This is the sort of question you can throw out there at the beginning, not at this stage when teams have shaped up significantly.

Good question. To make it as easy as possible, we go by the football associations and where they belong to right now. So the league/country has to belong to AFC, CAF or OFC. The obvious example, Isreal is part of UEFA, so playing in Israel doesn't count. That way we avoid problems with countries that belong to more than one continent.

I hope @Skizzo agrees with that, but that's the final call here, so that we don't have to wait until he wakes up after his daily 12 hour sleep.

I noticed that he didn't get much love when he played for you - you didn't help him with your non-existent write-up, of course, but still. Quite enjoyed reading about him in Sid Lowe's book, he seems like a blend of Best and a certain Frenchman.

Yeah, my job at the time killed me in a lot of the games in terms of write up. That has changed now though thankfully :)

Again, the status of the confederations today counts. I don't care how it was back when the chosen player was active. To avoid crazy complicated discussions about countries that split up, changed leagues, countries, continents, whatever, we're going by what is today.

If your player played in the 40's at a club (if the club doesn't exist anymore, we go by the city) that was part of Asia back then, but belongs to UEFA today, he's not eligible this round. (totally random example here, no idea if such a case exists).
