Is EAP the only one with two sheep? Let's ignore MJJ for now, it's obvious that he's trying to make a living as a shepherd, so he's excused. But somehow I thought we had more managers with 2 sheep.

guys whats your views on Hagi being used as a wide midfielder/winger? does he have to be played as an AM/10 to be rated here?

I'm expecting a lot of sheep this round. I can think of 3-4 players that are at the level you guys are picking, a few more that are a level or two lower, then the rest are pretty much sheep. Extremely lucky that MDFC got Zico, otherwise it would have been a sure block this round!

Mixed reception on that one. I've had him a few times in various guises. I certainly think he can be accommodated out wide, no problem, but you'd have to factor in fit and balance with the players around him.

I agree. It's not like you can't play him in a wide-ish role - that is, after all, precisely the role he had often enough (not least in his younger days). The tricky part is that he isn't very useful to you as a - say - normal wide man.

If the plan is to field a conventional AM/No 10 centrally AND Hagi out wide - I wouldn't be too keen on that. In a more custom made set-up, however, you can easily field Hagi out wide - as long as you describe his role and not let people assume that he's some sort of standard winger.

I just don't think it is worth the risk all things considered. He's a great 10 and I want to keep him there, my only fear is the unpredictable nature of this draft.. I may have no choice but to field him there if certain calibre of players in other positions are not available.

Didn't Hagi play in midfield of a 4-4-2?
Iirc, Aldo did play him wide in 4-3-3 before.
He's played wide plenty of times. Often he shone best with the team built around him, but I'd have few concerns in a modern, fluid 4-2-3-1 for 4-3-3 for instance, subject to fit/balance elsewhere.

That's the problem I have, thinking of him as the type that needs a team built around him as that's what i was always used to seeing. What was the consensus of his performances in his time with barca and real?

I suppose the overall verdict would have to be that he was a bit disappointing when you consider his potential. He never did much of note at either club in terms of winning anything, though I can certainly recall him shining in single matches (for Real, at least - I'm sure he did for Barca too, but I can't testify to that). A bit underwhelming on the whole, especially for Barca, I reckon would be a fair assessment.

But how to interpret this is a different matter. Many undeniably great players have failed to settle at Real and Barca. Unless I'm mistaken the story with Hagi was that he didn't really like it in Spain - it didn't suit him on any level. So, it's hardly surprising he didn't become a grand success. He wasn't an easy person, I think - not the sort who get along with everybody and his dog, so that may certainly have played a part too.

This is the sort of question you can throw out there at the beginning, not at this stage when teams have shaped up significantly.

Sure he can. It just means pretty much every team will have a starter who isn't as great as the rest of his teammates, like most great teams have had.

More than the extensive research required here, the squad tactical decision is eating me alive!

Has Luisito Suárez Miramontes appeared in these drafts before?
I had him once in a draft in the Newbie forum, not saying it will happen, but prepare for some "I'm sorry but I can't bring myself to vote for a player with that name" type posts.

Not to mention the hassle of having to explain time and again that, no, he is not being played out of position.

On that note, probably better to go with "Miramontes (Ballon d' Or winner, not cannibal)" when posting the formation.

@Pat_Mustard remove that name mate. Anyway he didn't play in that final. Doubt they would have been outclassed to such an extent in midfield had he played.

Anyway I'm always going to refer to him in his full name. Shame that such a legend has a twat as his namesake...

Aye, MJJ had him in an all-time draft and I'm sure he's appeared elsewhere as well. Far too good not to have, although lets never forget our old friend Over-Rated Tim getting the better of him in 1967 :D
Feck off.

Whoops, brainfart moment on my part.

Feck off.

 I very nearly tagged you in that post mate! I doubt you want to ever hear that name again. Any chance you could edit the name out of that quote as I named an unpicked player?

Done.
