Whyte fight and that Klitschko punch reassured me about Joshua's chin. Still that uppercut Wlad took still astounds me. GGGs chin is just unbelievable...to the point where I think he doesn't give a crap about being hit .....which can work to his disadvantage if it goes to the scorecards.

When Canelo hit that massive uppercut on GGG late on and he just ignored it I actually burst out laughing. Just, to not even react at all? Insane durability

There are a couple of reasons, both stemming from the fact that whilst power increases in divisions the ability to withstand shots to the chin or temple doesn't increase at the same rate. Firstly you have a higher probability of scoring points when going to the body, that is important when you don't have great confidence in stopping the fight. Secondly because draining your opponents fatigue is a potent way of increasing your chances of a knockout which is important when you might not have natural explosive power.
I also think it comes down to they are better fighters and face better opponents consistently. If the opposition is weaker a fighter might just be a head hunter because it comes easily.

True and there are a couple of British heavyweights that come to mind

Would anyone be kind enough to send me a river for the Eubank fight if they have one?

Eubank showed he is a class above. aesthetically, he’s great to watch.

Yeah, GGG and Charles Martin have one thing in common - block the straight right with the chin. Only works for one though :)

On a serious note, GGG is unreal. Imagine fighting the guy in a street or something. Death incarnate.

Eubank needs to fight like that all the time. Stop all the showboating and taking unnecessary hits, and just get the job done.

Looked much better last night.

Heard Joshua is getting $20m and Pulev $5m!!! Wilder has NO right to dictate when and where the AJ fight happens. If I'm AJ I'd offer it next since Wilder is a walking loss waiting to happen and probably easy a $40-50m payday. Wilder is content running his mouth fighting the D level os the Heavyweight division though so could be hard to get in the ring.

Good day of Boxing Saturday

From England you've got the super middleweight tournament and title fight George Groves vs. Jamie Cox. Don't know much about Cox, but heard he comes to fight. Will have a keen eye on this. Winner fights Eubank.

CBS afternoon fights here are a bit meh. Leo Santa Cruz & Abner Mares in meaningless tuneup mismatches when they should just be fighting each other. LSC disappoints me a bit. I like him and rate him but he does love his fair share of mismatches. Feels like he's killing momentum and wasting time.

Showtime has for my money a great card.

Headlining is probably the weakest bout Erislandy Lara v Terrell Gausha but the two other title fights are excellent.

Jarrett Hurd v Austin Trout - a great test and 1st defense for Hurd against such a skilled and experienced foe. I like Hurd a lot but he needs to be on his game.

Jermell Charlo v Erickson Lubin is the fight of the night and month. Lubin is a blue chip prospect and Charlo much more experienced and looking better every fight. I pick Lubin in a minor upset here. This kid is a very exciting young fighter.

Groves vs. Eubank would be an interesting fight, Eubank won't be able to fight like he does against most the average or over the hill fighters he's fought in the past. Groves would by far be his hardest test. Groves would school him if Eubank fights like he usually does.

Did you see Eubank's last fight?

I made mention of it in here because he actually went in, did the business and got out, which gave a measure of what he's actually about.

Thought he looked good in there, and that's the Eubank that will come out against Groves, I should think.

I don't believe Eubank Jr. has the natural ability or speed to carry on with the showboating as he goes up the levels. He's no RJJ or Sweet Pea, or even Eubank Sr. and I'm pretty sure he knows it, so the silly showboating is going to die a natural death before it gets him KO'd in there.

Groves will be his first real test and barometer so it'll be an interesting fight. Hard one to call.

On recent form, Joshua by decision. Although, one never knows with Wilder. He could come in with his usual wild style and KO him. I'm a bit suspicious of AJ's chin after the Klitschko fight. If Wilder makes that kind of contact I don't think AJ would be able to recover from the ensuing pressure after he gets up.

What? Surely it should be the other way around?

Theis is the heavyweight division, 99.9% of those shots take a boxer clean out (see Lewis v. Rahman). Joshua has now shown he has fight, and a chin.

I saw highlights of it mate I was on holiday so couldn't catch it all unfortunately. From what I saw he looked good but just with his history Of fighting id be interested how he comes out vs Groves.

I think Groves is much improved in his last few and has got over massive confidence issues and would have him as favourite myself but it's an interesting fight I'd agree.

Agree. And Klitschko has amazing power on his own, I doubt that there is a big difference between Klitschko's and Wilder's punching power.

I think that Joshua KO Wilder on the middle rounds of the fight.

George Groves - Jamie Cox ring walks starting now.

Entertaining stuff. Think Groves hurt Cox at the end of the 2nd and he's not quite recovered fully since.

EDIT - And now it's over. Good fight while it lasted.

Was thinking through the fight that Groves had a triangle, tassle union flag on the back of his shorts, just like Hatton used too, then he did that. Great body shot. No getting up from that one. Impressed with Cox performance though.

Not sure about ITV box office, bit ropey. Yoooo-bank v Groves for the semi.

Groves gasses after six rounds which worries me against Eubank. Eubank has a chin and a really good workrate. If he could nick a couple of the earlier rounds, I could see him taking the back six. But Groves has an excellent jab, which he should use much more against Eubank than he did tonight. Still siding with Groves for now cause he is the better boxer.
