The Redcafe Champions League Draft

Because then the draft would go faster. His favourite thing in the world is a fast moving draft. I speak in present tense but in reality he's been gone so long, he's probably dead.

sorry mate. But I'm leaving him a list so if he isn't on until later, he can pick right away. If he doesn't come on before the 12 hours, Theon will have my picks.

Right enough, Luliano was in there.

Also, in that 1994 final Baresi was suspended which is why Maldini moved from left back

Throughout that season it was a,

Maldini--Baresi--Costacurta--Tassotti backline

But anyway, I definitely agree with you that he was immense there, but as a left back he is untouchable.

Yeah. You could play Maldini as a CB and you would have a great one. Play him at LB and you would have the best defensive LB in the draft.

Would people really have Nesta/anyone else over Maldini at centre-back?

Yeah but if it was a straight choice between the two at centre-back I meant.

Without a doubt IMO - Nesta was absolutely incredible, the best since Baresi and crazily underrated (some view Cannavaro as better for example)

Maldini might have been better than him if he always played there, but he was a left back.

Right gents, I'm off. I'll log on in the morning to see where the land lies then. If the boys (NM/BD) don't mind, I'll PM my picks to them should they have finalised their own by then.

I think Nesta was a better pick in the draft for CB position, because people will see Maldini as a left back. In reality there probably wasn't much between them in the CB position though, and Maldini the better overall player.

Sorry lads, was out tonight. NM never sent me a list and I'm not at all prepared so give me a few and I'll post my picks. Cheers

Is Hristo Stoichkov available?

EDIT: Dang, 1 CL game short.

Yeah. You could play Maldini as a CB and you would have a great one. Play him at LB and you would have the best defensive LB in the draft.

Very harsh. He's got to be in that top bracket of centre backs even though I'd agree Nesta and perhaps a couple of others are a bit better.

Yupp, surprisingly 35 European games altogether but 16 were pre-Champions League and only in the European Cup - would have been a great choice man

Dejan Savicevic. Had 18 CL (group stage & KO) + 2 CL Qualifier. Is he eligible?

Tbh I'm open to changing any rules, it's not just me who is playing.

It depends what others think, should qualifiers be included? Technically it isnt the Champions League which is why it was originally left out, but if it's easier to include them then I'm happy to go with it

I don't think we should count qualifiers. Going by that site Theon posted earlier, Savicevic has 32 CL appearances though.

Nah. Just stick to the original. It's much easier to track down.

ANyway, I'm going with the current best winger in the world: Franck Ribéry

What's most important is something that's easy to check. So for example if we use transfermarket as our bible, then go with however many post 92 CL appearances it has. No idea what the implications are for Savicevic, but that would be my thinking.

Nope, he's got 18, the other 14 were in the European Cup.

If you click on the club matches tab (towards the left) it lists all his games in each competition and as CL starts in 92/93 it's just the four seasons after that - but transfermarket like Gio said is probably easier to use
