The RedCafe Boxing Thread

Looking forward more to Whyte v Chisora than Joshua this weekend. I expect an easy win for Joshua even if Molina is good at taking a lot of punches, towards the latter rounds, he will effectively be a punch bag until a KO or stoppage.

I would love to see the Loma v Rigo fight happen ASAP. Rigo has showed signs of decline so it would be good for him to get his massive fight before it's too late. He looked uninterested in his last few fights even getting dropped numerous times, and his lifestyle doesn't quite favour an ageing boxer. He doesn't seem pro-active in trying to get the big fights, he pulled out of the Jazza Dickens fight, and then called out a bunch of fighters on twitter with nothing concrete confirmed.

If him and Loma were to fight, it would be a great tactical battle, it's a difficult one to call as well, but I think Loma would shade it just.

Also GGG v Canelo is another fight that needs to happen. It would be a boxing slugfest, I could see both going toe-to-toe with each other and a KO would definitely happen, I think GGG shades it just but hopefully Canelo doesn't delay the fight to wait for GGG to decline. Jacobs is up next for him, and should be a GGG win but Jacobs is a good opponent and a win will enhance GGG's CV.

Another fight is Khan v Brook. I would love Brook to finish his career and finally put an end to the feud. Brook is the better boxer IMO, with Khan being the bigger name somehow.

These 2 are doing a good job selling this card a bit more really. Personally I can't be arsed with the whole Joshua fighting another over the hill fighter/never has been. It's boring and tedious. I know he's inexperienced but they put him in the position of a world champion so he should be fighting big names. Don't want him fighting them names don't give him a title.

The Whyte vs. Chisora fight will be shite unless there's an early knockout really but at least there's some interest in it. If it ends early I'd back Whyte, the further it goes I think Chisora will win.

Sky sports keep popping up on my news feed showing Joshua's previous fights, there has not been one that is a close contest he needs a real fight! This one on Saturday again is it really a test for Joshua? Not in my book.

Whyte vs Chisora is the reason to watch that card, it may all be fake build up but it's a good match up.

I think the interest in it for me is basically it's the only close matched fight on the card.

There's plenty of good fighters on this card worth watching but it's all just 1 sided fights really on paper. Although Whyte and Chisora aren't the best boxers at least it's an even contest.

Chisora just threw a table at Whyte at their press conference. Love that everyone and AJ have basically said, this is the main event people want to see.

These press conference "fights" are getting a bit silly. (Heavyweight) Boxing is a reality show nowadays, more than anything.

I think there's a legitimate dislike for each other there. Both of them have tendencies to be a bit mental outside of the ring and probably rub each other the wrong way. I agree the pantomime stuff can sometimes get tedious but equally I don't always think it's fake. For example I seriously doubt this or any of the other stuff in the Gloves are Off stuff was set up.

For the kind of build up, I now fully expect Chisora and Whyte to be a slow boring cuddle fest.

It will be a shite fight, Chisora hasn't thrown a knockout punch in years and Whyte hasn't looked that impressive except for a few rounds vs. Joshua. The build up is fun though and the card does need it considering every other fight on it is a mismatch. Quigg vs. some nobody isn't selling any tickets.

I'm off out to watch it with most of my mates who are all huge Joshua fans. Absolutely over the moon that Chisora and Whyte have made the build up and hype much more entertaining for what otherwise would have been shit build up just to see Joshua finish another average fighter while having to listen to all of my mates tell me how he's incredible when he wins. Whether the fight itself delivers or not, the pre-fight stuff has me hyped to watch it much more than the main event.

Its a big deal here in NZ but I get the impression its not really that important in the rest of the world.

He has been talked up a bit in the UK. I think mainly cos he's a young heavyweight and people want him to fight Joshua. It's on Box Nation over here. The time diference probably doesn't help though. 10 in the morning on a Saturday is bit early for boxing for some probably!

Not sure if worth starting a new thread over it but anyone going to watch Badr Hari vs Rico Verhoeven?

It's impossible to explain, because most people aren't Dutch and they danm sure don't care about kickboxing. But if you liked the K1, you'd be hyped up for for this for weeks. If you're Dutch and know about the history of Badr, who's both one of the most talented fighters and public enemy #1, you'd be hyped up for months.

Kickboxing is dead, but Rico is a great champ and representative of the sport. It's like the ultimate good vs. evil for real, this fight wasn't even possible to take place in the Netherlands for political reasons. Easily our biggest fight this century, as a matter of fact I've heard older people saying the hype wasn't this big over here in the Ali days.

Put some money on Badr, because of the odds. In reality it's as perfect a 50-50 as you will ever see, Badr has more talent but he's been in jail and hardly has fought for the last years, while Rico is the perfect professional in the best form of his life. 114.5 kg vs 116. Badr might have a meltdown. Rico could lose all respect despite this not even being an official title fight yet. Can't wait for tonight.

Thought a draw was fair.

Full fight here for anyone that missed it...

What happens to the title from the Parker Ruiz fight?

Also, my predictions for tonight from the betting thread:

AJ - KO 5-8
Taylor - KO
Smith - KO 1-3
Quigg - Decision
Whyte - Decision

£10 returns £526 for anyone that cares about that side.

Is Badr Hari the one Ronaldo was shagging? Allegedly.

Yep, though my guess would be it was more like a narcissistic bromance.

By the way they raided Badr's house a couple of years ago and found a whole PED farmacy, and he's been linked to organized crime for years, apparently that business is even more lucrative than the coke game. So the conspirationists see another explanation for why Ronaldo was so desperate to fly to out to see him week in week out.

I'd be nervous about Chisora having it in him to go 12.

Yeah true, one thing I'd say though is if it does go to decision I don't know if Whyte has the ability to beat Chisora on points. I think Chisora is the much better boxer. Just way past his peak.

Any know the ring times?

Sky Bet has it as follows and is usually closest out of all of them:

Marcus Morrison 5pm
Conor Benn 5:30pm
Ortiz vs Allan 6pm
Burton vs. Buglioni 6:45pm
Callum Smith vs. Luke Blackledge 7:45
Yafai vs. Concepion 8:30
Quigg vs. Cayetano 9
Tayloe vs. Obenauf 9:30
Chisora vs. Whyte 9:45
Joshua vs. Molina 11pm

Obviously some will go back cos of fights going longer etc.

Nice one mate, thanks.

Not nervous cause it was just a punt for a bit of fun but I hear what you are saying.

The only person to ever KO Chisora has been Haye. You could count the Fury loss as a KO but he retired in that fight.

I guess Chisora's age is a factor but Whyte went 12 rounds with Allen and 10 with Lewison who aren't at a high level.

We shall see!

I love how underwhelming Ortiz hasbeen in this fight and the one vs. Malik Scott and Sky's excuse is basically that his opponent didn't stand still and get the shit kicked out of him.
