The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

Of course Trump has made threats to North Korea to try curb their aggressive stance on weapons and weapons-testing, but has he outright clamoured for nuclear war? If he is hellbent on nuclear war, why isn't he the one initiating proceedings then? Why is he exploring different avenues to try coax Jong-Un into line? (China, sanctions etc.) I find it incredible that there are people here convinced Trump actually wants to start a nuclear war. Absolutely incredible.

Yet I'm the immature one? Go figure!

So how else would you read "fire and fury like the world has never seen"? How is a normal person meant to understand that other than nuclear war.

There is a little tiresome 'OHMAHGAWD WHAT HE'S DONE NOW' reaction to every little thing Trump does or is reported to have done. I don't like the man but when you do that it sets a parameter whereby you're cheapening the purpose of opposition. Let me put it another way - if Trump tweeting is an act of derangement then what will you do when he actually achieves something of notoriety? On the other hand I get the argument he has cheapened the presidency to the point merely giving a watered down pre arranged speech receives praise.

This is the thing about Trump. He's not actually done anything off his own back. He bullshits, blusters and contradicts himself and member of his inner circle. I don't see him as a danger to society as society has sussed him out. Look at his ratings, look at how he has failed to pass through legislation. Look at how his own party is deserting him, look at the recent election results and look at how past presidents have all come out to slam him. Dangerous people in history typically had a level of competence in getting things done. Donald Trump can't get anything done.

We have, but the problem is that he still wields an extraordinary amount of political power even if most if it is largely symbolic. His mere words have the potential to cause crises in foreign policy - as of yet we've gotten off lightly but the President has a lot of power in regards to how he uses the military and so long as Trump remains at the helm is concerning.

But you do make a fair point in that for all his grand claims, he's pretty much done feck all so far.

@Buchan

Can you translate this so that we don't get it wrong, please?
Putin does not believe Russia interfered in the election... trump believes putin believes that.

Four (Not 17) agencies believe Russia did interfere in the election... trump believes the agencies believe that.

He's not the first politician to dodge a direct question... but it is one of the more convoluted attempts at doing so

It's the four agencies that are actually relevant.

As usual he's being disingenuous in his argument and trying to suggest that 13 agencies came to the conclusion that Russia did not meddle in the election.

The truth is that agencies like the DEA, Department of Treasury, National Geospatial-Intelligence and the Coast-Guard Intelligence Agency had no opinion on the matter as it's very much outside their scope. They might have contributed resources but they wouldn't have tasked their analysts with any work on their behalf.

I think you may be correct that the majority have sussed him out but don't forget we are seeing people state they'd vote for a man who has raped a 14 y/o because Jesus' dad did as well. I have near zero faith in Republican voters at this point, and less than that in Republican politicians. In other words, he's still very dangerous, example 1 Supreme Court picks.

You’re suggesting the normalisation of his behaviour is complete and we should act as such.

Bollocks to that. Everything he does and says should be held to the same standards his predecessors were held to. Anything less is essentially facilitating him.

Wow - talk this morning about whether Kushner flew to Saudi a couple of weeks ago to seek financial support for his doomed 666 building project in NYC, possibly in exchange for a lenient U.S. view on the Saudi domestic crackdown.

That's ok, they are all at it, all the time, let's just move on shall we?

Is that the project that was linked with misused public funds?

It's arguably the worst thing coming from his Twitter account, if that tweet is real then imagine how other world leaders will look at him when they are in a room with him. They know that he is the weakest leader.
They won't be thinking weak, they'll be thinking easy to manipulate. A sly compliment here, a quick backrub there and they'll probably be made allies.

You are right but I had the current allies in mind more than anyone else. For example at the UN security council.

Do we think Trump will be super aggressive and active on his Twitter after he’s left office? That’d be some popcorn!
Esp if he has differing views of the next admin. Imagine the diplomatic scenes!!

Probably yeah, he craves attention and whenever his Presidency inevitably comes to an end he'll probably try to recapture it by staying in the public scene. Likely he'll come into conflict with people writing on the effects of his Presidency etc, and on him being a poor one.

He’d probably get arrested on Day One for revealing state secrets.

I've mentioned it before - this is why I think the GOP won't get in the way of a Jail sentence rather than just impeach and pardon him.

If he gets pardon'd he's going to be a massive thorn in everyone's side until the day he dies. He'll go on a tour of the places where he has support and he'll lobby against the establishment.

Yep fascinating and highly plausible IMO. And there’s no anointed next-gen to take over that mantle (yet!).

I think he'll be on the warpath even more after he's left office. Should a Democrat win in 2020, they'll attempt to overturn many of Trump's policies and executive orders, which will surely set him off.

That is, of course, if Twitter is still a thing by that point... :wenger:

A HUGE bucket of popcorn if that happens....!
