I agree, but we haven't seen Mata's top level for years. Eriksen has been a better performer for a while IMO, not that there is much in it.
You obviously haven't been watching Mata this season. Been very, very good. A level below Ozil and De Bruyne but still comfortably better than Eriksen .

Easily. Eriksen, although talented, is extremely inconsistent.

Really poor by Spurs last night, but people should give some credit to Leverkusen as well, they looked a good side.

Jaysus, 30m for that player Sissoko. Bet Newcastle are laughing their arse off! Sissoko only works when the game is stretched. If you have the ball infront of a set back four and someone like Baumgartlinger breaking up play and shielding the ball, like an absolute boss last night, infront of the back 4; he's going to be found out. His technical ability and awareness is so poor.

Janssen, looks devoid of confidence which I kinda suspected to happen with zero chance until Kane gets an injury, then it's all on him. Not particularly fair.

As I said when the window closed, I really think they've made a poor decision not investing in higher quality players than Janssen and N'koudou. I rate Wanyama, but all he's done is push Dier out the side, who was supposedly a revelation last season. When you're bringing on Winks for Eriksen, you know your squad is just too wafer thin to be competing in the CL. Lets just hope for their sake it will do them a favour for the derby at the weekend.

Eriksen was very good for the whole of last season. Mata might be having a good season now but he has blown hot and cold over the past three years. I'm not saying it's all his fault (poor management and wrongly used, I think he can be very good in the right set-up) but Eriksen has been a far better performer over the last two years than Mata.

Eh? I assumed the conversation was about this season, no? Anyhow, I'm not even that much of a Mata fan whatsoever but he has been very good this season while I think that Eriksen has been poor compared to his form from last season. Odd.

When you've got Winks, Sissoko, Ndoukou and Davies playing in a crucial CL game, you know you've got squad depth issues.

Spurs really need their players fit and the spine of the side back (Kane, Dembele & Toby).

Put Eriksen under LVG and you'll have just as subdued a performance as Mata.

Ah, fair enough if you were talking about this season only, I just think it's a bit weird to describe a player as (in)consistent based on ten games or so.

Not disputing that Mata hasn't been good this season, with you on that.

I was talking about this season he has been inconsistent so not really weird at all. The poster I quoted specifically mentioned 'this season'. I like Eriksen, but I do think he can blow hot and cold although last season, he was very impressive although he was overshadowed by the likes of Alli and Kane.

Mata has often blown hot and cold for us too, but he's actually impressed me this season, for the most part anyway.

Everytime I watch Spurs I think they lack a change of pace. They all work hard but apart from the fullbacks they only have one gear.

I'm still trying to figure out why they chose to play their home games away from home.

Because they couldn't play them at WHL due to the ongoing surrounding construction of the new stadium: it wouldn't have met UEFA requirements, which will be impacted by the works in and around the current stadium affecting access, capacity and rights delivery.

It was amusing watching Glaston try to justify the signing. Utter garbage to say the least.

Actually I said wasn't happy with Sissoko's signing ... but don't let the facts get in the way of your amusement.

For all the praise we give MP I have to say their summer business in the market looks very very poor and costly.
That's Levy for you, no doubt the manager wanted to strengthen but Levy won't spend the money with the stadium being built.

What's the likely line-up on Sunday?

Depends on injuries but probably something like:

(4-1-4-1)Lloris; Walker, Dier, Vertonghen, Rose; Wanyama; Lamela, Eriksen, Alli, Son; Kane

Don't know if Dembele will make it but even if he does he'll probably breakdown again. Lamela and Kane are 50/50, Alderweireld's most likely still out.

Definitely. I was talking about the last few season's.

Can someone explain why this forum rates Eriksen so highly? He's been underwhelming for a while now that the freekicks have dried up. Good player but there are so many other better players in this League than him that perform a similar role. Mata, Mkhitaryan, Hazard, Coutinho, De Bruyne, Silva, Payet, Mahrez, Ozil just off the top of my head.

Surely Kane won't start, straight back from injury?

a lot of Spurs fans in the football media constantly overhyping him eventually seeps through to the general mentality

Dembele is considered by some on here as a top midfielder in the prem. I think that should indicate the current state of midfielders in this league.

Janssen is a dud. I was skeptical when Spurs signed him, He only seems to be able to score penalties. Shows the importance Kane has to this team.

Decent point at the Gooners but we still need to do more in offensive areas.

Great to have H back even if he was only half fit, hopefully after the break we will have Toby and Dele back and we can be more assertive and aggressive again.

As an aside always after watching a game at The Emirates I dread our new stadium being a soulless and atmosphere free corporate bowl like that stadium.

Think they were very lucky against Arsenal. Arsenal's first half performance was fantastic tbh, and should have been 2 or 3 nil up. Is this Spurs worst run of form ever since Pochettino was appointed?

Yeah, but Arsenal weren't able to keep it up in the second half, so in the end it was probably a relatively fair result. If there was a team that "deserved" to win though, it was definitely Arsenal. Fantastic first half from them.

Will be interesting to see if Spurs can respond to this mini crisis. For all our shitness, we're only three points behind them, and they are in real danger of dropping out of the Champions League in the group stages.

Arsenal dominated the last 15 minutes of the first half, apart from those 15 minutes we were very comfortable and had the best chances in the game. Kane, Eriksen and Son all had really good chances, Eriksen's and Son's at 1-1.

We aren't in good form but I'm confident that we will turn it around especially when Kane is fully fit again and Toby returns to the fold.

and to be fair, created three excellent chances.

This is the best start to a season in the league Spurs have had since 1961 - if this is the worst ever run of form since Pochettino has then we will be very fortunate!

Yep. We may only be in 5th currently, but people forget that we've already played City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton.

Fair point, wasn't dissing your start, just pointing out the good work by Pochettino.

Cameron-Carter Vickers has just been called up to the US senior squad for the first time. Not bad for an 18 year-old.
