Lomachenko looks like the best boxer around at the moment, he is taking on good/quality fighters too and he's beating them convincingly. Walters made Donaire look ordinary yet Lomachenko forced him to quit.

Damn right about Lomachenko, he looks invincible at the moment. Usyk looks pretty damn scary too but i wouldn't know which way to go if he ends up facing Murat Gassiev. I think the latter can knockout just about anyone in the sport right now. The cruiserweight tournament is looking absolutely brilliant at the moment.

Too many people writing Parker off right now but i don't think he's that easy to dispose of. He's a strong guy and definitely a bigger puncher than Takam. I look forward to seeing him fight AJ :)

I think Uysk will win the tournament but if Gassiev can beat Dorticos than that will be a great fight. Been some brutal fights already.

Parker just looks sluggish, and poor. He had a lot of hype but as soon as he has stepped up opposition (his last 3-4 fights) he has been found wanting. Still getting wins, mind.

Usyk-Gassiev most likely will be the Cruiserweight final. Imagine that - WBC, WBA, WBA, IBF and Ring belts on the line plus the trophy. Also no doubt the winner would be front runner for fighter of the year (as it would be a second major unification win for either), a likely spot in the pound for pound top 5-6 (assuming the win is legit) and no doubt will move up to Heavyweight to make some serious money once the Joshua-Parker-Fury-Wilder stuff is settled.

I fancy Usyk. I think he's superb.

He is superb. His masterful domination of Gary Russell was great too. Russell has about the fastest hands in the game, is currently for me the best fighter in the featherweight division and had an excellent amateur career. Lomachenko won 11 rounds, broke him down with body shots and had Russell landing less than 100 punches despite throwing over 1000.

He and Crawford are a cut above the rest but Lomachenko looks to have more of that "oh my god" wow factor type talent but I think Crawford is perhaps the more complete boxer at this point. He can fight left handed or right handed equally well, figures out a fight quickly, adapts and dominates. Both are tremendous body punchers.

Problem with these rock solid Eastern Europeans is their lack of commercial appeal as they can't speak very good english or any at all to help promote their fight and their promoters are sometimes poor as well which is why you see them fight other eastern europeans. It took GGG so long to get a decent fight, he was probably 32 before he got a big fight and I don't think he was ducking anyone at that time. He had to fight those below elite level or people who already had a loss on their record and Canelo waited a year and a half before fighting him.

Any decent Americans or Western Europeans will avoid them like the plague. Bellew even if he was still cruiserweight champion would have never went into that tournament, he would have been pummelled by the first decent fighter he came up against, the risk v reward isn't there.

The money won't be great compared to a domestic clash as most casuals don't know who they are. It's much safer for them to fight a domestic, decent rival where they can build their fight massively despite previously being friends, get a big crowd, big money and a big audience on TV, and most likely a rematch for more money.

In the UK, the cruiserweight hasn't really received any coverage at all despite there being some cracking fight and the most exciting division in terms of knockouts, while the super middleweight division has received plenty due to a number of british boxers fighters being involved, fighting against average fighters till the semi-final/final.

You are right. It sucks too. GGG is somewhat of an anomaly in that he gained enough popularity to sell out arenas vs. cannon fodder, star in a huge PPV and is a brand name. Lomachenko is so freakishly good and there's a buzz around him that hopefully he reaches those heights but yes it is difficult for Eastern Europeans to break through. They have the hardest route to the top and then at the top the hardest time getting the fights. Kostya Tszyu, way back in the day did alright and no doubt that's because Aussies backed him and he had that fan base. Americans won't get behind an Eastern European fighter.

Joseph Parker just called out Anthony Joshua on Twitter:

It's going to be an interesting fight for sure. Parker's strong and won't be sparked out easily. I suspect he can exploit Joshua's chin here. Let's see though... AJ is no joke and he is still the man to beat IMO.

Parker said he'd take a 40% split for Joshua. That to me sounds like code for "I don't want to fight him but I'll make it look like I do. He ducked me."

The Boxing Rant guys have been saying that for a while. Of course they're referring to the 'casuals'. That particular pod was pretty insightful from the way they described the ethos behind the training and attitude the Eastern Europeans had towards their fighting career, the differences in the way they navigate their career etc. Can't remember which episode exactly, but think it was in the build up to Kovalev- Ward 1, with Michael Montero guesting.

Kovalev is very non Eastern Euro in his mentality for me. Usually they respect the roles of the coaching (probably due to amateur backgrounds), year round discipline and training and structure. Kovalev is the opposite regarding his career the last few years. Allowing himself to balloon up in weight, not listening to his coaching and his ego. Think about it. Multiple coaches said he's too stubborn to deal with and he also puts his "Krusher" brand on everything from his cars, shirts etc; He barely had a real training camp for Ward re-match instead traveled the World, showed up overweight and didn't try to make any adjustments. I think he got too comfortable when the HBO money came in. Marvin Hagler once said "It's difficult to wake up at 5am in the morning and go run when you sleep in silk pajamas". It must take such discipline to push yourself in an individual sport.

Lomachenko is a dream in that sense. Works with the same spartan work ethic he did as an amateur and is constantly working on ways to improve himself. His freak of nature talent will break through in my opinion but some excellent fighters like Usyk, Gvozdyk (I love him), Bivol, Gassiev, Beterbiev though all fine fighters destined for big things barely have a chance to truly break through despite likable personalities and awesome styles. I really hope to see these guys get a fraction of the love that GGG was able to receive due to kickass style, great personality and superb talent.

I think they were referencing Loma and talking about East European fighters in general, just happened to be before 'krusher -Ward 1.

Found it. It was before GGG v Jacobs.

Around the 15 minutes mark.

Hope to see Kov make a return. He was a great fighter to watch and he won the first Ward fight for me, and hardly embarrased himself in the rematch. If he still has the motivation, there's still some great fights out there for him. It's a shame him and Stevenson never fought a few years back, that would have been a cracker.

Yes me too. I hope he is still a force but I have my doubts he looked flat in the Chilemba fight too but yes he beat Ward in the first and IMO was winning before he was fouled out of the re-match. It just seems to me is that he's not quite got the drive he once had and I don't hear great things about him out of camp. Seems he runs the show and goes at his own pace.

Kovalev, Bivol, Gzozdyk, Beterbiev, Jack makes a very, very entertaining division. I pay Stevenson no attention as I think he's a fraud and he's not been interested in serious fights for over 4 years.

Minute 6:40 said Kovalev got big headed and drinks like a fish in training.

Good win for Josh Taylor. Looks a prospect.

I'm not up at all on current boxing trends so having seen a very uninspiring fight between Jarrell Miller and Mariusz Wach who is troubling Joshua at the top of the heavyweight division apart from Wilder? To the layman it's looking very poor indeed.

It's heavyweight boxing so sometimes it's a punch away. I think Wilder isn't as good as Miller but he hits harder. I also think Cruiserweight champ Usyk is perhaps better but much smaller. Ortiz and Povetkin I felt would have beat Wilder but both got postponed.

Wilder has a punchers chance against all but I'd consider him an underdog against all of the aforementioned.

I honestly have no faith in Wilder getting past Whyte. I think he's been a cashout from day one and his brain trust just waiting to get the most money and hand him over and that's why his competition has been so bad.

I found it dodgy that the only two credible opponents he signed to fight (mandatory challengers) got busted for some little violations when the WBC have willingly let Nery keep his title despite failing a test for the fightbhe won it in and they let Salido-Vargas go ahead despite busting Vargas a month early. They got caught for actual steroids not blood pressure pills.

I think Joshua would end it inside 3 rounds against Wilder. Wilder has below average skill but he does have major power that's it.
One of those loopers catches Joshua, and it's over. Joshua's concentration isn't the best... makes for an intriguing contest.

I don't rate Wilder, but the way he fights is custom-made for a serendipitous connection somewhere within the bout.
Would like to see Wilder knock Joshua clean out.

He might not be the best boxer (Joshua is not a great boxer either fwiw) but his right hand can clean anyone out.
Forget Whyte, Parker or anyone else, only Wilder, Joshua and Fury (if he can get himself together) are serious contenders.

The only fight I can see AJ losing, is to Tyson Fury on points. AJ needs to improve his head movements as said above, he gets caught way too often.

Daniel Dubois has the potential to clean out the division. A proper boxer with hands, movement, ringmanship and the natural swagger to execute.

He's the sleeper people will be talking about soon enough.

Cheers man, as I said I'm a total layman :). I came in a bit pissed last night and thought I'd have a look and, though I accept Miller was by far the better boxer and wasn't allowed to show his very best by the lumpen Wach, it didn't look great.

Parker wants 40% of the Joshua fight??? Dream on Parker you chump, he's done nothing and wants to take all Joshuas hard work. AJ, Haye, Fury, Wilder all put him to sleep easilly. Hell even Bellew is worth a shot.

Hearn is right, they have to overpay these fighters because of the size and fame of Josha. Only Haye, Fury, Klitchkos can command 40-50%. Wilder, Parkers et al should get about 10% which is loads with a fast car Eddie PPV show in a footie stadium.

Amir Khan confirmed for I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. At least Joshua will know he can go round his house whenever he wants for the next few weeks.

though tbf Joshua could turn up whenever he likes really, if he turned up at my gaff for a go on the missus i'd probably just take his coat and make him a cuppa

on a serious note though what is Amir doing? i think he gets a rough ride a lot of the time and is a far better fighter than he's often credited for but going on a show like this when you should be in your prime fighting years is just pathetic. you do this shit when you've retired, he can't need the money surely

Amir has taken numerous heavy KOs, he is better off messing about in the jungle.

hahah true same to be fair!

Apparently he does have money issues but then also there's rumours cos his public image is that of a bit of a bellend they're hoping he can go on and come across alright. David Haye did it to be fair and he's still fighting (albeit after a 4 year break) who knows...maybe Amir will be having a comeback fight in a few years!

He just loves attention and he's a part time fighter these days. A delusional one at that. Still holding out Mayweather. He squandered his prime by not following up on the Alexander win (waiting for Mayweather) then foolishy fought Canelo and then tried to bait Floyd and waited for Pacquaio.

He said just two days ago he will fight three times next year. No chance of that happening.

Khan just thought his name was as big as any in the sport and that would be enough whilst others were fighting each other and taking over him.

Why doesn't Khan just fight Brook, surely he will make more money than going in the Jungle. Plus it's his career and 'life' so you would think he would want to fight. I read an interview with him about a month ago where he said he is waiting for big news and wants the big fights.

Is he really that scared of Brook? I've always thought Brook would beat him, he's more talented and has much better timing, but Brook has been beaten twice now and obviously has weaknesses but yet Khan doesn't even fancy it after seeing that.

That fight’s always there and will always be a money fight. Will be a last resort for Khan but will happen eventually.

Inoue is an absolute beast, looks so experience and talented despite having less than 20 fights. He's the best in a very stacked division for me. Rungvisai basically ended p4p champ Chocolatio but he wasn't at his natural weight and talk of him being past his best before both fights.

Yafai would do well to beat anyone in the top 5 in that division.

Inoue is likely to feature on the February card per Dan Rafael. He will fight in Japan end of the year then defend in LA. I'd imagine with an eye to winner of Estrada-Rungvisai facing Inoue at the end of next year which would be ideal as I suspect Inoue will outgrow the division n 2-3 fights.

Inoue is the best SuperFly for me, he is the monster and he fights like a monster

Khan in his interview for the jungle said that his fears are spiders, snakes and heights. Forgot to mention Kell Brook.
