The Trump Presidency | Biden Inaugurated

It actually isn't. Just as Huntington's Clash of Civilizations isn't a thing. It's a perception illusion used by people to vilify one side and promote the other.

I'm sure south Asians find it useful to "other" Europeans and Americans to support whatever argument they are making, but its hard referenced in places like Europe and America.

Wut? The video shows a freely elected leader of North America is delivering a speech in Poland, an European country bang in the middle. But some "South Asians use it for arguments they are making"?

Referencing the words of a professional liar is hardly grounds for a credible argument. To reiterate, there is no such thing as the west. It isn't a country, a single continent, doesn't have a language or even a galvanized culture. Its merely an amorphized concept used by people to describe or vilify Europe and the U.S.

He may be a professional liar, but he's the leader of the free world for all intents and purposes. When he's saying there's a West and it's ideals, I'm getting lectures from some random bloke sitting in California pontificating about 'how he's qualified to talk about West' and there's no West and just some Asians who may use it to make an argument?

Reiterate all you want, but this no thing as the West may be true according to you, but not to the majority of the world/US. Since you live in a democracy, majority wins. Take a hike dude.

That means feck all. If Trump doesn't have credibility then he doesn't have credibility. If you want to use moral paragons like Trump and Bannon to support your imaginary entity then that's on you.

I'm fine with people lauding, say, the cultural (i.e. artistic) traditions of the West as objectively great...not so much that it is objectively best; this is the kind of nuance Trump inevitably overlooks.

It doesn't mean feck all. What credibility do you have to simply deny that 'West' and Western values do not exist when many in this forum tell you that they do? Of course you can think whatever you want, that West is an imaginary thing like religion, but that doesn't make it true.

Can't believe this wasn't shared here yet, especially since all was discussed on the last 2 pages were his handshake accidents

It's not a tangible thing beyond being a device to describe a vague and amorphous concept. If it were real it would something a bit more tangible. Keep imagining though.

The issue i have with Trumps version of "the west" is thats its different to what others in the west identify in. Many in the west believe in freedom, tolerance and kindness of all humanity which Trump and the likes of Bannon and Miller do not believe in.

His use of words like "OUR PEOPLE" and "OUR CIVILISATION" is their way of creating dividing lines and trying to make out its a clash between 2 sets of people (non Muslims and Muslims).

Agree with this. The term is just a lazy cultural device by people seeking to "other" the opposing side.

But you do agree that 'West' as an idea is not imaginary and it does exist?

I come from a family in rural India. Both my parents were adopted/supported by German missionaries at a young age because of the prevailing poverty in the 50's. People like me have an unique perspective of growing up in a conservative Asian country supported by people in the West with their western values.

It is entirely daft and provocatively stupid to declare there is no such thing as Western values because there is no 'homogenous Western population' and it's all a ploy at divisive rhetoric. Western values affect our lives every day, good or bad.

Yep.

Look up the word 'occidental', will tell you all you need to know.

Your posts about the first family are the pinnacle of Western culture

:lol::lol:
Yeah, I'm the worst representative of Western culture, mate. :D

Still, of all the people to proclaim the (supposed) superiority of the West, why oh why did it have to be Donald Poxy Trump?!?
*cries a lot*

I'd just like to point out that Trump's "palm up handshake" there is a sign of submission according to body language experts

It looks like Trumpy & Putin are in a public toilet there.

WH not allowing Tillerson's press conference to be broadcast.

You'd think they'd want the whole world to hear how the meeting went and what was discussed.

The cowardly passive aggrieved schtick isn't working. If you have something to say to me, say it to me directly.

Dude, If I want to say anything/something to you, I'll reply to your post and say it to you. But if I wanted to reply to Neutral's post sarcastically, I'll do just that.

Not sure what is cowardly about the post.

You'd think the WH would try to seizes the initiative by ending their feud with their media for one day and end their ridiculous ban on live camera briefings.

The WH are getting beat by the Russians in the pr spin.

Putin hardly looks Trump in the eye in most of the videos I have seen. One thing I will say though, is why are people surprised the meeting went on so long? In the style of Cenk from TYT. OF COURSE!!! the meeting went on for so long, they had a lot to talk about

Good job they mentioned what 'spasibo' means; I assumed that Vlad was calling Trumpy a name.

No doubt the Russians are telling some porkies.

Its why its important you get the likes of Tillerson to do press conferences to get their story out and to get ahead in terms of the pr. Russians must have been giving each other high fives when they heard Tillerson would only be doing a audio briefing which the media could broadcast on delay.
