The Referee Enabled Shithousery of Spanish Teams

It's that kind of pen where it's only given if the ref really, really wants to give a pen for one reason or another.

I think it's a foul but also a dive. You can't grab his arm there. It's stupid. But if he didn't dive to the ground the foul isn't given

Like maybe if a manager repeatedly moaned his team didn't get 2 or 3 penalties in the first leg?

One particular foul against Kessi in midfield stood out. He contested a 50/50 with lots of contact, and right in the middle of a run towards the ball he realized he wasn't getting to it first and went down like he'd taken an imaginary knee to the back. Ref gave it, of course. Absolute shambles out there - pretty sure Barca have bought out this wanker as well. Hard tackles going unstopped against us, and all they have to do is collapse and the whistle goes.

Soft as shite and especially so given the fouls that he hasn't given elsewhere on the pitch. Knew as soon as I saw the git. Shite ref.

Come on lads, seriously blaming conspiracies and bent refs? Bruno shouldn’t have allowed him to make that decision in the first place. Blame our captain. It’s one which are always 50/50, if given or not, VAR won’t overturn it because Bruno was “naive”. And he pulls him against his momentum ffs.

It pains me to say this but I think it a pen and totally idiotic from Bruno to do that.

Usually the logic given for penalties is that if it happened anywhere else on the pitch it’s a foul. This one would probably not even be a foul in the other areas of the pitch

I both blame Bruno and blame the ref for a poor decision.

I’m baffled that anyone thinks that was a penalty. Nothing in it, it happens 100 times a game. Martinez did one similar or worse towards the end of the half and that wasn’t given or even talked about.

No way, it’s so damn soft. Never a pen.

I think it's soft too and I understand the controversy, but I also believe it's enough for Bruno to make the player in movement fall. I guess the way the Barcelona player falls down does not seem forced, which also helps the referee take the decision.

I though the same in real-time and on first replays. Then they were showing more angles at half time, there’s an angle up closer from behind the Barca player (you see his front when he turns out around) where you see it properly, it’s complete simulation, he places his hand on him and nothing more.
Doesn’t mean I don’t think Bruno’s a fecking idiot, mind.

Hate to see all this time wasting, 100% nothing wrong with either Rashford or Garnacho.

This ref didn't get the memo.

What a nice change to see a ref just telling both sides to get up.

Another chapter being written tonight. The surrounding of him after everything he does is ridiculous.

And in return he gives them ridiculous decisions.

Laughable yellow card for Pellistri but to be fair to him, he's not falling for the Betis players trying to win free-kicks so far.

The crowd doing the refereeing currently

I’m just super happy that all eleven of them are still alive. Looks like they’re suffering so much :(

Broader question but when has standing in front of free kicks and not allowing the opposition to take it without their say so become accepted in the game?
