Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

The Cabin in the Woods

It is good, but very strange. If you are hoping for answers at the end you will be disappointed. Clever movie, but I can't go into even semi detail about the plot without ruining it.

It's definitely worth watching.

No answers apart from everything laid out on a plate and explained in fine detail. What the Architect did for The Matrix Sigourney Weaver basically did for this film

Anyways, this movie throws quite a few genres together and ends up with a cross between The Evil Dead and Lost. It's got a fun mix of serious horror and tongue in cheek, I don't know how much of it Whedon was involved in but it seemed to have his staple humour in it. Really enjoyed this one so 8.5/10

Come on mate... what didn't it answer for you?
How the feck did they build something that huge underground without anyone noticing? Where did they find the huge number of various monsters? Where did the force field come from? The weed baked clown is good as new after being stabbed in the back? Etc etc etc...

Urgh... this annoys the shit out of me. You see the most important question of all... the ONLY question that matters is why the feck they do it. How can you nickpick about the architecture of the base??

There's never enough answers eh? :smirk:

Oh by the way, who says no-one noticed. Seems to be a government type world wide operation here. The monsters would come from 'the old times' hence why that girl said 'These are the stuff nightmares came from'. Where did the force field come from? It was built. Why was the guy good after been stabbed? Standard fecking plot device lol. I don't know what you expect

God my post sounds like a dick but I can't be arsed to edit it. Apologies. The constant 'Why why why' that people want from movies is a massive pet peeve of mine.

I already know the answer to that question. I don't know the answer to the other questions I asked. From what you have written in spoilers, we have that in common.

Yeah, but those are completely inconsequential nitpicks. Your review 'If you are looking for answers you will be disappointed' is a bit misleading since the ultimate question is revealed. Maybe if you said 'If you are looking for answers to every fine detail that could not be put into the script without seeming completely convoluted' it would of been more accurate!

It's fine. I just like to know these things.

It didn't ruin the movie for me, or anything like that.

I am a big nitpicker.

Fargo.

I absolutely loved it, was laughing at the dialogue the whole way through. Most of you lot have probably seen it but if you haven't, watch it.

The Guard.

Good enough, worth a watch. Not in the same league as In Bruges though.

Battleship

Tame as feck pile of shite, shiteness masked by lots of explosions, America feck yeah, Rhianna, aliens, battleships the pen and paper game, don't see anybody dying like in the A-Team, no swearing, utter wank.

My review. 4/17

Was there really any need to repeat yourself?

Very clever, and very bold. I was lucky enough to be with a great theatre crowd, most of them pot users i reckon :p

I'd imagine Battleship to be a whole £100m exercise in getting Liam Neeson or Rhianna to say "you sunk my battleship" At which point loads of cretinous idiots will whoop, Michael Bay will ejaculate and whatever credibility was still left in Hollywood will ebb away like the sap from a dying tree.

I totally buy Rihanna as an officer on a battleship. Inspired casting. No doubt she spent 15 months at sea with a bunch of Navy Seals getting into shape and is probably now more qualified to work in the Navy than anyone that already works for them.

Yeah totally, I heard the sequel will star Rowan Atkinson fighting off Aliens in a motorised wingsuit.

Shame

The most ridiculous movie I've seen in recent times. The title couldn't have been chosen any better, it's a damn shame I lost almost 2 hours of my life watching this steamy pile of horseshit. This movie tries to be smart but fails miserably. Holywoods coming man Michael Fassbender has a rapey look in his eyes throughout the entire film, and acts like he's been molested by an army of drunken sailors. Oh and take coming man very literally, the guy tries to hump everything that has a heartbeat and is wanking throughout this whole sick perverted joke of a film. Expected so much more from a movie with him in it, don't waste your time.

Your carers shouldn't allow you to review movies.

:nono: She's the alien infiltrator, obviously.

Alien v Predator Requiem
Watched if tonight knowing what to expect and it as worse than that.
Story was predictable , acting was Ok I guess given the script
I have seen worst and it did pass some time on a night shift

3/10

MI: Ghost Protocol:
Decent enough popcorn flick really, not much more than that.

Godzilla (1954 original):
Quite dark and moody. The soundtrack adds to that. I've recently, ahem, aquired a nice collection of old school science-fiction movies and I decided to start with Godzilla, and it was actually better than I expected. It's way better than the 1998 mess. It's much more than just a silly B-movie monster flick.

Dracula (1931):
Aka Bela Lugosi staring scarily at you for 1 hour. Watched this last night on recommendation and it's sparkled my interest for older horror movies. Bela Lugosi and Dwight Frye are great, it's got great atmosphere and scenery. Being one of the first horror films after the silent-film era it has very little sound when the dialogue isn't playing, but that only adds to it in this case.

Mean Machine:
I don't know why I bothered to watch this, basicly a football adaption of the longest yard starring Vinnie Jones & Danny Dyer among others, that alone should make anyone stay away. I expected it to be shit, but it was worse than that. Shit has far more redeeming qualities than this pile of turd.

Plan on watching a couple of films later today, not sure which yet though. Might just make it a small Ed Woodathon and watch the biopic and afterwards his masterpiece Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Watched it and reviewed it about a page back, its a good movie that probably mostly went over your head.

I'm not much into this faux pseudo intellectual drama bullshit, but each to their own I guess. Oh and gone over my head eh? Come on man, I've seen porn movies with a more interesting script than this. They threw in a spectacular amount of tits to make up for the lack of a storyline, it's like a soft porn film gone very wrong with a cast plucked straight from a mental hospital. I was honestly amazed that the movie didn't end with him gangbanging his own sister with the help of some other familymembers, that would have put the icing on the cake.

We Bought A Zoo:
Quite a nice movie based on a real life story but in the movie it is set in the US rather than Devon in England where the real zoo is. For the entertainment value and also Scarlet Johansson , i will give it a 7/10

I watched The Endless Summer, which is a documentary from the 60s about two guys who went around the world looking for summer and surfing. They go from California to Africa(Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa) to Australia and New Zealand before finishing in Hawaii. It's a great documentary. There's some humor in addition to the information. Also some casual racism.

8/10

Cabin In the Woods

It was certainly different, at times quite interesting... and had some decent ideas, but I think a lot of it was poorly executed. I also wasn't a huge final reveal... and on the whole, I just think I expect a bit more from Whedon.

Worth a watch if you're after something more then just a standard horror though.

5/10

I love this film. It always gets me excited for summer.

King of California A decent little quirky film with Michael Douglas as a bipolar in search of lost treasure and trying to fix his difficult relationship with his daughter played by the sexyEvan Rachel Wood.

Monkey Business Not a great comedy, a scientist accidentally discovers a formula that makes you feel and act young again, he tests it on himself and the mad happenings happen. Possibly has aged badly because of the many imitations but not even Cary Grant or Marilyn Monroe could save it for me.

A streetcar named desire First off Marlon Brando is as good as he has been billed. The film itself is a great story of heartbreak and madness and how we cope with all of life's rejections and expectations.

From Here to Eternity Wasn't all that enamoured with the Burt Lancaster romance arc but I really liked the rest of the film. Montgomery Clift honey was charismatic as hell in his role as the put upon soldier Prewitt and Frank Sinatra is pure class in his supporting role as the doomed Angelo. Epic finale too.
