Unbelievable scenes. I thought after AJ knocked Ruiz down he'd steam in and finish it then be calling out Fury, but my days what a turn around!

Hats off to Ruiz. Clear game plan which he stuck to despite the knock down. Great work from him.

I think the ref was right to stop it. AJ was down twice that round, looked dazed and the refs have to protect the fighters from taking too much punishment.

I think even if AJ wins the rematch he will need to regroup in UK before heading back to USA again.

If they time the rematch for the same period as Wilder fights Fury then the winners of both fights should be nicely positioned.

The look on Hearn's face was priceless. I can't see Fury or Wilder fighting him in the next year or so.

Gutted. What could have been a great era for heavyweight boxing ruined by politics and a freak upset. Watch as the belts get dispersed again after mandatories are called before the rematch. Going into next year we could see the champions being Usyk WBO, Pulev IBF, Wilder WBC and Ruiz Jr/Joshua WBA with all taking warm up fights barring the possibility of a Wilder-Fury rematch. This Joshua loss has set back big unification fights until 2021 minimum.

Haven't Wilder and Fury agreed a rematch after Wilder takes on Ortiz? If that's true we are looking at about a year before any unification fight.

I think that if that is the case it works in AJs favour a touch as he could regain the belts, then take a fight with say Pulev which he should come through and be back on track again, although I cannot see him overcoming Fury or Wilder when they meet.

EDIT: I mean it could work in AJs personal favour if he retains the belts to then have a tune up fight before any unification. Going into that on the back of a couple of wins would be preferable for AJs confidence.

Something was definitely off about Joshua tonight.

Asking weird questions between rounds, not knowing where punches were coming from.

Was he just exposed by the first counter-puncher he faced or was he genuinely concussed?

At the time of the stoppage it seemed like he wanted no more and had given up.

His career is in tatters.

Any heavyweight in the top 50 could have beaten Joshua on that performance tonight, he was absolutely dreadful. Other than the punches that knocked Ruiz down I can't recall him doing anything else of note in the fight.

He wasn't listening to his corners instructions, he let Ruiz take centre of the ring and backed off him all night. Didn't use his height and reach advantages, kept his left hand low and went for a lot of low jabs against a guy shorter than him.

His whole behaviour tonight was odd....the delay to his ring walk, the weird gnashing of his teeth on the ring walk, getting a lower neck/head massage during the introductions and then the gurning/chomping on his gumshield during the anthems. Not too mention the odd questions and comments to his cornermen during the fight. All in all AJ's outing tonight reminded me a bit of Ronaldo's 1998 World Cup Final performance.

I noticed that as soon as AJ lost Dillian Whyte then posted onto his twitter the Verve song "When the drugs don't work" :)

Holy... Joshua didn't look like he wanted to be there from start to finish, even his ring walk was off. I hope we don't have any mandatory's called before the rematch. Good to show humility in defeat though, and that's a classy message from Fury; he's gone up in my estimations. But man, what a shitty day for sport!

AJ is just not as good as many thought. I always thought that DW would have beaten him. Ruiz is a very good boxer and was probably underestimated

It’s a bit reminiscent of Rahman-Lewis 1
Thing is, that was a fluke. From what I remember, Lewis was dominating the fight and suddenly got caught from a big punch and was out cold. Anyone knew that he is going to win the rematch.

Here, Ruiz made Joshua his bitch and dropped him 4 times. Hardly a fluke, he was by far the better boxer in this fight, and Joshua will have problems in the rematch.

At least AJ and his cronies will have a bit of a reality check...

True. If you're a Mexican Scouser then it's been epic. But all those Mexican Scousers can go feck themselves. :D

Totally shocked about this. I took one look at his opponent and he reminded me of Butterbean, so i gave it a miss , but to wake up to to see this result is a must watch now.

A Mexican scouser would be a sight to behold

But actually I'd be interested you know who most United fans follow between Tyson and AJ. Fury is always at OT talking to the fans when his fights are coming up. For me anyway the result cheered me up slightly after the CL final.

Fury for me.

AJ is just a puppet of Hearn. Least Fury has something about him.

Fair play to Wilder and Fury - they've played this perfectly. Made AJ and Hearn look like twats - twice!

The announcement couldn't be timed worse for AJ either, makes to tonight's fight laughable if it wasn't already.

What would AJ do next? Whyte? Usyk? He's running out of options and fast.

I predicted last year that Fury and Wilder were going to troll AJ and refuse him the big fights after him trying to leverage the division and make himself the top man. AJ will be crawling back to the table begging soon.

I don’t think that’s a bad thing for AJ. He needs to change something in his training/camp. And it will probably need more than just winning the rematch before looking at Wilder/Fury.

People saying his career is over is a pretty wild statement. He’s needs to figure out why he can’t keep a higher tempo and use his advantages. When you’re getting walked down by a shorter, fat, counter puncher, something has gone drastically wrong.

Well now we know why AJ was ducking Wilder and Fury.

He is the new Frank Bruno looks the part but that's it . No chin and crumbles under pressure.

Using that logic, it’s strange that Fury/Wilder didn’t take that money and go knock him out.

Full card highlights here for folks that didn’t watch it. Joshua-Ruiz around 21st min.

Even when you take the knockdowns out the equation, Joshua was really poor.

He's not clever enough to reinvent himself like Wlad did.

Jesus Christ. Can't believe he crumbled like that. Big up Ruiz but AJ completely flopped. Shame it ruins the undisputed fight.

The handspeed and the size of the fight in Ruiz was astonishing.

At last I can rightly claim that I have the physique of a world boxing champion

Have to say, as much as AJ looked off, this Ruiz guy has some serious tools in his arsenal. His handspeed is preposterous, and he's got a granite chin. But that handspeed

He's right though isn't he? Fury offering the olive branch now he's sure that he can beat him. Surprising reaction for a guy that's just seen a massive potential purse for him evaporate.

I think Fury would have been confident before this win. AJ is good but is there to be hit. I would have fancied Fury to beat AJ over 12 rounds.
