Gaming The RedCafe General/Random Gaming Chat Thread

Anyone played Sky Odyssey on the PS2? I found out about it a few weeks ago and saw a copy in CEX today. It seems a bit Pilotwings-y, which is great.

Also got a copy of Ghosthunter, too.

I did and i think it's great, even though i'm still only getting used to it. Sometimes i think the developers tried too hard to give everything a deeper meaning (especially dialogues) but all in all i like it. The main story is of course much better than the original one - which isn't hard to achieve given that is the biggest problem of all elder scrolls games.

I'm not sure, whether it has been translated well, though, i only played the german version.

I'm a good few hours into Hyper Light Drifter. I think I have died at least 5,000 times. It is nails. Not much of an idea what's going on either, as there's no text, which is odd for an RPG. I'm just slicing everyone up, and pulling torches out of the ground.

It looks and sounds great though. Wonderful soundtrack. Pretty gruesome for a pixel game. Bodies floating in the water and such. The combat is quite satisfying when you nail a bunch of baddies without being touched.

Well posted a thread a month or so ago about gaming headsets and nobody replied.

Just seen the astro a50s have a new version coming out around October it's been pushed back to. Anyone had an astro headset? Pricey but supposedly brilliant.

I've been thoroughly enjoying Shadow of Mordor since I got it for £2.99 in a cdkeys sale last week. It's basically Arkham Asylum but set in Middle Earth. It was the GOTY edition as well, with all the DLCs. Superb value for money.

Started playing San Andreas on the PS2 after seeing this thread a couple of days ago. The graphics are hilarious. But an absolute classic.

Finally got around giving Undertale a shot and only about an hour in and already love it. Really charming game.

It's the third time I try to play Dishonored as I didn't really enjoy it the first couple of times, but I have to say it's a brilliant game. Especially now as I have a 120hz screen it runs perfectly. These last 6 month's I've pretty much only been playing Rocket League, but recently I've been trying to get into some new games as I bought a new rig.

I've tried to play Assassin's Creed Unity, beautiful but fecking terrible in a lot of ways. As a long time fan of the series I thought I'd love XCOM 2 but the appaling performance on PC turns me off. The best one I've found is Abzu, what a trip! Forza Horizon which cost an arm and a leg is incredible as well.

One of my favourite games of these last few years. I can't wait for the second one to come out. Might play the first one again as a warm up before it comes out.

Yeah I love how the game gives you options in how to tackle the missions.

Those fecking rats though are so unnerving. Maybe I'm weak, but to me that's some of the scariest shit I've seen in a game

So, I picked up XCOM2, Stellaris, and Civ VI this weekend... For free*, too!

*Well, for WoW gold, at least  Guildies are getting desperate with the current prices.

How is XCOM2 running for you? Performance seems a bit shit for me so I've shelved it for the time being. Seems good though, from what I've seen.

Still have to get into Stellaris, but I just don't know if I have the time yet. Especially with CIV VI coming out.

Terribly  Medium settings, regular drops below 60 on a 3770k/GTX 970 @ QHD. Game doesn't look bad, but come on.

Can't say I'm too bothered, though. I've had little to do this weekend, so since Friday night, I've pumped 28 hours into it. Once my first game collapsed about 13 hours in, I started again with Ironman on & went on the hunt. Pretty sure I'm nearing the end now, but with Ironman, you never know when your time is up! Game is better than XCOM EU in almost every way (I bounced off that game pretty hard), but I still find myself frustrated at all the crap that happens through walls. I guess that's the price you pay for endless replayability through randomly generated levels.

How's Stellaris compared to CK2/EU4? Is it another PDS game where the only way to learn it is by hundreds of hours of trial & error or watching video guides on YouTube? I love CK2 to death, but the ingame tutorials are useless beyond comparison.

I know, right? I recently bought a GTX 1070 which was a big step up from my last card, so I've marveled at the fps in games like Doom (120 locked) and Witcher 3 (70+ maxed out). Then bloody XCOM2 comes along and dips below 30! It's not that big of a deal as you said, not as if you need the tiny little aliens to have top class AA and so on. I loved the last one (and the originals for that matter), I'll start playing it eventually. Right now I'm mostly playing Dishonored, Forza Horizon 3 and for some reason the Dragon Age Inquisition DLCs that I never got around to playing. Having more fun than I expected with that.

I haven't actually bought Stellaris yet. As you say, it takes a lot of time to get into but from what I've seen on streams, it looks easier to get into than EU / CK. It got some rather average reviews though but I'm sure Paradox will support it with free patches and definitely DLC. I'll get into it later for sure, but the time investment is quite big so I'm saving it for later.

I bounced off Dishonored pretty hard, honestly. Went in expecting Thief (the original, not the reboot), and ended up with some weird superhero game.

True that... Hmm, I might pick up a free* copy of Hearts of Iron IV to complete my 2016 gaming catalogue

Going through the Bioshock collection and finished Bioshock 2. Don't understand how that game is considered the ugly duckling of the trilogy.

It's fecking brilliant. The gameplay for a start shits all over the original and while the story may not be as brilliant as the first game, it's still excellent.

Mere seconds to go until Civ VI launch :) Anyone else in?

Anyone played XCOM 2? I just got it on Xbox One and I'm loving it so far. I don't normally play turn based games but this one is fantastic.

Yeah I bought (and finished it on Ironman :D) a few weeks back. A few of the things that annoyed me about the first game are still present (like shots through walls n stuff), but for some reason, I enjoyed it a LOT more than the first. Story was a bit iffy, but eh, that doesn't bother me too much :)

I actually quite liked the shooting through walls. Blowing a hole in the side of a building is quite satisfying.

I'm only playing an the second highest difficulty but it's got the feel of a game that I'll play again.

Been playing Heroes of Might & Magic 3. Had it on the HD for ages and finally booted it up the other day. I love turn-based strategy, so I'm lapping it up. Beat my first mission yesterday, but it's tough. I save after every turn. It's a good change of pace after beating Shadow of Mordor.

No time or cash right now. Must... resist...

Really looking forward to it though. Any first impressions, Tommy?

Got bored after 30 minutes :D Guess I'm not in a Civ mood right now.
