Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Surprisingly Stallone is a good script writer. And people slag Rambo as a mindless american masochism movie, but they forgot that circa 90 most of the world knew what "Rambo" means.
He's a very smart man, he's just not a funny one and in his height of fame he managed to get a lot of undeserved writing credits. Did you know that because he changed the story so much for the movie Cobra (for the better in his opinion) that he wanted his name as a co-author on the book when it got reprinted.

Buried (2010)

That was one of the most gut-wrenching films I've seen in a long time. The tension was brilliant and the claustrophobic feel was like nothing I've felt before in a film.

Great to see Ryan Reynolds in a serious role too, he was fantastic.

8/10

Yeah, agree. Gripping film

Cobra was terrible in that it was so terrible it was good. I went to the cinema with all my mates to watch it and we thought it was shite. Luckily it was only a quid for a ticket.

Just saw Ghostbusters. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't really good either. Kate McKinnon needs to be reined in more. She was just getting annoying and how did she find time to build all the amazing stuff? She did the Limousine remodel overnight, it seems.

It was brilliant. Never saw anything like this. Even Birdman was something else, not so realistic, not so authentic, Victoria is like its just happening outside.
It is shot in one take, over 2 hours you are drown into the plot. You just follow Victoria and the others in the night to the dawn.

Jason Bourne

Was alright. Just seemed to be lacking something. Probably the most forgettable of the lot.

I'd definitely have the Renner one down as being the most forgettable.

It's probably more memorable simply because it was a different actor

Maybe...although I feel like the most memorable thing about it is how dull it was. This one had some alright moments, thought it was closer to the originals than to the 4th.

Yeah. I like Bourne because it is more exciting than Bond. I don't want wisecracks from my secret agents. But, although this had fight scenes, car chases, carnage galore, it just didn't grip me like the other Matt Damon ones. It was missing something. I don't know what, I just didn't leave the cinema going "that was brilliant" like I did with the first two.

Everybody Wants Some!!

Despite the extremely annoying double exclamation mark, a very good Linklater film. Much cheerier and more comedic than Boyhood was, and kind of the college equivalent to Dazed and Confused. I think I might have preferred this to the latter though since it sort of felt more focused. Well worth a watch.

8.5/10

I just watched 'The counsulor'. On very few occasions in my life have I regretted watching a movie so much. Not only is the acting pretty weak despite its big-name cast but it actually really upset me in parts which is a strange feeling for me. Anyways i'm feeling really depressed right now, wouldn't recommend for anyone to watch it is all I really wanted to say..

-2/10

Independence Day Resurgence - 7/10

I wasn't expecting much based on the reviews, but I really enjoyed it. I think it suffered from the hype and build up. Its a silly film, with stupid dialogue, bad acting and is generally ridiculous, but it made me laugh.

Watched Jason Bourne. Worth a watch. I think they might do like another trilogy or some sorts from the looks of it. Greengrass is so much better than the other idiot who directed the one with Renner. Green grass is just class. And good choice with Alicia Vikander. She is just

She looks like Neve Campbell from Scream

My favourite film of the year.

Traffic(2000) - Great film with really compelling storylines. I think it offers a different socio-political perspective on the whole drug war issue. Benicio Del Toro and Catherine Zeta Jones stand out with incredible performances. I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it. 7/10

Was she the wife of the guy who gets arrested? That was terrifying!

Punch Drunk Love - I really enjoyed an Adam Sandler movie. In fact, I thought Adam Sandler was excellent in an Adam Sandler movie. Now I'm too scared to sleep. :(

The Thing (2011)

Not as good as Carpenter's but still an enjoyable film. I think anyone who loves the original would like the prequel.

7/10

Oh man, they remade it? Who's in the Kurt Russell role?

Kill Your Friends - didn't know much about this film but it's a dark comedy about the music industry. Though it was pretty entertaining, Nicholas Hoult was good in it.

7/10

It's not a remake but a prequel, I quite like it.
I love the original. Even if it is a prequel, I've had that many letdowns-eg Robocop, Total Recall...Will defo watch though.

As long as you don't go in expecting it to be on a similar level to Carpenter's you'll enjoy it. Its IMDb rating of 6.2 is far lower than it deserves.

I was disappointed with The Thing prequel. Perhaps since I absolutely fecking worship the Carpenter one.

His finest work along with They live! and Big trouble in little China.

Has it been on Sky yet?

Suicide Squad - 6/10

Decent entertainment but dumb plot with too many holes, terrible casting and look for the Joker and dumbing down of Killer Croc. I liked Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn though.

Yeah, this was quite good until you start getting to the ending . . .

. . . *** Spoiler alert ***

. . .
It was almost as if some artless, mouth breathing Hollywood suit came along and told the director, "look, enough of this subtle, poetic, very relatable film, and yer gonna have to add a blond nazi-ish villain, and I want gun play, a police chase, someone getting shot, a very unbelievable dramatic hostage schtick, and a hokey, melodramatic sad ending where the heroine walks away with a I-just-been-through-hell blank look on the face."

They took what was such a great movie and turned it into complete bollocks. I hate it when they feel like they have to add all this hollywood crap in order to appeal to the trained masses with a dubious, overwrought sense of the dramatics. This could´ve been so, so much better had it headed off in a very different, yet bleak direction. What a waste!

Suicide Squad
What a mess of a film. You can clearly tell where the re-cuts took place, the film was edited poorly and a lot of the humour and characterisation was forced... The soundtrack was all over the place, the Joker sections added nothing to the plot and were actually distracting. Will Smith, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis and Margot Robbie were good though and there were some funny moments here and there. The villain was abysmal. Didn't hate it but didn't love it either 6/10

Finding Dory
This is a good animated film but compared to Pixar's list of great films, this doesnt quite stand up. Feels very similar to Finding Nemo, but with less danger and is less memorable (pun not intended). Every sticky situation is cleared in a consequential way, which is a pet peeve of mine. But the story and moral of the film was spot on and has some heart warming moments. Worth a watch 7.5/10

Yeah it's 'just' enjoyable and quite forgettable. Pixar standards are quite high though, no shame in not reaching them each time.

I saw Bad Moms at the pictures the other day. Silly, mindless fun, perfect for a Saturday night late showing after a few beers. Very forgettable as well, but not a bad watch.
