The Redcafe Champions League Draft

I need to see some credentials Snow.

One question only, have you been to the Icelandic Phallogical Museum ?

Sorry, I phrased that poorly. I am in need of an assistant. I'm already in the game :)

And no, I've not been. It used to be in Northen Iceland but has since moved to Reykjavik. I don't have an excuse for not going. I guess I'll make a day of it sometime in the summer.

How are we defining CL winners? I assume he would be considered a winner as long as he was part of the squad that season? So even if he missed the final through injury/suspension?

Presume it's anyone who has played as part of a CL-winning campaign.

Does anyone want an assistant who once chose Chris Wood in one of these drafts?

Yeah, was just going to make it one appearance during the actual Champions League (no qualifiers)

Also I think that they should be at the club when the club wins the CL, i.e. they didn't leave in January. So even if someone played a couple of the group matches, if they leave in January then they haven't 'won' the CL when the team wins in May

What does everyone think of the second part?

TheGame has had over 14 hours now so normally this would have passed down to Jake, but as its the first one he has 24hours.. :boring:

I know its not what people were expecting, but I've decided to go with Mr Zidane. A legend of the game and a man who shone consistently in the Champions League with a great goal in a final.

I'll PM the next guy now!.

Thought so. I would have definitely considered him if I was first.

are we judging players on their champions league record alone?

I have Djimi Traore's picture all set to go.

Indeed, I wonder what the shittest XI of players with 20 CL appearances would look like. Big Emile leading the line no doubt. Unfortunately Gary Caldwell is two matches short of the cut.

Tough one, as the obscure Eastern European nations will have had teams and players who aren't famous but got spanked 6 times upon a first round exit with terrible individuals, but they're no fun. Here's my attempt at a worst Champions League winners XI:

Dida
Oleguer - D.May - F.Pavon - D.Traore
S.Kalou - I.Campo - P.Lambert - N.Valente
M.Padavano - C.Jancker

I've stuck to players who have 10-20+ appearances in the competition. There'll be plenty to have picked up medals from the bench without playing; Ross Turnbull, Jonathan Greening etc.

He was ok, if a bit boring. It seemed to be his career highlight amongst not a lot else and just sprung to mind quite quickly.

Sub Lambert out for Caldwell, Gareth Barry or Christian Poulsen, Cling, and you've got yourself a team.

Hard to pick right now, imo the four most obvious ones are gone, anyway i'll pick Roy Keane.. Can't put a pick from my phone since the browser is messing around

Nahelais turn, please remember to pm the person after you to let them know it's thier pick!

Nice choice with Roy by the way, was kinda hoping he might last but was too much to ask really.

Haha look what thread Nahealai is currently viewing - trying to get some tips!

I wanted Ronaldo (Brazilian one) but he was snaffled early. Second choice I wanted Laudrup but he's six months over-age according to the rules stipulated.

I was just making sure I don't forget anyone too obvious! (as can happen in these games!) :D

I'll go with Xavi. The best playmaker I've ever seen. Midfield battles are key in these kind of competitions and there aren't too many around as good at dominating the midfield area like "The Puppet Master" is.
