Mega Man Legacy Collection. All the NES games for £11.99 on PC/PS4/X1 I believe :) Day one!

In the next seven days, PC RPG fans will get...

Shadowrun: Hong Kong
Grandia II
Pillars of Eternity (expansion)

(And Mega Man!)

Shadowrun: Dragonfall was top notch, one of the best RPG in recent times for me, together with The Witcher 3. And I'll definitely want to play the PoE expansion.. But I don't have time for it right now :(

Dragonfall is class. The art in that game, and even Returns, is some of the best I've seen in a cyberpunk title. I'd almost say I prefer it to Human Revolution... Anyway, I'm with you. I only have time for one of the RPGs at a time, and I'm leaning towards Grandia II, because I'm in a more playful mindset than a serious one. I'll still buy Hong Kong on day one to support HBS, though!

I still have some SMT in my backlog. Is 6 days enough to beat Nocturne?

Hmm, that and Grandia II. Plans, what plans?

Dragongfall is gorgeous, got it on the last Steam Sale. Only played a little bit though, as I have no fecking clue what I'm doing.

HBS is such a cool developer, definitely the kind you want to support.

I started playing SR Returns, but didn't like it all that much. Then I read good things about Dragonfall and tried that and it really blew me away. I really liked the mechanics and writing and there was quite a lot of C&C for a smaller game. It's quite refreshing to be able to finish an RPG in 20 odd hours once in a while.

Definitely. Trails in the Sky took 35 hours, Pillars of Eternity took 60 hours, and Dark Souls took 40 hours for two playthroughs... But yeah, it's nice to relax with a shorter game sometimes.

I thought the original was good/very good, but this has the potential to be a lot better. I don't think it's particularly underrated, either... It has quite the following. The Long War is meant to be fantastic.

Having previously finished Enemy Unknown, I started playing the expansion, Enemy Within, a couple of months ago, but all my best guys and gals died during a mission and it's too painful still to go back.

I feel like I never get English punctuation right.. is it ridiculous to use that many commas?

Anyhow, I enjoyed it a lot. It's simplified/consolified as feck, but the part I loved was the emotional bond you got with your dudes and dudettes. Especially snipers and the feeling when your best soldiers died was terrible. Loved it.

Talk about a trip down memory lane! Found this online archive of old gaming magazines - specifically Computer + Video Games, or C+VG:

You can view the issues online, or download them as PDF.

Loved reading these back in the day - this issue from December 1988 was the first computer game mag I bought. Still remember reading it on a train journey when I was younger (a lot younger!!):

https://archive.org/details/cvg-magazine-086

I had an Amstrad CPC at the time, and remember playing Operation Wolf, Afterburner, Double Dragon (all reviewed in that issue!). The days of waiting 20 minutes for a game to load off of tape - and having to turn the sound down as it did!

Fun memories!!

Grandia live on Steam, 25% off until the 31st.

But there's a pretty bad battle-reward XP glitch (don't beat the battle too fast or you won't get rewarded), resolution is locked at 1080p, 4:3 only, locked at 30fps, and the "hard" mode is just enemies getting an extra 20% health...

I'll wait.

The other things would kinda hinder my enjoyment, but yeah, the XP issue is the big one for sure.

Been playing KOTOR2 with that restored content mod. That added robot planet is just terrible :(

Lucius 95% off (£15 down to 74p). I know it's meant to be flawed as hell, but hey, I'm taking a punt at that price!

Needs to be drastically improve on the first game to even go up against games released that year, never mind becoming a pinnacle.

Shadowrun: Dragonfall eats it alive.

I'd enjoy Divinity: Original Sin a lot more if the writing/voice acting wasn't so atrocious, and the combat didn't take 20 years to get through.

Paid mods might be making a comeback.

Edit: Or not, haha. False alarm.

That feeling when everything goes wrong and it's gameover (if you're playing Ironman) is actually one of the things that makes the game awesome to me. I didn't finish Enemy Unknown because of that. I was too sad to try and rebuild my team, and decided to play another game instead of restarting.. But it's great that a game makes us feel that. The ability to actually fail.

Oh they will be re-introduced, it's a given.

That's what's missing from a lot of games, consequence for your actions and failures.

I've been playing Link to the Past. It's shameful but I've never actually played it that much before. It's so good though. Going to complete that and Woolly World before Mario Maker

It's flawless and then that soundtrack.:drool::drool::drool::drool:

I know there's really no such as golden era for gaming or a true answer to it but those early 90's games are pretty much unbeatable.
Most Castlevania's have great soundtracks, but IV is definitely one of, if not the best.

And I definitely agree with that. For me the 8 and 16-bit eras can't be beaten
