Not sure how I managed to get Puyol in there being honest. So many CBS being claimed and Puyol is up there with the best. His history says it all. Monster.

That was such a brilliant formation back in 2007. I truly believe, Totti would have challenged Messi and Ronaldo for the Ballon d'Or if he played that role for one of the european top teams the following years. If Stobzilla makes it work, I'd probably fall in love with his team.

I'm not anti-Riquelme, great player in the right setup, I just saw a lot of blood and thunder in your side and then... Riquelme... huh?

That's all. Like Billy, I would argue the opposite, he was made to look "normal" by the company he kept, when he in fact was Cannavaro level.

And also a RB. I really like it when CBs are also competent FBs on that side. It's a bias of mine which I don't know if others share but every time I look at an attacking fullback I look at the CB next to him and wonder how well he will cover.

I like to mix it up. Don't like to build a team with only blood and thunder. Need some finesse and guile in there as well.

I agree Veron would have been a good fit too though. Embarrassed to say I completely forgot about him, wasn't even on my shortlist!

With Verón you had the finesse and guile without a mismatch in temperament. I can see mixing steel and finesse, but not temperaments and certainly not in the engine room. That's why I never ever go Riquelme.

Jake, I reckon you've lost your marbles or you are doing the same that always happens with Messi: very first pick because he is the bestest ever, then realise there are few wingers so he gets turned into one. The bestest player ever gets shunted elsewhere to make the team formation picture look "right".

It doesn't work like that and it makes no sense for Messi to play anywhere but where he has taken the world by storm. Sure, Cantona on wing the looks even worse. Then get a pair of wingers or play without them.

For the record, I would play Xabi in a two there and get two wingers. You can afford them not being top class. You have Messi, Barca get away with, errr, not really outstanding wingers anyway.

EDIT: like Antohan said. Go with 4-2-3-1. Messi on (1), Cantona on AMC, and get wingers (or even a forward, like his teammate on the left one ;))

Very good advice, get a partner for Xabi and two side midfielders and leave Cantona and Messi upfront.

This. Shunting Messi out wide would be criminal.

Now that you've picked Mascherano as well, play him in a mid 2 with Alonso and get 2 proper wingers.
 
After reading through websites about how to best play Messi and Cantona together. I'm going to play Cantona off Messi. They can rotate as they please. Going to bring in two wide midfielders to complement them which is why I chose to bring in Javier. He's a destroyer who can also play football, and Xabi is one of the best passers in the draft who will also win plenty of the ball.

I find it a little bit odd, don't think Wayne is needed in that team with Ronaldo and RuiCosta there. That's the beauty of having Rui though, can easily just drop him a little deeper.
 
Aight this is so hard actually, going back and forth constantly.. Anyhow ´going for David Trezeguet, going for a Juventus partnership up front, two class attackers who've played together for several years scoring goals for fun.
