Best shot at the title? We were barely ever in the race at all and quite frankly wouldn't have won it whether we won out or not. If it had been anyone but Leicester no one would have called it a "shot at the title" as they expected them to drop off or something (which they never did). Not only that but it's not like in that Chelsea game we went up 2-0 and decided to kick people for the rest of it. The entire game was feisty and we were trying to score for the full 90, there wasn't some point in time where we just decided not to try and score or something.

The Newcastle game was a shambolic embarrassment that showed some weakness, immaturity, and reliance on some specific players in a very young side, the Chelsea game was not any of that - maybe immaturity, but that's it.

That's not true. After 26 or 27 games there was just 2 points between Spurs and Leicester. If that's not in race then not sure what is.

When there was still a third of the season left and no one thought us or Leicester even had a chance and everyone was saying it was gonna be Arsenal or City? I'm not sure about most fans, but when there's 12 games to go I don't tend to count my chickens.

Although I'm sure Hull City fans will be delighted to know they're in a fight for the title as we speak.

But that still was your best shot at the title in half a lifetime. Which still basically constitutes no shot at all.
And?

I'm sure the way most Spurs fans see it is that was our best shot to this point with a squad of sub 25 year olds. It's not like our team should be suddenly downgrading. We like our chances in the future. ;)

Ridiculous point. After 26-27 games means it's the business end of the season. There was nothing between Leicester and Spurs.

In the last 11 games Spurs won just 4 games. That's when they lost the title. They got just 16 points in the last 11 games.

Spurs were definitely in the title race last season, only a fool would say otherwise, but towards the business end of the season Spurs did what they are historically known for..

Spurs had chances to go above us last season when we dropped points but each time they lost so to say they were never really in the race is rewriting history to try and save face, fact is you bottled the title race, culminating in the collapse and loss of composure Vs Chelsea

I actually agree with you. - I was very disappointed when I saw what happened during the Chelsea match as it showed a lack of maturity and strength of character within the team (understandable I guess given the lack of experience and average age of the team). What I would have much preferred to see was the lads rising above the goading of the Chelsea players and out playing them and then winning the game. That would have been the best way to get back at Chelsea, to get involved in the nonsense that occurred benefitted Chelsea much more than it benefitted us and we totally fell for it.

I really hope the players learn from that and the next time something like that occurs they react like professionals and use the goading as incentive to win the game.
Great post, and I hope for your sake your players do learn from it. I'm looking forward to your next encounter with Chelsea though! :)

There is no and. You were claiming it wasn't your best shot because you were nowhere near. The reality is that it was still your best shot. And remains likely to be in the near future.

Not really true though is it?

You lost only 3 games last year and in ever single instance we won our game for that matchweek.

Leicester 2 - Arsenal 5
Spurs 4 - Manchester City 1

Liverpool 1 - Leicester 0
Spurs 3 - Norwich 0

Arsenal 2 - Leicester 1
Manchester City 1 - Spurs 2

I think you lot deserve more credit for not exactly providing many opportunities to be overtaken. Plus, quite frankly Spurs were never once 1st in the table at all last year. We had maybe one opportunity to overtaken you on a given week and didn't and that was about it for the entire year.

Any chance at the lotto numbers with that?

Spurs are one of the better squads in the league, just surprised they have not looked to significantly improve it. The youngsters cracked under pressure and this followed on into the Euros where most did not do themselves justice.

Like the young Arsenal teams before them, have they got a winning mentality in them? I am not so sure. I still rate them higher than Liverpool, but probably on a par with Chelsea, United, Arsenal and City as far as first 11 go. However, I think only Arsenal lack winners in their current side, so if Spurs are to make the top 4 they will have to finish above Arsenal this year, or the other 3 do not turn up like last year.

some of the posts in this thread are embarrassing. I never ever want United to get to the point that our fans are so afraid of challenging we'd write off us ever being close despite being in the race until a shit end to the season. That's not the kind of mentality any team should have, it won't do Spurs any good this season with that way of thinking.

You can drop points after drawing as well, ya know.

Are you being pruposely obtuse? You were two points behind Leicester with 10 games to go. If you still felt that you didn't have a chance at the title then your team are not only bottlers but are also a bunch of losers.

You don't need to know the future to predict what's likely.

Is it on reduced capacity, down to 50k? I dont think there is any team in europe that will fill a 90k sadium for a CL group game.

Actually I was assuming a reduced capacity, but on checking I don't think that will be the case ... so you are probably right.

But what about trends?

I thought you liked to go back to previous seasons and use them as references in making your point, no?

Spot the difference between sets of 38 games, each set comprising a whole season, and 5 consecutive games split across two seasons. Anything noticeable spring to mind?

Yes, what happened two/three/four seasons ago has even less of a bearing as opposed to what happened a few months ago.

If you seriously believe in the validity of drawing conclusions for this season based on 5 consecutive games - split across two seasons, and when only 2 of these 5 were defeats - then I can't be bothered to discuss it further.

What's the validity of what happened 2/3/4 years ago then, and your head scratching talk of trends?

Go back and read all about it in other threads if you wish. I'm not going to rehash it all again here for your benefit.

I guess our season is over. How can we ever survive only drawing away to Everton in Game 1?
In fairness your season ended when Mourinho and Guardiola signed for United and City.

Ah yes, two cheque-book managers competing to see who can best spend their way to success. May the biggest cheque win. Lol.

There's nothing more entertaining than watching you throw your toys out of the pram. You're a grown man aren't you? Fecking hell, pathetic
