The relative strength of the Premier League

Too soon to call yet, but don't know if it will be the first time 5 clubs from the same country will reach the last 8. Can't see wich team will be eliminated, certainly not City or Spurs based in today's performances.

Chelsea won't get past Barca.

Barca will probably walkover Chelsea with relative ease. Should see at least three go through though, probably four.

Those are the sort of games Chelsea get battered for 180 minutes and somehow squeeze through.

Hopefully Liverpool will crash out vs Porto.

I think it’s one season too soon for England. While 3 or 4 English teams will make it through to the quarter finals, I can only see City making a real push for the title.

If the English teams continue to buy big, I think we can expect City plus one giving it a real go next year.

City are as good as any team in Europe. Spurs and Liverpool are capable of giving any of them a beating too.

I don't include United in that because we absolutely suck ass against the better teams.

We will see, don't underestimate Chelsea. The strenght of the Premier league is insane at the moment

Not at the moment, been shocking lately (except for last night against by far the worst team in the league). There's a chance they'll scrape through but I'd give Porto/Sevilla a better chance at causing an upset than Chelsea.

Chelsea?

The PL is definitely stronger than it has been for a good 5/6 years, maybe more.

Sadly I think City, Spurs and Liverpool are a more dangerous outfit in the CL than we are right now, even if they're not necessarily better (City are obviously).

Another outstanding big game from Spurs tonight - 4 pretty dominant performances against United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Juve. No mean feat.

Missed that one, probably the only one who isn't favourite, but even if it is 4, is a vast improvement compared with the last seasons.

Is not about the strength, is about the work Pochettino is doing.
They battered Juventus

Same. Liverpool are big favourites but i think Porto will give them a decent fight. Sérgio Conceição is a good manager and Porto is a strong team physically. They will miss Danilo though but i'm expecting Porto to get a good result at home and eventually capitulate at Liverpool (like in the Bayern tie from two years ago).

Aye, definitely a lot closer to the 2000s era with multiple English teams doing well. Can only be good though - CL has been too Barca/Madrid dominated in recent years so more teams coming into the fold again is good fun.

Aye, it's hard to tell with Liverpool. They've got the attacking power to beat just about any top side on their day, but their defensive weaknesses mean a well-organised and decent opponent like Porto could have a chance at knocking them out. If they cope with Salah they've got a reasonable chance.

It's a great advertising for the EPL that Spurs are 5th now. Crazy that City are 20 pts above them.

Porto only has a chance if they win tomorrow, they never won a game in England even when they had better teams.

They also miss Danilo, but they have a good manager, Conceição. Sevilla's defense looks a Swiss cheese, don't get me wrong but Eibar and Spartak this season have scored 4 or 5 goals against them, sacked their manager, and the current one is Montella who replaced Berizzo.

If Mourinho is not able to beat Sevilla in 2 legs he just should retire and go to Algarve to learn philosophy with LVG.

Weirdly I think Chelsea will actually get past Barca. Conte is v clever tactically and they'll all up their game for the CL. I know they're massive underdogs but I think they'll get something at the bridge.

Sad to say it but I think we're in the most danger of going out. Sevilla are a good team, tonnes of European experience and we're all massively underrating them thinking we'll go through without to much fuss.

This is the worst Sevilla from the last 10 or more seasons.

It's certainly better than it's been recently.

I just wish we were better equipped to do some damage.

What? :)

Conte has done nothing in the CL and Chelsea have lost 2 out of the last 3 games. You'll need luck. A lot of it.

They must be hoping for divine intervention like in 2012.

The flukiest CL tie win ever.

Regardless what the Premier League table says, United are the weakest out of the 5 English teams in the Champions League in my opinion or should i say the least capable team to beat another European giant.

I think most of us here know United wouldn't have come back from 2-0 down vs Juventus away from home like Spurs did today if we are being honest, whereas Liverpool/City and possibly Chelsea could have.

They're just inconsistent - they got hammered by Eibar but also beat Atleti over two legs (in both legs I think). Still a decent side and it's not like we are scoring tonnes of goals at the moment. Will be tight

Sadly I agree. I wouldn't fancy us again't any of the likely winners of the round of 16 games at all.
But things can change quickly in football, hopefully we can start picking up some form...

Final conclusion is the massive investment on top managers and players is having effect, I received a lot of stick sometimes when I said the Premier League could not be sold as the best in the world when you had Leicester winning the league like they played, credits to them, but the same Leicester team today would struggle to make top 4 imo.

When was the last time we came back from 0-2 down against any team?

To be fair, no team has come back from a 2-0 lead against Juventus in Turin since we stopped finishing 7th (2011). It would be rare for any team to do that away, at this stage and against such opposition.

It's interesting. We could see 4 or 5 English teams in the last 8 but with City being the only team who looks a proper contender is it really that strong? City are far and away better than every other team in the league and are having a freak season. Once the competition reaches the last 8 they're the only English side I see doing damage against the likes of Bayern, Barca, PSG etc.

Looking at the last 16 though, City and Liverpool are heavy favourites to go through, Spurs have a real shot with 2 away goals and the return leg at home where they've been good in Europe. As for us, we have the individual quality to beat Sevilla but they aren't chumps and our performances lately have been concerning. If we play them the same way we did Spurs and Newcastle we will be in trouble. Chelsea got a rough draw, Barca are probably the best team in the world this season but it is a cup competition so I won't write them off yet
