I pick Paulo Maldini. The consensus best defender of the era.
Oh feck, I'd missed that date of birth thing, that's Laudrup and van Basten fecked then.
Everyone else left to draft was online in the last couple of hours so we might keep this pace up.
Just to explain the reasoning behind this rule - the draft treats players as if they were at their peak, to make it simple and avoid tedious debates.
But that means that people like Baresi for example who was well past his peak by the time he got 20 caps (he would have been 34) would pose an issue because it's supposed to be a Champions League draft, and by including him at his peak it's effectively a player from the late-1980's, so pre-Champions League era.
Hope that makes sense to everyone!
Laudrup's peak was 1990-1995, and he's ruled out, but yeah, fair enough.
Sub Lambert out for Caldwell, Gareth Barry or Christian Poulsen, Cling, and you've got yourself a team.
Knew you would go for him Gio
None of those players have one the competition, all of mine have.
Great pick Cutch!
Right enough, that's a proper hall of shame then. Still their must be a weaker midfielder than Lambert in there, Anderson for one.
Was struggling to decide between Rivaldo and Ronaldinho but knew that Gio would make the decision for us
