The RedCafe Boxing Thread

It still just screams "I'm gonna outdo your silly loss" to me......I'd favour Brook more than Khan of doing anything, even if the opponent is bigger and stronger and it's an actual two weight jump, but still.

I'm just glad to see a middleweight title fight.....at middleweight. Khan-Canelo was a joke.

Yeah it's refreshing to see with the Canelo stuff and fair fecks to Brook for taking it. I do agree with your sentiment though and echoed it a while ago. He probably knows he'll lose but it's a ready made excuse. Look at the Sky adverts at the moment "most feared man" in boxing etc....they're almost saying Brook will lose!

Biggest fight in the UK in a long time and I'm in Vegas for it

Worse places to watch the boxing mate! If it's any consolation I'm probably watching it in some shite pub in Manchester...if not at the O2 I'd rather be at the MGM I reckon.

I think GGG will box behind his jab for the first few rounds, drop him with a body shot around round 5, and then get the ref stoppage in the mid-to-late rounds. Brook will land some nice single shots (mainly straight rights) from time to time.

Weekend on at work for me - Feck!

I like Brook but i think he's got his hands full with GGG. Not only is he facing a formidable opponent but there is also the weight to take into account too. Know one knows how carrying the extra weight will affect him. You can whip yourself into shape and give it all the spiel about feeling stronger than ever but moving around in a fight situation carrying the extra bulk will be totally different.

I just don't see how he can avoid Golovkin for long enough to put himself in a position to win. I expect he'll have some success early on but once GGG has had a look and starts to cut the ring off it's all downhill from then on. He'll touch him with little shots to line up the power punches.

If Brook goes the distance i'll be amazed.

Yeah, pretty much this. They say Brook is unlikely to fight at 147 again, but even if he is more comfortable at middleweight he is fighting the most brutal fighter in the game right now. This is a guy who knocks out guys whilst recovering from a punch himself! Like you say when GGG cuts off that ring and starts to home in on you, it's the start of the end. This guy doesn't waste a punch. That combined with the ferocity of his punches pretty much makes him unbeatable at the moment.

I don't read too much into it as it's obvious they will hold something back but watching the open workouts today Golovkin looks so heavy handed and clinical in his movements and punch economy. Top, top fighter.

This fight isn't going further than 4 rounds.

There's absolutely no way a newbie at Middleweight lasts more than 4 rounds. This is going to be an early stoppage. Brook went life and death with Carson Jones FFS.

That was 4 years ago in fairness. Unfair to judge him on 1 performance, people have off nights.

I do agree I think GGG will win it but I think Brook is a huge welterweight and could be a decent enough middleweight really. Just not on GGG level.

I wouldn't bet on this ending early. I'm pretty sure Golovkin will box behind his jab for the first few rounds.

I guess so, we'll find out on the night.

People slate GGG for having a weak resume, but Kell's is similar, if not worse. The only 'name' he has on there is Shawn Porter.

I agree it's a mismatch, eventually GGG's power will tell - just depends when. I predict the fourth round.

It will be a miracle if KB sees the twelfth round.

Even though he's a big welterweight, I can see KB dropping down back to WW after this fight for a domestic dust-up with Amir Khan.

Agree with the CVs, both are hardly hugely impressive really. If anything Brook does have the biggest win over the 2 of them with the Porter fight. Even though Brook is coming up 2 weights this is probably GGG's biggest test really.

Apparently there's absolutely no chance he'll fight at 147 again. We'll see.

Hopefully Brook goes back down to WW after this, and fights someone of prominence. Vargas, Pac, Thurman etc or make the fight with Khan happen. Both will be coming off the back of a big loss to massive names, and will want to prove themselves in their correct division. The problem was always over the split with Khan wanting 80-20% which was fair enough when comparing their resumes, but now Brook is fighting the best p4p fighter then 50-50% should be on the cards. Be the biggest UK fight in a long time.

I'm gunna have a look at a 6th round stoppage for GGG. Seems the most likely result to me.

rofl Amir Khan wanted an 80-20 split? How scared of losing to Brook is he exactly? I mean, I know it's a near career ender for him so it's natural for him to put shit out there that's going to make it impossible to get made.

Brook will be the last fight Khan probably does. Thus why he's doing whatever not to do it, he's hardly confident in his own abilities to beat him, which is kinda odd. I wouldn't exactly make Brook some lopsided favourite going in, I'd barely make him a favourite, and that's before him going to a bigger weight and having to drop back down....hmm

Khan think he's the A game, and that he's a massive fighter just because he's fought some big names and ultimately lost the majority. They have sparred before, and both have differing views on who was the better fighter.

I think Brook wins vs Khan, technically he's an excellent fighter, not massively powerful but has great timing and movement.

It's no way 80-20 split but Khan does have a legitimate argument for being the bigger boxer, Brook struggles to sell out his home town and until this GGG fight he was putting on ridiculously shit title defences where as Khan was in America fighting decent, or at least "bigger", names. Khan also did get pretty fecked over by Mayweather as well (which he reminds everyone of.)

The cynic in me says this is a clever tactic by Hearn/Brook. It genuinely is a nothing to lose fight, he's fighting "the most feared boxer in the world" and if he loses Hearn will be straight out to remind us of that, despite him dismissing GGG only yesterday of fighting nobodies. It's 2 decent styles of boxing and should be entertaining for however long it lasts, either way I don't think it goes to the judges though. If people fancy Brook to do anything, be it a knockdown or a win there is very good odds on all the betting websites for it by the way. I think a knockdown is a possibility to be honest with how they both fight.

I just can't see Brook winning this at all. Looks good at the weight though, just seen the weigh in.

As soon as golovkin lands a body shot brook is going to realize what a mistake he's made here.

Been a lot of rumours that GGG has been ill and still is. Hearn, Nelson and a few others commented how he looked drawn in the face yesterday and that he was sweating profusely.

1.5 lbs is quite a lot inside.

He always seems calm in his demeanour

Sad to hear that Bobby Chacon has died of "boxers dementia".
When I was first interested in the sport he was one of the tough as teak Latino llittle fellas who fought everyone and it would take a sledgehammer to deter them.
Lost a few but beat many big names in his time.

Will go over 6.5 rounds for imo tonight.

Reckon you're right, and there's probably decent odds on that somewhere.

I've always liked Brook. Like the rest of you, I've been critical with some of his fights since he won the title, but I'd never, ever expect him to fight GGG. There's absolutely no way he wins tonight.

Even money your choice over/under. Can't see Kell winning either but think it will be the latter rounds before GGG does him in.

Connor Benn looking good, but not much you can learn from such a short fight against an opponent who had 24 hours notice.
Fast hands though.

Edwards has been catching a couple of strong blows at the minute. His chin has held so far but for how long at this rate?
