Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Just saw

VICTORIA
One City. One Night. One Take.

It was brilliant. Never saw anything like this. Even Birdman was something else, not so realistic, not so authentic, Victoria is like its just happening outside.
It is shot in one take, over 2 hours you are drown into the plot. You just follow Victoria and the others in the night to the dawn.

Wanted to watch this but then forgot about it until I read your post. Will be watching it tonight, thanks

Suicide Squad

Totally lame and cringeworthy. Plot has more holes than swiss cheese, dialogues are contrived and overall one of the worst comic movies I can remember. Climax is just so lame that even a meh would be a grand appreciation! Margot Robbie as the Harleen is  (and just lame as Harley Q)

Rating: 3/10

Jason Bourne

Watered down and lamer version of the book and earlier movies. Plot doesn't make sense, they way characters play out doesn't make any kind of sense. Rubbish. Movie is just one big chase scene with ragtag story line that borders on pure nonsense.

If you want any kind of decent Bourne experience, just read the book. Absolutely incredible character and story ruined by cinema.

Rating: 4/10.

Do you like the first three?

So so. None holds a candle to the book. But I still rate earlier 3 movies better than this.
I loved the first three movies but I've not read the books and built up the pictures of the protagonists in my head.
I do have low to middling expectations for this new one tbh, despite it being Damon/Greengrass.

I'm told the Joker is barely in it?

If you are thinking of Joker in TDKR, then you'll be disappointed. He's just weird and comes appears guns blazing in a couple of scenes and weird acting in some others. Comes across like a trigger happy mafia henchman than a evil honcho. His scenes just hang there with no background, no link to movie plot and overall useless.

Jason Bourne - I really liked it, nowhere near as bad as some reviews suggest. I was listening to a review on the way home, and it spent 10 minutes moaning about how the movie didn't explain what kind of social media company Riz Ahmed's thing was... despite the fact that it really didn't matter at all and would have just been pointless exposition had they explained it.

Now it's not as good as the previous three, and it is overly similar at times, but it's in no way bad, and there's enough fun set peices, action and intrigue to carry the movie.

Damon steps back into the role effortlesly, and Vikander and Jones were great additions to the cast... especially Vikander, who was excellent.

Overall I'd say this was a welcome return to the franchise, and I would happily see more.

For some reason I am so glad this movie is getting bad reviews here.

Finding Dory - Was enjoyable and very watchable throughout. Not as good as Nemo but it was entertaining and had a solid story. 7/10

Pete's Dragon - Just seen a preview of this tonight. Not seen the first one and didn't know this was a remake until a couple of days ago. I recommend this highly, was a very fun film and one of the better children's movies I've seen in the last couple years. 8/10

Saw Jason Bourne this evening, which could also have just been called Grumpy men and Alicia Vikander. Wonder whether Cassel or Jones is the grumpiest. They do like their car chases in that franchise, don't they? They bore me to death without fault, and this was no different. Also, the shaky camera, urgh. It got old about 5mns after its introduction 15 years ago, it's still as bad now, just try filming a scene without giving the impression the cameraman has Parkinson's.

But I actually liked it, well it was entertaining I guess, not original at all compared to the others (I mean the whole intro to the film is Bourne Supremacy all over again), but it works pretty well and remains watchable throughout. I would like them being a bit more adventurous in the next one, if there is a next one, because I have the feeling they're playing it too safe, but I guess if it's working for them at the box office, they have no reason to change a winning recipe.

Yeah I'd largely agree with your assessment. Quite safe and more of the same, but it's still an enjoyable watch and the intrigue is decent enough as well.

I can't think of any redeeming feature in Jason Bourne tbh. It's just a B grade action movie.
That's a bit harsh. I felt the original trilogy, with its timing, was incredibly relevent with regards to the Bush administration, the war on terrorism, Guantanamo, etc. The latest one tried to do the same thing with the privacy aspect and cyber surveillance, but it didn't quite click I feel.

I really didn't get the whole Deep Dream thingy as it was a separate storyline that has no relevance to Bourne..kinda forced together in same movie for whatever reason.

Also the movie is just one long chase, starts with a bike and ends in a car/truck with some scenes thrown in between.

The fact that Bourne uses a CIA passport and trust Lee to update his entry into US is frankly beyond belief. He's been chased and hiding all along from the CIA who just killed his girl friend...and he suddenly trusts Lee with his fake immigration?

Lee calls Dewey old fashioned...after he appears in a cyber conference trying to get a backdoor into a sophisticated new program. If that's not new fashioned, what is?

Also don't get why/how Lee suddenly turns up to kill Dewey. Very convenient, I should say.

Demonlover - A techno-thriller very much of it's time, the themes of desensitization to violence and pornography felt a bit dated and although I felt pretty indifferent to the film, I did like the airy feel, the aesthetics and Connie Nielsen was wonderful to look at.

My Dinner With Andre (1981) - Have had this for ages and stuck it on last night, two guys meet for dinner in a restaurant and chat about the meaning of life, thats it basically. Its mind blowingly brilliant. 8.5/10

So, anyone seen the new Star Trek movie? Rumour has it that it can be acquired online now, but with hardcoded Chinese subs. Just wondering if the movie is good enough to rush watching it in less than stellar quality?

File name? I'd hate to report the wrong torrent.

Funny Games (2007) - I'm not sure what to rate this film. I think it was good....I think...what I do know is that it disturbed the feck out of me for some reason. I wouldn't watch it again.

Thanks. Evil doers beware. Wibble in the case.

I downloaded it yesterday just for reporting and quality assurance, and I won't recommend it if you're not a giant Trekkie. I just gave it a 2-3 minute watch and the sound and picture was awful. I was led astray by the screenshots.

One of the scariest movies ive ever watched!! Haneke is always worth a try.
Edit: the "not so thin" actor was one of the best german actors for me. Its a pity, he was found dead some month ago, too much different drugs or something like this.

Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words - Fairly comprehensive documentary. It had a lot in common with the Marlon Brando documentary Listen to Me Marlon i.e actor narrating their own documentary, lots of great footage, lovely score (this one by Michael Nyman). Not as impressionistic but just as intimate. Add Amy to the mix and there's been a lot of good intimate star biopics in the recent times.

Summer Camp
4 Friends who are counsellors at a summer camp are under threat from a virus that turns people into flesh eating zombies. Not very good. Most of the characters were too annoying, making it hard to root for anyone and a lot of the 'horror' moments felt comedic. Was pretty bored watching it although the two female leads were quite hot and the ending was ok 4/10

I watched the American remake....I'm sure the German original was much better and more disturbing.

The original is actually Austrian and it's literally the same movie so it doesn't really matter which one you watch.

Nice guys

Downloaded this movie and it was possibly the worst comedy I've seen all year.
Shit plot and very unfunny.

The weird thing is how highly it was rated by rotten tomatoes.
I found ghostbusters way funnier.

Sounds like a zombie version of Cabin Fever ?
