The Second RedCafe Sheep Draft

Miramontes was on my shortlist for one one of the rounds, though I now can't recall which one.

And I can't submit mine until later tonight. Sorry guys

Stop eyeing my players  :D.

Delighted to have got him. Actually wanted to block Keane/Redondo but didnt want to risk losing him.

Love your team, so don't worry if we are not up against each other - you'll have me fanboying in your corner haha.

Fourth round, 1960/61 season. And yes, I had a look at your shortlists while you were out.

Cheers mate. You've got a cracking team as well. Vasovic is a terrific pick from last round and was absolutely key to how that Ajax team set up.

There was alot of big attacking names which were available but I haven't committed to a formation yet.. so he seemed a great safe pick for now.

OK, What is the general consensus on Ancelotti in middle of a diamond (right or left)? Or is he confined to a midfield 2?

I wouldn't play him there, no. Not pacey or dynamic enough. To me he is the quintessence of a keep-it-tidy-and-ticking central midfielder (more defensive than offensive, clearly). I wouldn't say he's confined to a 2, however: He'd do a tidy job in any set-up, but not in that wide-ish diamond role. The latter simply ain't for him, I'd say.

A midfielder query of my own: Could Veron play the deep lying playmaker role? And could he play in a midfield 2? (lol)

Not preferable in midfield 2. Much better suited in tip of diamond, or top of a midfield 3.

He made his name playing as part of midfield duo though in a 4-4-2 didn't he? I think there is a lot of reasons to not play him in a midfield duo if your opponent is exceptional centrally or you don't have the wide midfielders to pull off a 4-4-2 and need to play with wingers instead.

But if you want to play a 4-4-2 and you have the right players around him then he'd do that role great.

Not for me, he should be an 8 with a player in front and a player covering. He was a genuine box to box midfielder with an unreal range of passing to boot. He plays in central midfield the way Steven Gerrard wishes he could.

He did that. Partnered with a heavy lifter, it should be said.

It depends entirely on who you surround him with. But given the inevitable "midfield battle" nonsense which will be brought up here, he could easily be regarded as too airy if you stick him in the middle with a partner. Look at how he fared when you tried to sell his defensive qualities (was it in the Tevezbola draft?) even in a very moderate way.

He needs protection, in other words. He can play in various set-ups, but he needs others around him to take care of any heavy lifting - even more so than Pirlo and [can't be arsed to check whether he's been drafted so blanking him to be safe], players he resembles in his more DLP-ish incarnation.

Firstly, Veron-Keane will definitely be brought up, especially with Vieira being the other central midfielder in his team.
Secondly, he also has Shankly and Zico in his team. I can see diamonds everywhere  Imo, it should be Zico being the main creative outlet and Veron is best at DLP is that setup.

Tough round this

Would have been a good one to waste getting a keeper
