Just watched the Godfather II, what an incredible movie

I love that movie. But you're right, I bet even the makers of that film would be surprised by its inclusion.

I dont think Im going to get round to putting them in order. If you cant use this list then dont.

If you're not gonna bother you might as well delete the list before it inadvertantly gets included in the count as is.

PS. You lazy fecker :smirk:

what, we're doing points for the position or something?

I thought we were just going to debate the relative merits of peoples' choices?

Ill try and find a gap in my busy schedule to put them in some order but im not promising anything.

Keep up at the back Simon :smirk:

The whole point is to come up with a definative Redcafe top 100 list.

would it help the counter if i created a thread with just the lists in it? no-one should add additional comments to the thread, in fact i could even lock it

Only problem is that we can't edit our lists now.

good point. OK, ive only copied across up to page 3. I've edited my own list, any of the others who i have copied across need to tell me if there are any updates on their list in the next few days and ill change the other post accordingly

Interesting list Geebs, especially your number one.

Maybe you should post your list in here too for discussions sake.

its on page 3...

I dont think its any great surprise to see Return of the Jedi at number 1

I mean its got everything, and all on a budget too. They used potatoes as asteroids! I mean spuds ffs. In fact Lucas annoyed them so much with reshoots that someone chucked a shoe in as asteroid too!

The film that really launched Harrison Ford imho

Is anyone watching AFI's top 100 on Channel 4?

Pulp Fiction 94th, Goodfellas 92nd!!?!

Not to mention Blade Runner, Shawshank Redemption and Unforgiven being far too low.

100 seems like a wildly arbitrary figure so I decided on the far more sensible 176.

There are a couple old school cheesy kung fu films in there, which I guess are an acquired taste (specifically no.41 and no.51).

I've downloaded Harakiri, Shotgun. How does it compare with Kurosawa's stuff? and have you seen Kaidan??

It's different. A bit more emotionally loaded, less action, more talking and it doesn't attempt to portray samurai as ubermensch in the same way as Kurosawa did.

I've also got a trilogy of films called Human Condition by Kobayashi. I haven't watched it yet, but if you enjoy Harakiri you might want to try those. I've heard good things about 'em.

I haven't seen Kaidan yet. Might track it down when I get a chance.

Shotgun Rebellion's meant to be good as well. You must to check out Kwaidan by Kobayashi, Shotgun. Stunning piece of work.

I might have seen Samurai's Rebellion already. I've watched so many B/W samurai movies that they all begin to blend into one after a while.

I tried to include the ones that left a lasting impression on me, but I'm older and wiser now so it might be worth rewatching some of the films I was introduced to in my teens. That and Kaidan are a couple I can add to my list. Cheers Spoony.

It took me ages to get from 400-odd down to 176, and then a load of excel wizardry to put them into some kind of order. As a compromise I'll leave the last 76 up there in diminutive form for my own sanity as well as for the Caf's blind eunuchs to read and possibly discuss. I'll only be submitting my top 100 as it stands of course.

Here you go then. Though I may watch Amadeus before sleeping tonight, so the list could change. Infact I will keep watching some till the deadline and changing it....

I thought it was a bit weak IMO.
But maybe because I thought the book was much better.

It was very average.

and it depends Reelworld. Are you going to stick American History X, Forrest Gump or Requiem for a Dream in it???????? They spoil Crappy's otherwise decent list.
