The RedCafe Boxing Thread

I listened to the first half on the radio & it sounded like Haye was getting battered. I found a screen to watch the second half & there didn't seem to be too many marks on him, where as Klitchco was marked on his face.

Clearly though, Haye wasn't getting close enough to him, or couldn't find many openings.

The result is fair, Klitchco landed much more on Haye, even if he didn't really hurt him.

Anyway, broken little toe or not, Haye looked like a man with no plan out there. Basically, Klitschko imposed himself perfectly and used his tried and tested left jab to keep Haye well out of range.

I know the style isn't the most exciting, but when perfectly executed it's alot of fun to watch the other fighter get frustrated and eventually open himself up to a few shots.

tbf to Haye, he didn't...

As most of us here are British, we were looking to Haye to produce something in the fight and many have been left bitter that he never delivered on what he promised. For me though, I think Klitschko should be disappointed. He was the bigger fighter out there and he got took to the 12th round by Haye.

Anyone saying that Haye got battered is talking out of their arse, they both took equal damage but it was not enough to even bother either of them. I don't know a lot about boxing, but I think it was clear that Haye just couldn't get close enough to him because of the reach advantage and height difference. I know this is a bit of a daft argument, but if both of them were the same size then I think Haye would have beaten him.

Haye is a good boxer but he really was punching above his weight here. He beat Valuev because Valuev was incompetent as a boxer and only had size. Klitschko was smarter and really used his size to his advantage.

Haye knew what his opponent was going to do,klitschko does it all the time.
Haye wasn't battered but he was outboxed.

Saying klitschko should be dissapointed is madness. Haye has a big right hand and he stayed away from it. Clever boxing. For all David Hayes trash talk he did nothing in that fight and was the deserved loser.

And this punching above his weight argument is a non runner as well.
He is not forced to fight at heavyweight he chooses to.

Mike Tyson is 5 foot 10. A full 5 inches shorter than haye and 8 shorter than klitschko and I reckon he would have destroyed both of those fighters in his prime.

So much of this post is completely wrong.

Why does Haye have a particular date set for retirement, can someone tell me? Is there some significance to it?

Well, the point is, Haye knew all about Klitschko before he went after fighting him, you would have thought that he might have come up with a plan. They threw around the same number of punches, but Haye connected far less - punching into thin air doesn't really get you anywhere. In terms of reach, Haye was giving away around 3 inches, the same as the other Klitschko gave away to Lennox Lewis where he was damn dangerous. At 6'3" Haye isn't a dwarf.

Maybe Haye is just a really big dwarf.

Klitschko landed a lot more punches.

I agree with what Weaste said, Haye knew about the reach and the jab but had no answers to it. In short, he was exposed. He talked a great fight, but ultimately when he needed to come up with the answers he had none.

I'm just disappointed that Wlad didn't knock him out... but fair play to Haye for taking those punches. That I will give him credit for.

I've decided Vlad's a top bloke. I also can't get his flipping accent out of my head.... It's currently saying 'Dr Steel Hammer' in his Ukrainian accent.

Wery niice.

No rematch but there could be a fight with his brother Vitali.Having heard him this morning all credit to him he admits that he deserves al the flak he is getting after the trash talking he did.

Agreed, he does come across much less twattier than most other boxers.

If Haye does get another chance, against either Klitschko, it will be only because there are no more lucrative fights out there, not because Haye's performance deserved another chance.

It was possibly as meek and timid a surrender of a belt by a british world champion that i have ever seen.

He led everybody on, telling all who would listen about how great he was and how he was going to unify the division. I suspected he was nothing more than a bullshitter at the time, and now i am certain of it.

His broken toe excuse was as pathetic as his performance imo, ffs Calzaghe beat a guy with one hand after breaking his left early on, that type of excuse from Haye typifies his attitude, he wants all the rewards without taking any of the risks. He fought like a clueless shitbag and i have no more respect for him than i have for Audrey Harrison!

David Haye, take your money that you 'earned' and just feck off!

Moron.

Haye was right about unifying the division, he was just a little off on which direction the belts would be heading.

The division is still not unified. And never will be unless one of the brothers retires.

Why is it ignorant, which part is not true and please enlighten me with your version of events.

There is no point. You should post at Boxingscene. It is a haven for utterly clueless "fans" of the sport. You'd fit right in.

pffft, they're all under the same name.

Anyway, screw Haye, all I want now is for Mayweather and Pac to fight. Sort it bitch features.

Floyd is fighting Ortiz next. Possibly Pac next year. It's about time.

Go on then, give us the view of a clued up fan. How would you rate Haye's performance?

Putting aside the injury, he was average. Of course, you have to factor in that his opponent outweighed him by over 2 stone, hits like a truck, has barely lost a round in years, and is widely regarded as the number one guy in the division. Something that seems to have escaped your notice. Still, why give Wlad any credit, it's much easier to shit on Haye.

Thought Haye fought poorly tbh. His only tactic seemed to be to throw massive overhand rights in an effort to get an early knockout and when that didn't happen he didn't really seem to have an answer.

Wlad was never really taken out his comfort zone.

The only plus for me was that it was a much more exciting fight than I anticipated (plus I won a bit of money).

That was the most I have seen Wlad hit in years. He was actually marked up around the face.

How much did you win?

That's the big one mate, just hope Mayweather gets through Ortiz to set the Pac fight up perfectly.

I reckon Pac can get through Mayweathers defense. Just a gut feeling, Pac's like a Messi version of Hatton.

Floyd UD all day long, IMO. He is the best in the world, whereas I feel Pac is a little one dimensional. It just so happens that most guys can't handle that dimension. Marquez showed what a good boxer can do against Pac, and Floyd is on another level to him again.
