The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

So suddenly we don't trust US elections anymore? Trump became president because of Putin rather than a few states swinging the results in his favor?
Multiple factors contributed to Trump winning, some through his own campaigning (enthusing more supporters in the rust belt) some external (Comey, Wikileaks). It can be simultaneously true that Trump won a free and fair election, and that Russia actively interfering to help their preferred candidate is chilling.

If of course it comes out that his campaign was directly colluding with Russia, then that becomes something else.

Are you real?

What you think the US are bastions of morales and ethics?

This thread has turned into an echo chamber for the self righteous.

It seems we have some American posters here who are shocked and appalled at the idea of a foreign state interfering in their electoral process...

Not much better than Russia's but how their government can sponsor Olympic doping and hacking to influence another country's election is pretty astounding.

Of course I understand they do allot of heinous things and we don't even know what else they have done or are doing. The problem is the US are far worse/better and have gone further in rigging both their own and foreign elections but most of the time they don't bother and just invade instead or sponsor armed gorillas/militias

It's dangerous to believe that a particular group has the moral high ground

Just a guess but I wouldn't at all be shocked if it is revealed that Kremlin stooge Carter Page has been acting as a go between, between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign to coordinate things like Wikileaks releases, GOP policy on Ukraine, and Trump's general view on Russia policy.

I find it more plausible that the CIA prefers Trump to become president rather than the Russian intelligence agencies outsmarting the CIA. I'm perfectly confident that the CIA knows what's up behind the scenes.

It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. It's staggering and infuriating. This is the very reason why both the Russian and US establishment get away with what they do and let's not forget the UK. There are always psychos at the top it's just a matter of who is top of the pile.

It isn't actually if you believe in Democratic norms, the rule of law, gender equality, media freedoms, and the like. Its the moral relativists who claim Democracies and Totalitarians are the same that are the real problem.

It never got a huge amount of coverage at the time, but Michael McCaul (The Republican who is chair of the House homeland security committee) claimed Russia hacked the RNC but later claimed he "misspoke".

Hmm...yes I do remember that. It was on Wolf Blitzer's show after which everyone swiftly denied it and he did a 180 and claimed he misspoke.

Though to be fair, US prefers to help overthrow elected Govt rather than meddle in the process itself.

Listen here buddy...we're the superpower. We unseat elected governments and mess up countries so they can have democracy.

We're not meant to be shat on like this :(

Biggest oil project in the world in which American expertise and capital would be vital gets put on hold, an election takes place in which one candidate is the only hope of getting it off the ground, Russia launches a elaborate campaign to influence said election, CEO of Exxon gets one of the most important positions in world politics.

That's like some Syriana level shit, or even worse maybe. Kinda makes me want to watch it again..

So... how will life change for us now that Putin's Russia has supplanted the US as leaders of the free world?

So my question is....

Is this shit really going to be allowed? Can and will they really get away with all this? The Exxon exec and $300bn deal is just taking the piss even further, they aren't even trying to deny it anymore, just ignoring it now and pretending nobody listens or cares.

If none of this matters and nothing becomes of it all then democracy is dead, especially in the USA and the illusion of "the land of opportunity" is fecked. Proper fecked!

It's absurdly blatant. At this point Trump really shouldn't be President - it's clear he's working against US interests and is allowing Russia to meddle in the countries affairs. Beyond absurd.

Exactly! So on top of the continuous lies, the sexist comments, the blatant racism and completely impossible promises, not releasing tax returns, conflicts of interest, feck me I give up I can't be arsed to list it all, there's pages and pages of shit the moron did and said and didn't do, we all know it. Anyway, on top of EVERYTHING ELSE! Now there is concrete proof of Russian meddling and extreme conflicts of interest in cabinet appointments and deals AND current embargos and sanctions against a foreign country! But despite all that, everything is kushty and all ok?

Can the Republicans on this forum please, just for one minute, stop and imagine this was all being done by a Democrat Candidate and the Democratic Party. Feck me, just imagine what here and Twitter and Facebook would be like.
