was eating out the palm of his hand.

These offer nothing more than an ego-massage session before he has to go back to the cold reality of what is happening to 'his' administration. I cannot fecking wait for that man to get his comeuppance.

The rallies are technically done to support voter enthusiasm on behalf of local politicians (last night's was for the Republican Senate candidate in Montana). They of course do quickly turn into Mussolini like rant sessions where Trump spends his time railing against his political enemies.

Ah ok I see, thanks.

Yeah, I'd like to know the time he spent promoting the Montana candidate compared to rambling about his own problems.

Trump would speak at a CND conference so long as they publicly praised him beforehand.

Independent vote in pres elections:

2004: Kerry +1
2008: Obama +8
2012: Romney +5
2016: Trump +4

Where is the correlation

There doesn't have to be one since each candidate had a varying amount of base support. Independents are just one of several groups successful candidates have to do well in. How well depends on how much base support as well as support from other unexpected areas they receive.

Sanders for instance, did very well among independents and less well with the Dem base, which allowed him to move from single digits to nearly winning.

Washington Post said:
We are a superpower run by a simpleton

Amid this crisis, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un expressed his “unwavering faith in President Trump,” and the president reacted just as the North Korean leader surely knew he would — touting the positive opinion of a homicidal despot on Twitter as a character reference.

If you prick him, does he not explode? If you stroke him, does he not purr?

The president’s form of deception is qualitatively different from the deviousness of Richard M. Nixon or the smoothness of Bill Clinton. Trump pursues no deep or subtle strategies. He does not even consistently seek his own interests. He responds like a child or a narcissist — but I repeat myself — to positive or negative stimulation. It is the reason a discussion on “Fox & Friends” can so often set the agenda of the president. It is the reason that Trump’s lawyers, in the end, can’t allow him to be interviewed by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III. It would be like a 9-year-old defending a PhD dissertation. Or maybe a rabbit jumping into a buzz saw.

This lesson can’t be lost on foreign intelligence services, which can pre-order a comprehensive account of the president’s psychological and political vulnerabilities for $18 online. (Note: Woodward now owes me.) Here is the increasingly evident reality of the Trump era: We are a superpower run by a simpleton. From a foreign policy perspective, this is far worse than being run by a skilled liar. It is an invitation to manipulation and contempt.

Perfectly plausible although the Times would've surely vetted that possibility before proceeding to publish. Also, I don't think there's anything that could derail the Kavanaugh nomination since he will probably get a couple of Dem Senators to vote yes, which would neutralize any possibility of Collins and Murkowski voting now (which they are voting yes anyway).

In my opinion, the only thing that could have actually derailed Kavanaugh would been some Anita Hill type of allegations that were credible and unexpected.

Yes agreed. The Dems are simply engaging in political theater to animate voter enthusiasm in the lead up to the mid terms, and there's no better way to do it than to go on national TV and tell people Roe v Wade is in jeopardy and that Kavanaugh was nominated to protect Trump in the Russia investigation.

I listened to the daily podcast of the NYT, the person who edits the editorial section claimed he was approached by the anonymous author through an intermediary who he completely trusts and then once he read the content and showed willingness to publish it, he communicated directly with the author. That squashes any theory of this being a manufactured letter.

Makes sense. Had the Times fallen for a Trump WUM then the paper would've lost all credibility, so I'm sure they vetted the source to the max before proceeding.

This op-ed thing just seems like a simple case the Republicans trying to put the message out that it is still safe to vote for them despite there being a lunatic in charge, they have him under control (ha). The timing is due to this Woodward book.

Took the words right out of my mouth
