I received a lot of calls and emails over the absence of one particular name from the tournament, undefeated IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute. I was personally told by two parties that are heavily involved in the tournament negotiations that Bute's team turned down the offer to be part of the tournament. One source claimed that Bute's team refused to agree to the round robin format.
No way in hell does he get down to 140 pounds healthily, dunno what he's thinking. Christ, I thought De La Hoya looked a bit of a corpse when he fought Pac but if it's even possible for Mosley to make 140 he'll look 10 times worse.“There is unfinished business to take care of. I have never fought at junior welterweight, but I’m ready to fight at 140 now. I am coming after Pacquiao’s belt.
This is the fight the fans want and I’m prepared to give it to them. It’s up to Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao to stop running from me and step up to the challenge. Let’s meet in the ring at 140.
I want to reclaim the title of best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. First Pacquiao, then Mayweather — I’m ready to put all of the naysayers to rest.“
He stated before the fight that if he lost, he would retire. He now says he is holding off on making a decision. There is really no need to, in my opinion. Time to hang 'em up, Enzo.I see Enzo Mac lost again, time up for him?
Former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli has announced his retirement from the sport of boxing. Macca has lost three of his last four fights by knockout. last Saturday night in Manchester, he was stopped in three rounds by undefeated Denis Lebedev. He was also stopped by Ola Afolabi in March and was crushed in two rounds by David Haye last year.
Macca promised to retire if he tasted defeat last Saturday. He showed nothing and was battered for three rounds.
"That's it, there was nothing there on Saturday, that wasn't me," Macca said. "Take nothing away from Lebedev, he was a strong fighter, but everyone who has seen me and knows me will recognise that two years ago this kid wouldn't have gone two rounds with me. There was just nothing there and I am gutted."
Enzo Maccarinelli has rubbished reports linking him with a premature retirement. The Welshman said he was 'done' in the immediate aftermath of his third-round loss to Denis Lebedev, only to then tell BBC Wales, and BoxingScene.com, that he is thinking about his next step, and that he will not rush into a hasty decision.
“No, I'm not retiring,” claimed Enzo when speaking to the Beeb. Enzo also told BoxingScene that he had spoken in haste immediately after the Lebedev contest.
LAS VEGAS, NEV. – BOB ARUM, CEO of Top Rank, announced today that the mega-fight between boxing’s No. 1 pound-for-pound king and the reigning Boxing Writers Association of America’s (BWAA) Fighter of the Year, MANNY “PacMan” PACQUIAO, and the pride of Puerto Rico and three-time world champion MIGUEL COTTO is official.
“Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto have reached an agreement to fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday, November 14,” said Arum. The fight will be seen live on HBO Pay-Per-View. Top Rank is working on a major media tour to start right after Labor Day. Further details will be announced as we get closer to kicking off the tour.”
Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KOs), of General Santos City, Philippines, has won six world titles in as many different weight divisions ranging from 112 to 140 pounds. His performance in 2008 was described as “Henry Armstrongesque,” winning world titles at 130 and 135 pounds with victories over Juan Manuel Marquez and David Diaz, respectively, and knocking out and retiring Oscar De La Hoya at 147 pounds to finish the trifecta. This year, he picked up where he left off last year – winning another world title in a new weight division -- dealing defending junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatton a one-punch second-round knockout on May 2.
Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs), from Caguas, Puerto Rico, has sold more tickets at Madison Square Garden in this millennium than any other fighter. He has held a world title every year since 2004. Puerto Rico’s most exciting fighter, Cotto held the World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight crown from 2004-2006, successfully defending it six times before vacating it to capture the World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight title at the end of 2006, a title he held for nearly as long. He won his second welterweight title in February this year, knocking out Michael Jennings in the fifth round at Madison Square Garden to become the WBO welterweight champion. Notable scalps on Cotto’s belt include Sugar Shane Mosley, Zab Judah, Joshua Clottey, Pauli Malinaggi, and Demarcus Corley.
Former cruiserweight champion David Haye has revealed that he signed the contract to fight the seven-foot WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev on November 7 in Germany. Haye was close to a deal to face WBC champion Vitali Klitschko on September 12 in Frankfurt, Germany. The venue and television was secured but Haye had other plans and withdrew from the Klitschko deal. Sky Box Office will televise the fight with Valuev in the UK.
"I have a big grin on my face. I have finally signed a contract to fight Valuev on November 7. All that needs to be confirmed is the site. But I feel wherever the bout takes place it will be a complete sell-out and I just can't wait to start training again," Haye said.
Haye would have fought younger brother Wladimir Klitschko for the WBO/IBF titles in June, but withdrew with a back injury. Haye claims to have turned down the deal with Vitali over the amount of options that Klitschko's promotional company, K2, was demanding. According to numerous reports, the deal to fight Klitschko would have given K2 several future fight options on Haye. As per the deal, K2 would also control the opponents and the dates of Haye's next few fights.
"The reality was that I would not have been in control of my own destiny for quite a long while if I had signed the contract the Klitschko management group were putting in front of me. Basically they would have been able to tell me when and who I fight for quite a while to come. This way, when I beat Valuev later this year I will again be in control of my own destiny," Haye said.
He has never been down. Then again, who has he fought?I'm finding the prospect of Haye-Valuev strangely interesting. Valuev is an oaf but he uses his size and what limited skills he does have quite well. It would be a pretty big statement if Haye was to knock him out as he's tough and durable, and there's big enough question marks over Haye's chin that you can't rule out Valuev hurting him either. Nevertheless, I'll pick Haye by TKO. Possibly a referee or corner stoppage, as Valuev very rarely if ever (??) suffers knockdowns. The oaf.

Barrett rocked Valueless in the first when they fought, and he is a gatekeeper at best. Hopefully, the fight resembles Barrett/Fields.Haye will be the most dangerous puncher he's faced by some distance to be fair.
