Film The Redcafe Movie review thread

Slumdog Millionaire wouldn't appeal to me either. But reading the reviews it sounds like it might be worth a watch. Some critics who I would usually respect are raving about it.

If you're looking for films NOT to download, be sure NOT to watch;

No Country For Old Men
There Will Be Blood
Coward Robert Ford
Man on a Wire
Diving Bell and the Butterfly

Ta.

Seen the top one. Love the Coen Brothers. I've got There will be Blood and all, but not the other ones.

You could always go back to that Top 100 films thread. There must be some in there you havent seen. I remember you talking about how many you wanted to watch before you even compiled your list. You cant have finished that process? Its ongoing, surely?

Yes. Sure, there are loads of greats films that I haven't seen, but it's about mood, though, isn't it. Some films really appeal others don't, depending on how you feel. ATM I'm struggling to find anything I really want to watch.

Defiance 7.5/10

Not bad, wasn't expecting too much as this film wasn't very hyped at least over here. Very realistic portrayal of a group of Jews hiding in the forest from the Nazis, it's not a cliche film that just shows how heroic or innocent they were, but they actually acted as they would've back at the time, and i loved one of the last scenes when they captured a young Nazi soldier and mob mentality took over. Expected a performance from Daniel Craig and he delivered.

I've seen before the devil knows your dead, good storyline however dont know if it was the characters but it didn't really keep me interested.

Everybody seems to be raving about The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, watched the trailer really dont fancy myself.

How about Westerns? The Assassination of Jesse James with Brad Pitt was brilliant imo! I'm gonna watch Appalosa now, Ed Harris and J. Irons! Scored only 7.1 on IMDB though.

When that kind of thing happens to me I usually seek sanctuary in films i know well and love. Withnail and I, Scarface, whatever.

I like Westerns and I've got The Assassination of Jesse James. How does it compare to Leone's stuff?

Not at all I'd say. Dominik's Jesse James is a pure character study of Jesse James and the coward Ford, and I think that C. Affleck was just perfect for that role, so weird and creepy, I hated him. He and B.Pitt were superb. The film does drag a bit but I didnt find it boring somehow. It's a very quiet, non violent movie (as opposed to Leone's stuff).

It's got a very measured pace and can seem a bit slow. Fantastic cinematography and acting though. Watch it on a big telly and let yourself get completely immersed in it. Quality stuff.

I'll watch it. I also have an urge to watch The Good, The Bad and The Ugly again.

Yep Fincher.

I've seen it on various places available for DL.

Link NOT for downloading, Anders?

Behind Enemy Lines - Colombia 1/10

Really, don't bother. A bunch of testosterone fuelled Americans with the chizzled jaws of B-List actors, but all the acting skills of Z-list actors, running around Colombia with plastic guns killing 'bad guys' (they actually used that term, more than once, I shit you not). There wasn't even a fit woman in it to make the film almost bearable. Navy Seals also seemingly have the power to divert the bullets of 2 dozen "bad guys" armed with machine guns, whilst stood out in the open with no cover, picking of said bad guys one at a time with pinpoint shots from their 9mm pistols. If you took the fake and unrealistic parts from every 'America vs The World' action film since the 1980's, and put them together into one film- this would be it.

I gave it a 1/10 simply because after a while, and in a certain light, I eventually started to find the Colombian chick strangely attractive. In fact sh's not actually that bad, so I might give it a 2.

If you like westerns then check out 3:10 to Yuma. I'm not a big western fan but I thought it was excellent.

There's a lot of stuff playing the theaters that I want to watch.

The Reader, Doubt, Benjamin Button...

Revolutionary Road - 8/10 Barring a handful of scenes that seem a tad over the top this was an excellent movie really. Very real and two great acting performances.

Zack and Miri make a porno - hilarious movie , worth the watch
Mirrors - not so bad
Seven Pounds - loved it , great great movie

Right, I need names of films made recent, set in the WW2 era(or Nazi Germany). I'm sure there was a very good Dutch film, made a couple years ago, set in the early 40's(ww2).

I heard "The Ogre" is very good. I am trying to get it for months.

Was talking to a colleague today and the film Klute came up in conversation...how do you rate that one, Spoons? Fonda was pretty hot in it, was the consensus of academic opinion!

I didn't rate Fonda's performance in Klute tbh. I liked her hair though.

I might watch Gran Torino later. Kind of difficult to get excited about a Clint Eastwood film though.

Agreed that Barbarella was probably her at her hottest, but know what you mean about her hair in Klute. Good film, though.

My favourite Eastwood-directed film would have to be Play Misty For Me.

If you liked it you should try other Danish movies as well.

Festen (e. The Celebration)
I Kina spiser de hunde (e. In China they eat dogs)
Italiensk for begyndere (e. Italian for beginners)
Idioterne (e. the idiots) --> one of the funniest films ever
Dancer in the dark
Breaking the waves

and there are some more, I just can't remember their names.

edit:
and my personal favorite, the oh so scary Nattevagten (e. Nightwatch)
