Why do Spurs want Zaha, they sold Towsend in January who's a much better player

Well that is debatable, with Townsend Poch had plenty of time to try and develop him into a player that could work well for the way we play but unfortunately Townsend was unable to do the things we needed him to do and basically plays with his head down and his brain in the off position. I haven't seen enough of Zaha to really develop an opinion on whether he has it in him to be an effective player for Spurs but I guess if Poch has identified him as somebody he wants then I'll trust his opinion.

"Cringiest moments in football" thread needs a bump.

Anyway, fair group. They have a good chance at topping that group, to be honest. Surely they'll add to their squad though. Can't imagine they wouldn't look to strengthen the first XI.

To be honest, nobody who follows Man Utd can ever make any comments on the 'cringiest moments in football' after witnessing the carnage that were those Independence Day 2 and X-Men ad's your players were in. Those will never be beaten.

Some harsh comments on Mason here I feel. He isn't that technically gifted but as a high energy, box to box midfielder I have thought he has usually done quite well. He seemed unfortunate that after his breakthrough season 2 years ago, he was immediately ditched in favour of Dier and Alli (who obviously did very well). I recall last season he scored a goal when given his chance, but injured himself in the process and that was practically the last we saw of him.

Surprised nobody better than Hull are in for him but think he would be a very good signing for them.

Tbh, the backing of mason is everything that's wrong with English lower league football. People would much rather have someone like mason who runs round, not doing all that much but he "has a great engine and gives his all" than someone who's actually much better positionally and technically. I genuinely can't think of anything that mason is really good at, bar energy. He's such an average all round player.

I'm not surprised hull are the only ones really looking at him, especially the wages I imagine he's on.

Pritchard had far more talent, but never had the legs of mason, yet he hardly got a chance. Shame really.

Does anybody else think we might see spurs go to three at the back?
Dier and Wanyama both in central mid feels a little too destructive - perhaps putting dier as one of a back three and allowing the fullbacks to play more as wing backs plus letting kane and Jansen play up top together could be a good option for them?

................................LLoris.............................
...........Dier..........Alderweireld........Vertongen.....
Walker.................Wanyamma.........................Rose
..........Alli..................................Erikson................
......................Kane...........Jansen.........................

Most of their width comes from fullbacks anyway and this may allow erikson to get on the ball centrally a bit more?

Utd get paid for that at least.

I can't see that happening as Poch doesnt appear to take a pragmatic approach and is very much a systems type manager. Having said that, now we have the option of two up front I guess it could happen but based on what Ive seen so far anytime Janssen and Kane start together, Kane seems to drop back into a number 10 role behind Janssen rather than a traditional 2 up front.

Also we do at times play 3 at the back as our system is fluid with Dier often dropping back into the defence when our full-backs get into attacking positions, so we may get into that shape at certain times in a game.

I don't think Jansen and Kane will play together much in the bigger games, or even against the top 6. They'll be used in games where its more tricky to break down small teams parking the bus.. but beyond that I can see one up top in the Champions League and big league games.

They were.

But this is too.

I think we can both agree to that without having to defend our respective teams marketing teams.

Is Janssen good? How has he been so far? I haven't seen much excitement.

Both utterly embarrassing but yours more embarrassing to a factor of 10 billion.

He looks great, he is very strong and plays with his head up and has already held the ball up well for us and been effective with lay-off's to runners, etc. He looks like he is well suited to Premiership football and he is still young. If he can get a goal then he will be grand, he missed a good chance in the last match and was only stopped from scoring by a top class save in our first match so he is getting in the right areas.

Zaha harks back to the dismal signings Spurs used to make for fun. Woeful player. He's one of those (apparently) streaky players (like Bolasie) that doesn't even have the streaks to justify his inclusion.

Those were sponsored stuff. We got paid for it.

Not sure why this was done unless whatsapp pays them

Always gotta defend beloved Spurs  It wasn't a dig at the club, merely a comment on the post.
Anyway, I agree about the United video, painful to watch. Fortunately I had no hand in the creation of said videos, so I can stand from afar and judge, and I'm sure you'll agree the United videos/Spurs post were both cringe worthy.

Both dreadful - I had my tongue in my cheek when I was talking about the Man Utd stuff, I thought it was hilarious (and incredibly cringy)

I recalled someone also stating that Ali is a better prospect/player than Pogba. I would be surprised if he becomes 3/4th the player Pogba is. Spurs bought poorly this summer. I stated before they needed pace upfront and that assumption has not changed. They should have went for someone like Salah and a faster striker than Janseen, who does not seem to complement Kane so far.

Perhaps Zaha will at least give them something different if they get him.

Who is the worst starting XI player in the top 6 teams? I reckon Lamela. Though I guess Milner at LB and Mignolet also stake a claim.

Ivanovic, Rooney, Henderson or Cahill.

Lamela is a very good player normally.

Must be Rooney's fault Kane and Alli are playing like this.
Gotta sub him off Poch...

Everyone looks very average today, bar the centre backs. They look solid still. Vorm is a great stand in for Lloris.

Eriksen and Coutinho are so frustratingly inconsistent. Neither will ever be world class IMO.

Much like Leicester, Spurs' success last season was primarily built on a remarkable level of stability, cohesion and togetherness in the team that made them significantly greater than the sum of their parts. It was always going to be an incredibly difficult task to repeat that this season. Bringing in Janssen and Wanyama were both good moves but they've inevitably upset the balance of what was an extremely stable team in the short-term. Plus Dembele really is a big miss for them. Not sure whether last season things finally clicked for him or if it was a one-season wonder though. If he can repeat it then they'll become a much more dynamic team instantly.

Kane had 31% pass accuracy today  Makes Rooney's recent performances look world class.

On Spurs... They'll struggle this season I think. They'll need to rotate with CL football, and like Brwned said, their success last season was built on the consistency of putting out the same team every week and getting on a good run and the morale and confidence boost that comes with it. Neither them or Leicester will get anywhere close to repeating last season because they won't be able to do that this year, and they won't have the confidence boost of being at the top because the top teams look to have gotten their shit together. They are a decent side obviously, and can challenge for a top 4 spot, but I reckon they'll be 6th. Their side is just lacking that bit of magic, all solid players with nothing exceptional (or even extra pacy which you need now and then).

Not a bad start from Pochettino's team. Still undefeated and without arguably one of their best and influential player in Dembele. This game does show that they still have a lot of work to do going forward and certainly need a player with pace upfront. I am unsure if Zaha will be the answer, but he is better than sticking with what they have.
