The Redcafe Top 100 movies

Have we established what happens after all the lists are in and I've counted up the total for each film? Is that it or do I pick out the 100 with the most votes...going to be a bit tricky if there are loads with a single vote each.

Weighting should go to which place they're ordered in. I don;t know, I thought you had it sussed out?

I'll wait until they are all in and I'm sure there will be a 'natural selection'...perhaps asking the submitting members to nominate a certain number of films from their lists which might only have a single nomination to be included in the final reckoning.

Does that make sense?

I was thinking a film that's placed in 1st would get say 50 pts. This way if everyone has Godfather as their no 1, then it'd be 1st on the overall list, rather than the amount of votes each film gets. Imagine if say The Village gets 12 votes but it's always placed at 100th , yet The Godfather gets 10 yet they're all number 1, we then can't have The Village higher than the Godfather. I think you have to devise a points system.

1 point for the top film
100 points for the lowest

film with least points wins.

Its a no brainer ;)
Has to be opposite. 100 for no.1 and one with the most points is the highest.
Otherwise movies not making someone lists gets 0 points which helps them to be ranked higher in the end.

That is correct, unless you list all the films voted for and then do the final vote for order of preference.

So list the 200 that all have nominated, and then you vote on the top 100 out of that 200 ;)

Are you volunteering to organise all that?

Il happily do it one night at work when Im on nights as I have very little else to do.

Put the deadline for nominations in place and il sort the finalists.

You can then vote your top 100 out of the final list.

I will then count up the votes on another night shift and reveal the winner.

You know what took me the longest? Finding even 70-80 really good movies.

The rest are just one's I personally like.

For those who are still working on their lists - watch Heavenly Creatures, Breaking the Waves, Gegen die Wand and Rane (Wounds).

I wish I had place for Rane and Gegen die Wand

I think you may just have a few places in your list.

I think I have found an apprentice! This was going to be my job (with the unknowing help of some of my students), but I'm more than happy to pass over the responsibility.

Spoons...you okay with that?

OK. Deadline is the 5th January(and no later!!!). I'll PM you Mr Burns, when we've got the majority of the lists.

Nice one Spoons...when I go back after Christmas I'm entering the busiest time of the academic year for me, so having someone else do this would be a big weight off my mind...never like to let anyone down, so would have done it having volunteered in the first place, but Mr Burns seems to have it sussed.

Will now put my list into order of preference.

good man :)

Spooney... If you're including animation surely Shrek should get a mention. Also, what about documentary movies such as American Zeitgeist, night and fog and my flesh and blood? Just a suggestion like..

Shrek's not good enough to make my list, Kiwi. I've got The Jungle Book, Snow White, Spirited Away and Toy Story(1&2). I think they're the cream of the crop.

Not seen those docs.

Ok that's cool mate, at the end of the day it's personal preference. I would attempt to make a list myself except I haven't nearly seen enough foreign films for it to be fair and I'm going away this afternoon.

Just saw On the waterfront. Class movie but somewhat ruined by the fact I had seen the Hindi remake of it.

There's a Hindi remake of this? Does it have the 'contender' speech?
Yeah kinda. That movie was good as well but doesn't touch Waterfront. It's not a remake really, they just stole the basic premise and changed the setting. In addition added some rubbish sequences. For example they show the fight he has to throw.

Mr Burns idea is a a long route one. First we list our top 100 movies and he compiles the list of all 100 movies listed. And then we vote again on them?

Better to do it with weights.
