The RedCafe Boxing Thread

MMA fans still banging this drum. The highest profile MMA fighters tried to piggyback off Floyd Mayweather's name to get attention, they can only dream of being in fights as big as was. MMA is great sport but boxing continues to sell out arenas the world over and Mayweather has been the highest earning sportsman in the world for a number of years now.

The heavyweight division has been trash for a long time now. I will give you that.

MMA is clearly rising at a time when Boxing is going down the toilet. At least UFC fighters don't use pillows to hit eachother.

Boxing is one of the oldest sports in the world

Mma one of the newest. The biggest fights in boxing will always be far bigger but mma is bigger now than all mid level boxing

Bad result for boxing my arse. It's change. Every sport needs it and the heavyweight division certainly did.

MMA is good when they stand and fight. Not so much when they roll around hugging each other.

What? Mayweather recently broke PPV record after PPV record. How can that happen if boxing is dying? You make no sense.

Precisely my point. Boxing can't generate that sort of enthusiasm outside of one off, once a decade type fights where as UFC delivers consistent quality on a weekly and monthly basis.

Depends if you enjoy the sweet science or street fighting brutallity.

I watched wonder Rousy get kicked in the face the other week and found it quite wrong on a few levels. Maybe I'm just getting old...

I am all for change, but Fury is a clown, you would not see any of the greats sing in the ring after a fight, where did he think he was on the set of a Rocky film.

Well...actually.

Admiteddly Roy was far removed from his prime but still.

it's the politics in boxing that ruins it. If there were fewer belts and less tactical avoidance of decent opponents, it would be far better.

Yeah but Floyd is the last of the last great generation of boxing. Who is boxing´s biggest star now? Canelo Alvarez? Poor Mexican boxing is in a worse state than English football.

To be honest, he's just become heavyweight champion of the world - he can do whatever the feck he wants.

Who cares, really? The division needed clearing out and this is the start.

Better must come along at the top level.

Just depends if you like the sport or not

Sometimes the stuff on the ground can be just as good

I enjoy the sport, to a degree. When two wrestlers or Bjj people get in the ring and basically nullify each other for a whole match, it's not entertaining for me at all.

Yeah a change for the worse and won't save the heavy weight division.

The song was amazing, I was pissing myself at it to be honest. Not a bad voice either.

Feck me sideways. Anthony Joshua save this division please.

Most of Mayweather's fights in the past 10 years have been 1-2 million PPVs. Hatton - Mayweather did 2 million in the UK alone. That is more than the highest grossing MMA event ever. These are not 'one off' events.

The average person will be more familiar with the biggest names in UFC than boxers outside of the big names boxing at this moment

The averga person doesn´t know either. UFC is already delcining or why you think a freaking woman was their biggest star for the last two years.
