The RedCafe Boxing Thread

I haven't been overly impressed with Alvarez, thus far. He hasn't looked anything special to me. Yet.

I give Rhodes a decent shot in this one.
Aye, I don't really get the hype either. I think a lot of it comes from the fact that he's still so young and people are still talking about him in terms of potential, but I haven't really seen anything that makes me think he's going all the way to the top. The Baldomir KO was impessive, mind.

Saturday night is a good gauge of the level he's currently at, Rhodes is a pretty tough test.

Am very much looking forward to this fight
Although, I'm not sure will it be a knockout, Haye definitely has the power to knock him out, but think he'll fight like he did against Valuev and aim initially to win it on points

Regarding Haye/Klitch it's just the usual boring boxing talk buildup, trying to create a rivalry to big up a grudge to sell more tickets. Everytime it happens 99 times out of a 100 they end up shaking hands and hugging after the final bell. It's all about selling the show and it's pretty boring to watch/hear after the first time.

Only a blind person can't see they genuinely dislike each other (or Wlad doesn't like him)

Totally agree that video was a bit shit, seemed almost scripted.

I'm sure they are not good friends and probably don't much like each other but a lot of this in boxing can be quite embarrassing.

Maybe so, or maybe both camps know how to sell a fight. Grudges sell better.

Yeh, and it always seems like Haye's income is mainly the PPV stuff, so he's always trying to sell

The work they both did for Haye-Harrison was impressive, almost had you believe it was a credible fight

I think Wlad is fecking pissed with Haye, wouldn't be surprised if he shat on Haye after knocking him out!

God I hope Klitschko batters the shit out of Haye, cant stand the incessant hype machine around him and pretty much any decent British fighter... Its verging on the pathetic.

Just got round to seeing the Alvarez card. Dunno whether Broner was really impressive or Litzau just got caught cold. Both fighters were working each other out, barely throwing anything, then suddenly Litzau got trapped against the ropes, took a load of clean shots and the ref stepped in. Strange.

Alvarez's combos and punch variety caught the eye in the main event but Rhodes was pretty awful to be honest. Think the occasion might have got to him as he seemed to be in survival mode for most of the fight.

Edit: not very fair that actually, he was pretty game but all he did was follow Alvarez round the ring without letting his hands go.

Hey look its getting heated, buy the PPV people!

In fairness though I'm looking forward to this, I'm just avoiding the build up.

Emanuel Steward in Wladimirs corner. Hadn't noticed that, can't wait for this.

He has been in Wlad's corner since 2004. Some would say he is responsible for turning Wlad into one of the most boring "fighters" I have ever had the misfortune to witness.

My cousin's got 4 tickets for this, on his way to Germany right now. Bastard wouldn't give me a ticket

I'm not a boxing expert but I think if Haye is going to win, he'll have to KO Klitschko. I think if it goes the distance Klitschko will win plus there has been doubt about the neutrality of judges to score the fight fairly.

Personally, I hope Klitschko wins as I find Haye very annoying and too arrogant.

I thought Sturm won the fight. Macklin threw a lot more, but the cleaner, more effective work came from Sturm. He nearly KO'd Macklin at the end of the 12th.

Jim Watt of Sky scored it a draw.

I'm sure Haye is trains in the old railway arches that was the company that I worked for, used as stores when they worked on the Park Plaza Hotel...was just watching Haye vs on sky and I'm sure it is the one...

First heavyweight fight I'll be watching in a long time, the division is a bit of a joke now.

Even the prefight is embarrassing, its getting like WWF.

Sky Box Office streams are hard to find. Sky go after them like a rabid dog. They are shut down almost before they're started.

Just go to the pub.

Haye is setting himself up for a fall here I feel. I realise he has to try and sell the fight but he is talking far too much bollocks and ust get the feeling Klitschko is far more focused and will stop Haye.

I'm looking forward to this. I was going to get it on PPV, but now I'm probably going to head to the pub.
If Haye loses, does anybody else think he won't be retired by his next birthday?

He's been going on for ages about being the saviour of heavyweight boxing and all that shite but maybe the worst thing that can happen to the division is for him to beat Wladimir and then retire immediately after.

I understand your point, and if it was anyone other than Wlad...

Seeing him get knocked into Bolivian just can't be bad for boxing.

Haha, seems like you genuinely hate the guy.

I get bored watching him fight and it irritates me when he waits about 7 rounds before daring to throw a right hand when he should be blowing some of these guys away in a couple of mins. But... I still respect just how utterly dominant he's been this last few years. I mean, when was the last time he even lost a round? He's the kind of guy people will miss when he retires IMO.

I sort of hope he beats Haye to be honest. Even though I recognise that most of the bollocks he's been spouting has been in the interest of a) securing the fight, b) promoting the fight, it will still be funny seeing him rolling around on the canvas after all the stuff he's come out with. I don't really do patriotism either so the fact that he's British doesn't make much difference to me.

I absolutely hate him. I also can't agree that people will miss him when he retires. The guy is so boring HBO refuse to show his fights. He has been dominant, but his opposition has been garbage. Watching Wlad fight is sort of like watching a kid poke a lizard with a stick. The kid always wins, and almost always by KO . . . but watching him tentatively poke at it for hours, waiting for it to slowly bleed to death, just doesn't do it for me.

Guys that he is capable of getting out of there in a couple rounds he carries for 11. Joe Mesi knocked out Davarryl Williamson in 83 seconds. Wlad fought tentatively, went FIVE rounds with him, got knocked down and escaped with a technical, majority decision. Then there is the Brewsturd debacle, when he claimed he was drugged.

He has no fighting spirit. He has already said he is going to jab, jab, and grab Haye for 11 rounds. His own words. This from supposedly the number one HW in the world. What a joke. He never avenged his losses to Purrity or Sanders, and his total faggotry when it comes to negotiating contracts makes me want to puke.

I don't like Vitali, either, but at least I respect him.

So yeah, there are some of the reasons for my hatred. :)
