i really cant believe thats a draw, seemed a clear win for ggg to me...but im not a boxing expert like adelaide bird :wenger:

It´s 10-2.

Canelo you could argue comfortably took the opening 3-4 rounds comfortably. After that you can argue the toss over a fair few round but the superior ring generalship earned the draw for Alverez. He earned extra points with the judges for neutralizing a monster.

Edit: I'm not justifying the scoring of that judge, I am saying a draw is about fair.

I agree, in terms of boxing ability i was far more impressed by Canelo tonight. The guy is an absolute bull. Doesn't need to be as heavy imo.

Just how much of his power does he lose though if he cuts weight?

Only watched the last 4 rounds and GGG was more aggressive but last two rounds Canelo looked liked he was hitting more power shots. I'm not that clued up on how boxing's scored but based on those last 4 rounds a draw doesn't seem that far fetched, but obviously a lot of people had GGG winning most of the earlier rounds that I didn't watch.

So a rematch...

Question is, GGG's much vaunted power...while he didn't 'hurt' Canelo, it was obvious even taking into account his counterpunching style...Canelo was fearful of GGG and didnt press his early advantage.

But, maybe he fights with more conviction the next time around...

GGG though...wow

A draw isn't fair. Alvarez lost the fight. 8-4.

118-110 :lol::lol: come the feck on, that judge should be in jail

think draw isn't far-fetched but that judge...

Adelaide Byrd should never ref again. A complete farce.

That´s what people been saying about her for 20 years or longer. She´ll be hidden on a few undercards and in 12 months she´s back to business, handing in her scorecard before a big fight before it starts. That´s how boxing works. In Europe they usually have two European judges for the home fighter, who love technical boxing and one alibi judge from (South )America for the challenger, who loves workrate/aggression. You can basically call the SD before the fight has even started.

Doesn't matter though because he ain't knocking out GGG so might as well focus on outboxing him via scorecard (legitimately this time).

9 times out of 10 the judges score favourably for the aggressor. Not one of the 3 judges took that approach to scoring this fight, as GGG was easily on top for 8 of those round. Canelo didn't get rocked, but he invited the pressure and that's normally a HUGE no no, particularly with Dave Morretti. He nearly always gives rounds to the aggressor when it's that close in punch numbers.

I think the best thing to do is accept that so long as neither fighter beat the shit out of the other, this fight was destined to be a draw before the bell rang. There's just no way that something shady didn't go on.

I'm GGG's fan, I thought he got beat in his last fight against Jacobs and this fight he definitely won. Two wrong decisions in last two fights for him. Boxing is fecked. We need VAR big time!

Nah, it was closer than it looked and I think some are giving GGG points just for coming forward, whereas Canelo was still at certain points winning rounds on the back foot.

Stats (scroll right)

See that about tells the story of the fight I saw, the smarter more educated work came from Alvarez.

There will be those that point to the punching stats but it's similar in many ways to a team winning a football match whilst having 40% possession.

GGG won most of his rounds clearly, Canelo just edged his, but i had it 6-6 too

Apart from his chin i don't see what was so wow about him tonight. He looked robotic at times. Being natural at the weight the stamina is a gimme, but he couldn't hurt Canelo either and looked inferior technically throughout.

He really didn't

What's so smart and educated about getting out thrown and outlanded by an overwhelming margin over 12 rounds ?

It wasn't closer than it looked. It looked exactly as it looked. GGG won and it wasn't close.

There won't be an immediate re-match. If that was the case they would have gave the win to Canelo. Golden Boy will drag out the re-match hoping that another 6 months to 1 year will see GGG slow down a bit more.

The judge who gave it 118 - 110 to Canelo should be struck off.

GGG is a bit of a brawler, whereas Canelo is smooth, but I wouldn't say he was technically inferior throughout.

And despite his come at you style playing right into Canelo's style...he didnt get that ragged or wild.

You aren't looking at the PCT. Throwing less but landing at a higher percentage generally means your work was more educated especially over the course of that fight. Stats wise there clearly isn't a chasm between the two fighters.

Canelos best was better than GGGs best for me. Better movement, defence, work to the body, creating angles and punch selection. I don't like GGGs straight line style and tonight he brought none of his usual tricks like switch hitting etc.

GGG didn't have to do anything, he felt canelos power and just thought feck it, another fighter I can just walk through their punches.

GGG set lots of traps tonight with his footwork, canelo smart enough to not fall for them. Neither really dazzled technically to be honest, but canelo certainly didn't look like more of a boxer than GGG
