I agree with Theon. Keep at it, you are only one lucky draw away from looking bloody awesome. I wouldn't bother with the DM at this stage, just wing it and see if you can get away with it. Maybe get fullbacks who can support your midfielders a bit more?
 
Thoughts so far:
  • A lot of teams seem to shaping up narrowly. Either there's a hard-on for number 10s or a reflection of a smaller pool of wide men to pick from.
  • Snow and Cutch's Chelsea back line looks particularly inspired.
  • Some natural partnerships developing - Vidic/Popescu, Drogba/Lampard, Iniesta/Pirlo, Hierro/Nesta, Ibra/Bergkamp, Raul/RVN, Seedorf/Shevchenko, Blanc/Desailly

Or you could play the Roma formation

Move Henry to the left, get a RW and play Totti as a false 9 and pick up a DM - Totti pretty much pioneered the position at Roma

It would be very similar to the way Roma played and would get the best out of Totti, instead of Vucinic (another forward like Henry) cutting in from the left you have Henry, then the normal three man midfield

Gerrard slightly deeper, Mata slightly tucked, to some extent compensated by Henry's instinct to float wide. You'd need a swashbuckling left-back to make it work though.

Or could just go classic 80s 4-2-2-2. It's symmetrical if nothing else.

Stob has to go with what he feels most comfortable with. If he doesn't like the diamond he probably shouldn't play a diamond because it is the only way to fit a DM.I actually don't like that diamond myself (mind that's partly Gerrard/Veron that I see as a mismatch in both scenarios).

I'd prioritise a solid defensive core behind that leaky midfield, then maybe pick a DM in the last round, just in case. There should be a half decent one left.
 
Aight I need some non-winners now I think before they are all gone, going with Sergio Ramos, potential for covering two positions. He is a cnut but I got a few already so it'll be fine

The last time I seen such an attack-minded and narrow midfield work at the top level like that was Real Madrid setting up as a 3-5-2 at Old Trafford with Redondo, McManaman, Savio and Raul as the middle unit.

That was more what I was getting at with fullbacks who could support the midfield. There are several players who can do that DM-third CB role and they aren't very fancy ones so should last.

It's the right fullbacks he needs to track down.
 
What are the thoughts on the MCmanaman ick? I considered him, but think Scouse will not be recieved well.

Fantastic winger not a kick and chaser either, great with the ball at his feet, could pick a pass and could play either side, would have worked really well for me.

Looks really good, but I reckon he would have been better off with Verón instead of Riquelme myself. It makes me want to see the rest of his picks before making up my mind.

I was worried he might be underrated on the Caf. Most common perception is that the defenders he was playing with made him seem better than he really was.
