A win for Utd tomorrow night leaves 3 points between 5 teams. You might want to wait a while before talking about what competitions Utd and Spurs will be in next season. Do people still wonder why Glaston gets abuse?

This argument began by TheReligion's wumming. Which is precisely what I keep saying and why mods threadban wums.

So might you ...

As for "people still wonder" ... I believe it was a United fan who started speculating at to which Spurs player would want out. However, I think every Spurs' player will be reasonably content to be sitting in 2nd place in the table tonight - don't you?

Signing Sissoko for 40 million was disgraceful. If they would of tried to get a top right winger at the beginning of the window for that price they could of won the league.

Aye, that was an absurd transfer. He's direct but has no intelligence at all and isn't Top 6 quality, not even for a squad player. I'd question any team paying 15 million for him, but 30 million. feck.

It did but that doesn't mean Glaston didn't come in with the Utd are shite jibes. There's two sides to everything.

And I have. Where have I said what competition Spurs will be playing in next season? Spurs have a bloody good chance of qualifying for the Champions League. Utd have more chance than you're pretending too. But whatever makes you happy.

NOT a wum, genuine question: @GlastonSpur @SirHenryPercy at the start of this season would you have taken this at this point of the season? In the Europa League, 5th round of the Cup and second, but not likely to mount a real title challenge given the 9 point gap and potentially just 3 points ahead of 6th tomorrow?

Is looking likely to solidify top 4 enough this season, or were you expecting to be closer to the leaders/through to the knockouts of the Champions League? How do you feel about a run in the Europa League/FA Cup? I know some people on here want their teams out of cup competitions.

You didn't answer mine? United won the FA cup last season and played CL football. This season they are in the top 4 race, in a cup final and still in two other cup competitions.

Spurs have won nothing and were embarassingly dumped out of the CL with the most valuable squad in England.

How much longer do top players go without silverware?

You've spent nearly £400m net over the last 5 years, compared to £7m net for Spurs, plus spend enormously more than us on wages, yet were dumped out of the CL last season, remain stuck in 6th place in the league this season and have finished below Spurs in two of the last three seasons.

I rather think the greater embarrassment lies with United.

So no United players will want out, even given another season of EL football?

I was genuinely thinking about this and I can only think of de Gea wanting to move on, if we fail to qualify again. That's only going to happen if Madrid are still interested. Martial might leave, but that might have different reasons, which will hopefully not happen.

Likewise, where have I said in which competition Spurs will be playing next season?

United still have a chance of course, but IMO it's not a great chance. Time will tell.

And what has net spend achieved? Our honours list has grown.

Why isn't it a great chance in your opinion?

Aye, I think that's realistic. Pogba won't be going anywhere for a while, he along with De Gea are probably our most prized assets currently. The rest of our players risk being sold for different reasons (i.e. under performing).

Why don't you think it's a great chance? Ok our GD is going to be a problem later in the season, but we're not far behind (assuming we win tomorrow). I think it's about equal between 2nd to 6th really.

Yes, de Gea is the most likely, especially given that he would have gone before but a for technicality. The rest would likely stick on for the wages involved.

Your belittling of a team playing in the Europa League gives the answer to that question. A win against Hull leaves us two points outside the top four. That gives us a pretty good chance. It doesn't mean we'll do it but 3 points in the space of 15 games is fairly inconsequential.

Why isn't it a great chance in your opinion?

Well, partly because of the remaining fixture list for United compared to some of the other contenders (especially Liverpool), partly because Arsenal seem to always find a way of finishing in the top 4, and partly because, even if you win tomorrow and City only draw - a combination which is pretty unlikely - you'll still be outside the top 4.

Still, with plenty of games to go, you are still in contention.

I can't reply right now to all of the so many messages directed at me. Time for bed .. catch you tomorrow.

You're right in Spurs players no doubt being happy. But you've got title winning players in your squad. If they don't start winning titles those players will leave to fulfil their potential.

In no uncertain terms, if Spurs fail to win something this season, this season will be classed as a failure. You've got the best team in the league and enough strength in depth. It's February 1st. There are three competitions on offer and 3rd or 4th place and no cup in hand at the seasons close would have to be seen as a failure.

Personally I think you'll win something this season. But if you don't, you've got a very talented group of players that will have to start thinking "If not now, when?". There will never be less completion than right now.

Sissoko wasn't £40m, but I agree that it was a stupid deal, as I said at the time.

I think the key players in the squad will stay in tact through next year. If they haven't won any silverware and put up a stern title challenge in that time I think you'll see some of them leave. I'm sure they all love the club and Poch, but money and winning silverware matters also. If the latter doesn't happen soon then some of the players will look elsewhere and be happy to take the increased wages on offer as well.

Stop being a WUM!

While Pochettino is clearly a hell of a training ground coach, in the market he needs a lot more help than what he;s been getting. They are so close to being up there with the best clubs in the world but wont get there unless they really make some great signings and they don't look close to doing that.

You can't have both ways by getting new stadium (See Arsenal).

How much was it in the end? I'm so happy he rejected us. Him and Bolasie for that amount of money would of been hard to take. Funnily enough Bolasie could of been a decent signing for Spurs as you have no one like him.

Getting good players doesn't necessarily mean spending shed loads of money. Any club that spends 30million quid on Sissoko have to have a lok at their recruitment division.

In recent times they have wasted mega money on players.

Soldado 25m
Lamella 25m
Paulinho 18m
Chiraches 8.5m
N'Jie 12m
Fazio 8m
Son 22m
Sissoko 30m
Janssen 17m
N'koudo 10.8m

You could argue Lamella and Son have been okay but still overpriced.

30m according to TM, I checked when you mentioned it. That's 35m Euro, which if you think about it is the kind of sum that could be used to get a lot of top talent across Europe. Perhaps not the top tier, but certainly the second tier. I guess the Sissoko fee is somewhat balanced out by the signing of Wanyama for 12m. But signing Sissoko and Janssen for a combined fee of around £50m doesn't look very clever.

But then you got to look at Alli for 6m, Dier for 5m, Eriksen for 12m, Alderweireld for 14m and Wanyama for 12m. That's great business.

Lamela hasn't been okay. He's been a huge disappointment. Son has been fine imo. He's one of the most recent purchases so he's actually relatively more cheaper than those 3m on paper than Soldado cost. 20m for a player in a top team will most likely buy you a squad rotation player these days unless it's someone young that you have to break in.

Got some right, and some wrong like any club. Overall I think our recruitment has been quite good.

I'm still willing to give Janssen more time, he is a young player who seem to have a great attitude, and joined this season. Many players have a crap first season and then become good (and many don't, time will tell).

Lamela is a player who divides opinion it seems. I'm a big fan myself and thought that this season would be a great season for him, it started well, but because of injuries this hasn't happened. He may still have a big part to play in the last third of the season though.

I think City could go after Kane.

I can't see that happening as I don't think he fits how Guardiola wants to play. I think Guardiola see's Sane / Gabriel and possibly 'nacho as his strikers line in the medium term. I think Aguero will possibly be sold at the end of next season.

If Kane was to go anywhere I could more likely see United buying him to replace Ibra

I really like Lamela, I think he's a cracking player in the making though I wouldn't be surprised to see Spurs sell him on and do really well elsewhere, sometimes players just don't fit in at places.
