Just to explain the reasoning behind this rule - the draft treats players as if they were at their peak, to make it simple and avoid tedious debates.

But that means that people like Baresi for example who was well past his peak by the time he got 20 caps (he would have been 34) would pose an issue because it's supposed to be a Champions League draft, and by including him at his peak it's effectively a player from the late-1980's, so pre-Champions League era.

Hope that makes sense to everyone!
 
Laudrup's peak was 1990-1995, and he's ruled out, but yeah, fair enough.

Well planned. Was wondering about that rule but makes good sense.

Yeah absolutely, but he was always going to be one who could be included seeing as he only missed the cut by 6 months. You have to make it somewhere and 1965 seemed a decent enough point, after that the oldest players will be 28 in the first Champions League season which seems fair.

Cheers Tito, I didn't have it originally but then started to look at the players and you can make an unreal team with Rijkaard, Baresi etc which isn't an accurate reflection of the Champions League. It should work out alright, the talent pool is still huge!

Inevitable really. I think there's one remaining marquee match-winner, but Rivaldo was my joint second choice (with Ronaldo) behind Messi in this draft.
 
I'll be going offline tonight in about an hour or so, and won't have a chance to be online again until about 4 o'clock tomorrow so I'll PM my selections to somebody before I log off. It would be ideal if we get to the turnaround tonight so then I (and others, I presume) can send selections to BD or Fergus'son or someone, or else would a kind, unbiased volunteer offer to help? :D

Were he not a United player, I don't think you'd be saying that.

On topic: surprised Redondo has been picked up this early. Great player, though. But I recall others (from previous drafts) not rating him as even the best of his generation in that position.
