Yes this is one movie you just have to watch in a theatre.

True Grit

I had such high hopes for this movie.

Good solid performances from all especially Jeff Bridges and the girl who was actually very compelling, Matt Damon was almost a peripheral character which was a bit disappointing - his character could have added so much more, and Josh Brolin was basically a cameo performance. There isn't really anything I can say like "Oh, I wish this or that had of been done differently".... but there was just something lacking or missing that I can't put my finger on.

All in all, well made and executed with strong acting performances from everyone, a simple story done well but probably not better than John Waynes original, expected something more dynamic from the Coens 7.5/10

I did, mainly because a friend of mine had a very small role in it.

IMO, it's one of the most detailed and enthralling political dramatic thrillers ever produced.
 
Carlos is a superb mini series.

Also, yeah I got the Black Swan dvdscr, but I just couldn't put myself through, quality is ok if you haven't upgraded to blu and shit, but I'd rather just wait the 2-3 months for the blu-ray to leak.

Yeah, Gozu's the tits. My favourite Miike film. Although that reminds me I have to check out The Bird People in China.

This one and Ichi is the best ones I've seen from him. Saw Bird People in China ages ago and remember liking it. His filmography is so huge that I don't really know what to watch next from him.
 
Black Swan. I had very high hopes for this one after hearing all the hype surrounding it. I have to say, it delivered. At times the images attached to Nina's breakdown may have been a bit too literal for my liking, but overall it was a very captivating movie filled with an excellent performance by Natalie Portman. For years I've thought Portman has been one of the best younger actresses around and this film shows why. She'll definitely get an Oscar nod and wouldn't be surprised if she won it. 8/10
 
Saw 'Devil' (edit)

I would rate it 6/10. It was a decent movie in that it had enough to keep me glued to the seat. It does seem like a short-film but the story is paced just right. And the cinematography was a plus too.

and Takers:

Another heist movie with an emphasis on the style quotient. Can't believe how short the role was for some actors.
I would give it 4.5/10.
 
Just watched Devil. Typical M. Night Shyamalamamama pretentious, pseudo-intellectual rubbish. And unfortunately the Devil is obvious right from the outset. I honestly clocked it within the first 5-10 minutes. Disappointing.

No, but he wrote it. And it has his mark written all over it- in the sense that it tries to force a not-so-subtle, conceited message down your throat. Repeatedly. And then spells it out for you, just in case the audience isn't quite able to contemplate the brilliant ethical insight that Shymalan alone possess. There is a good chance I just don't like Syhmalan though.

The ending was proper rubbish though.
 
Finally watched Inception on dvd over Christmas I never really go see movies with allot of hype around them I wish I did with this it delivers on every level 9.5/10

It was a very good movie. You would like it too if it was in Japanese, black & white and so obscure that only a handful of people in the world watched it. So pretentious.

I quite like Buried, though I am quite claustrophobic and have nightmares of being buried alive like that. It's pretty tense and keeps you watching- considering it's an hour and a half film set in a 8x4 coffin or whatever.

And Devil was a decent pop corn film. A 6.5/10.

True Grit was a little slow and didn't have enough cowboy fight scenes or suspense. Made it feel like a John Steinbeck novel. Urgh...
 
Tangled was a decent Disney movie, going back to its roots. The songs were rather forgettable but I liked the fact that they didn't use cliched references to pop culture. Just pure fun.

I thought Buried was pretty well done and in parts utterly engrossing, but ended up being miserably depressing for the sake of being miserably depressing. There seems to be a trend in Spanish thrillers for this to be the case. A kind of "oh my God life's so bleak we're gonna try and out do each other for beakness and misery"...Like a sort of high brow Eastenders writing competition. I felt the ..

whole last 10 minutes were unneccessary and entirely done for this very cynical reason. They almost ended it, and then decided to whack on another 10 minutes but end it in the same way anyway just to try and be extra tortuous. There are times when unhappy endings are just as cynical and artificial as happy ones. This was the case here I felt.

IMO anyway.

No, not really. And just because it's highly rated doesn't mean you have to like it either, Maldini...that said, I don't think it's a typical Hollywood flick, to me it looked like a low budget movie that's done well. I actually thought the plot wasn't deep enough warrant a movie that lasted for an hour and half. It was a bit tedious....but as I said I just didn't enjoy it nor was I entertained watching a movie that was set in an coffin for 1 hour 30 mins. Simple really. It's a shame he didn't follow the snake out of the hole...and be done with it.
 
You'd like Secret of Kells, Gambit. Brilliant art direction...although it could be argued that it's more style over substance. Kells needs a bit of patience...but it's well worth it in the end. Movies aren't just about great storylines, but a good visual experience. And this one certainly delivers. But I'm cheap like that.

Well exactly...and of course the suspension of disbelief required to believe that any of the people he talks to would actually behave like that. Adding little bits where he expresses this himself doesn't completely absolve you of just trying to stretch the running time with purposefully incompetent emergency/military/terrorist people.
 
Just watched Science of Sleep. Really very enjoyable with good characters and some beautifully done visuals.

Charlotte Gainsbourg really does something for me too, despite not actually being hot.
