It's not an excuse

So what's the point of spend big on Sissoko if you aren't going to use him? I thought he was supposed to be a backup to cover the midfield's injuries? Might should just keep Tom Carroll for free if you will end up forcing an injured player to play.

They're the Audley Harrison of Premier League teams. Great promise, tipped for greatness... But truth be told it's likely they'll win nothing and be a mere footnote in history.

I have honestly no idea why we signed him.

He was brilliant at the Euro's and I remember being a bit nervous when you guys signed him.

Just saw the result loading up BBC Sport, first thing I see is Kanes droopy face and was like

Last season was a bottle-job, but how is this bottling it?

Did anybody even think they would win every single game until the end of the season?

Some people have very weird expectations. Especially those who seriously thought Chelsea were going to feck it up regardless of Spurs' results.

They do desperately need to win a trophy next season to cement their place in that "next level" everyone thinks they're already at, but there's no doubt they've improved this season.

Next season is going to be massive for them.

Well I'm glad somebody can enjoy it, I feel utterly miserable.

Chelsea were running away with it to be fair, you dared to dream but just wasn't to be. Your in top 4 and will finish ahead of your rivals, so it's not all bad

When I calm down a bit I know I'll look back on this season with pride but also with the sense that it was a lost opportunity for a club that doesn't get many chances to win things so it has been disappointing. I really, really wanted the FA cup this year but it wasn't to be. The title was one step too far for us this season but we had a great chance to win a cup.

It's not a bottle job is it, you cant lose a game without 'bottling it' these days. Spurs are the only team to put up half a fight all season they have nothing to ashamed of.

Spurs are improving every season at the moment, their real problem now is trying to hold onto their best players while constructing a new stadium.

You can't bottle something you were never in a position to win.

Chelsea have always been in control of this title. Spurs for me never looked like winning it.

They've been impressive, won nine games in a row doing their best to catch them but Chelsea have always had them at arms length.

I think Sky/media have tried to make out there was a title race from these two but there never was. It has always been a one team season. Chelsea have been better than everyone comfortably.

I wouldn't swap Spurs' current league position for our Europa League semi position.

I might have done a week ago when the title was still on for them, but right now I prefer where we are. Even though their CL qualification is guaranteed and ours isn't, I think winning the Europa League would be much better than finishing 2nd

Do you feel Eriksen's creative contribution is slightly under-used in games like this?

I felt he should have been playing deeper to a) overcome West Ham's initial high press and b) to make more incisive passes later on when they started defending deep. Tbh the second part started happening once Wanyama was substituted.

Wanyama and Dier in midfield is not good enough against inferior opposition. You guys badly need a regista and a proper winger. Poch needs to develop a plan B for games like this.

Of course it would be and anyone stating otherwise are kidding themselves. Players don't look back on their careers and remember that season they came second and won nothing, they remember the trophies they won.

In a sense you are right as it's a European trophy so I'd agree with what you are saying. Mind you, I would have snapped your hand off for 2nd place in the league at the start of the season.

Yeah maybe, we do lack pace in the front areas I think and that's why the likes of Zaha keeps being linked to us. We have been unlucky with injuries though especially with Lamela and more recently Winks who we have missed.

I'm very much of the belief that trophies are the only important thing in the history of a club.

That said Spurs have far more important things to be concerned with than winning the title or FA Cup. Their short term considerations are purely financial - paying for the stadium is the biggest challenge Spurs have faced in generations and as much as United fans might mock... As much as we'd pay £100m for an FA Cup without blinking... Spurs would accept that offer (and rightly so) without blinking.

The most important thing for Spurs is cash inflow and you've achieved that with Champions league qualification.

The test of Spurs is on a 15 year timeline... Not a 5 year one.

Can't decide whether this will affect Spurs' approach when they play us. Will they have given up by then (depending on other results) and therefore not give it their all and tail off like they did last season, or will the occasion of the last game at their current stadium inspire them to actually give a toss?

Can't help but think of this from a purely United-centric view as I still hold out some mild hope for finishing top 4.

They are the new Ipswich Town. That team was great but won nothing.

You can't be great if you don't win anything. They're easy on the eye, but this exact reason is why I wasn't circle jerking myself into oblivion over this Spurs side like some on this forum were. The way some were going on about them you'd think they were peak Barcelona.

Until they start winning things, how good their football is ultimately means feck all. Also the longer they don't win things, the harder it's gonna become, players looking for step ups etc.

Yeah it's hard to nitpick though with such a good season overall. The team, manager and fans should believe they'll eventually win if they continue in the same vein.

Don't think there will be any mass departures either. There must be the sense of a job still not completed, esp for Pochettino.

I love winning things and we have a chance of winning more this season than they have in 10 years so I'll take our position 100%, if however, we lose the final, I'd obviously feel different!

Kinda reminds me of how we won something like 9-10 games in a row to close the gap a bit on Chelsea in 2005/06, before dropping points at home to bloody Sunderland, who were awful that season. It was disappointing, but we were never likely to win it anyway.

They would've been a point behind us had they beat an awful West Ham side with us having a Boro who are still in with a slim chance to stay up and in desperation mode.

Yeah no doubt. I think Woodward and the investors would swap our EL semi position (+ the 1-0 advantage) for Spurs' 2nd place and guaranteed CL place. But as a fan I believe United will win the EL and it's a more exciting way of doing it. I feel very nervy before the EL games though!

West Ham... A useless team that always fecks up the aspirations of others
I remember that day when Andy Cole missed a bunch of chances to beat them on the final day of the season and seal us a title, and instead it went to Blackburn. Will celebrate if West Ham were to get relegated.

And remember when they stopped us getting top 4 last year... fecking cnut of a club.

They've been pretty solid recently to be fair to them, 4 clean sheets in their last 5 (though that 1 non clean sheet game had them ship 2 goals to fecking Sunderland). I hope they can do us a favour when they face Liverpool.

Really impressed by Tottenham this season. Only team putting up a challenge to Chelski.
United, City, Liverpool, Arsenal are the bottlers

I see the argument for Spurs' position over United's. Tottenham know they're in next seasons CL and will have a very respectable League position, whereas United aren't guaranteed either.

Winning the Europa League definitely matters now though, a European trophy, CL group qualification, a European Super cup match (another possible trophy). It's much more exciting and I'd personally risk a 2nd place finish for a chance of winning it.

Yup. An abiding memory I have of them over the years (not last year) is some bald white guy or other scoring against us and celebrating whilst looking like a racist thug. People like Julian Dicks. There was another year when some other bald white guy scored a couple of headers, I forget his name. I don't know why exactly that annoys me but it does.

This has really gotta be a wake up call to Levy to back Poch with some serious signings. They are so close, but they lack that real star quality, when the chips are down. I said at the start of this season, they've missed a golden opportunity to actually buy some quality this year and walk the league.

From and england perspective, I obviously want Spurs to do well, as half the bloody team is made up of them.

Helped feck us up in 92 as well.
